everything requires registration/payment, and the payments are ridiculous... $15 for one article... $75 for access for ONE day.

:rant:

maybe this should be in the rant section, or people could use it to suggest alternatives or talk about how they do their research, etc.

Usually libraries at universities pay for numerous subscriptions to online journals, so when I was a student I'd always just make sure to do my research there and not from home.

Google Scholar merely finds the article. It's the journal that's charging that.

$15 per article is actually a fairly standard rate across all publishers

coffeezombie describes the basic reason why many high-end start-ups are located near university campuses ... (e.g. biotech)

Yep, I've found Google Scholar to be completely useless. I just login to my library's online database which has the likes of Academic Search Premier, etc. Tons of articles and all of them are free :)
