Mexico May Allow Some Cocaine, Heroin Use (http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20060429/ap_on_re_la_am_ca/mexico_drugs;_ylt=Ap79Ph.Wd7emlN2lsLnR5KVvaA8F;_ylu=X3oDMTA5aHJvMDdwBHNlYwN5bmNhdA--)
Police would no longer bother with possession of up to 25 milligrams of heroin, 5 grams of marijuana (about one-fifth of an ounce, or about four joints), or 0.5 grams of cocaine — the equivalent of about 4 "lines," or half the standard street-sale quantity.
Looks like it is time to swim across the Rio and become a day laborer!
The measure appeared to surprise U.S. officials. State Department spokeswoman Janelle Hironimus said the department was trying to get "more information" about it. One U.S. diplomat, who requested anonymity because he was not authorized to speak publicly, said "we're still studying the legislation, but any effort to decriminalize illegal drugs would not be helpful."

Sounds like they are just trying to increase their tourism revenues.

Jails getting crowded. . . . .
Since I think drugs should be decriminalized, I'm all for it.

Cool. And since posession with intent to sell is still a crime, it looks like they're actually going after criminals instead of addicts.

Yet another foreign country implicitly says "Fuck you, Yanqui." Hee.
When George Bush sez "My way or the highway," funny how many are taking the highway.

Was enforcement ever there?
This can only come as a loss to the Mexican police. Who is going to bribe them now that it is legal? Huh? You think a policeman's salary feeds the kids.

thats exactly what this is. just another country giving Bush the finger. really, they did it just to undermine his efforts on the immigration problem.

Well they couldnt raise the interest rate to support the peso so this might be a good alternative :)
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mexican_peso (i like the peso :) )
The peso is the currency of Mexico. The Mexican peso was the official currency for much of North America until the United States dollar began to be issued in 1785. (!!!)

Awesome. I'm glad to hear it.

The real genius of this bill is that if someone laces your cocaine with something worse (pcp) then you can report them to the police "this guy sold me cocaine with pcp in it" and that guy gets arrested.

I guess now we get to see if mexican society falls appart because of all of the new users of drugs that are going to be created... yea right. Its definately a fuck you in regards to the US wanting to tighten immigration laws. I say the US should follow suit.
