I spent 4 days in Goeteborg and then 3 days in Stockholm. But then I had friends in Goeteborg and I wouldn't imagine it would've been that exciting if I hadn't stayed with them. Stockholm is cool though. You should spend at least a day or two there. Otherwise, pray for good weather and enjoy the scenery.
The first thing I'd do is leave Sweden.

Why? They have the most generous welfare system in Europe, given your present situation it may prove beneficial to stay there...

I am sure there are interesting things to do in Sweden, though I am also pretty sure that asking a internet forum full of North Americans is probably not the way to go about finding out.

who else would you have me ask?
who else would you have me ask?I am pretty sure there will be websites that are specifically about what to do when visiting Sweden. In fact, I am pretty sure tha Sweden will have an Tourism Board of some kind or another, that will deal with these exact kind of questions.

A good friend of mine and his wife live in Sweden. They would be very happy to see me and would do their best to show me a good time. So I'd hang out with them.

My grandfather was 100% Swede- I'd like to see my ancestral homeland one day.
I'd start with meatballs. Lots and lots of meatballs. Then I'd crash test my Volvo rental car just to see how safe it really is. Bork! bork! bork!

Are you going to Sweden or am I?
If it's me, I'd have a blast. I've got loads of family history there. I'd visit a number of manor houses/palaces that once belonged to my family and at least one that still does and the Riddarhuset and hopefully see some of my distant relations, a few of whom I've "met" through email. I'm hoping to do this in the next few years.
If it's you, no idea.

Yeah, but its nearly summer over there and its still cold!
(Thursday's maximum for Stockholm = 13°C)
We get that sort of weather in winter.

Well, that depends really. If you love fjords and mountains, then yes, Denmark is dead boring. Else Denmark beats the crap out of Norway.
Stockhold is a must see in Sweeden, but appart from that, I'm not sure what I'd need to see over there. :) Well, there are some cool castle ruins etc scattered about the country, those might be worth a visit, but... hm... I guess it all depends on what you prefer. I could go to Morocco and be happy without seeing anything special, simply because I love to experience new atmospheres, but sweeden... it's a bit too everyday for me as it resembles norway too much.

Stockholm is definitely one of the most beautiful cities I've ever been to. So I would say spend at least 2 days in Stockholm, visit the museums, and visit the various castles around there. Ice hotel and dog-sledding in Kiruna I heard is fun...but I'm not sure if they still have it at this time of year, it's a winter thing. Goteborg (gothenburg) was kinda boring since I didn't know anyone there. I liked southern Sweden (cities of Lund and Malmo) but it's pretty far from Stockholm. Train will get you there in I think 6 hours though. Cool thing is if you're in Malmo you can take the train across the cool bridge into Copenhagen, Denmark in an hour. :)

That's great advice; I'll definitely be visiting as many castles as I can. Until 03 I'd never been above the Mason-Dixon line so Sweden is a bit out of the everyday for me.

Seriously, I would try to nail a stereotypically hot Swedish girl, or two...that would make a story for a lifetime. "I only had four days, but..." That would be way more memorable than some fucking ice castle. Everything to do there is too expensive anyway.
