hm... some mean virtual presence just ripped my post to nothing after clicking submit...
probably my fault...so I'll try again but not without saving it somewhere beforehand

I was wondering whether any of you ever read/ played "the Cube"?

What did you think of it? Bogus or weird truth?

I remember being pretty amazed at the results

For those of you who've never heard of it: there ist an online version at

http://personal.ansir.com/cube.htm

give it some thought (you should know how to do that after all ;) ). the more detailed your imagined picture the more fun

Contains spoilers. Do not read before taking the test!

There are some parts of the cube that I don't think are true, that those people just sort of guessed at. For example, my cube was on the ground, so I was said to be "down-to-earth/practical/commonsensical/reality-oriented/concerned with the tangible." Well, I'm no S, but it just seemed sort of obvious that the cube was on the ground. And for clear glass, it said, "clear-minded/candid/self-revealing/realistic/fragile." What do they mean by self-revealing, fragile or clear-minded? It seems that they just said, "Hmm, what is glass like? Ooh, I know, it's transparent!" and wrote down some adjectives. There were some other parts that were wonderfully true, though. My cube was compartmentalized like a Rubik's cube, and like a Rubik's cube I think there was some pattern, some puzzle involved. For a Rubik's cube, the description said, "intricate/adaptable/ingenious/clever/challenging/liking to outwit others." That, of course, was dead on.

The ladder didn't seem to work too well. Perhaps this is because I don't have that many close friends. Same goes for the horse - I don't have a lover at all. The storm was a little better, but not much. In my life, trouble is supposed to be, among other things, "irritating" (as opposed to non-irritating trouble?), "focused, acute" (WTF?), and "stressful" (see irritating). The storm was approaching, which means trouble will come in the future, so I can't assess any of the other adjectives for accuracy - the trouble hasn't happened yet! The same goes for the flowers (children).

No test that asks someone to imagine a cube and can't cope with being given a cardboard box will get my full confidence. :D
That said, I think being asked for the desert first threw my answers off a bit, since I was just recently living in one. I was thinking of things that fit the desert, first and foremost. Also, the association of a storm with 'trouble' just plain doesn't work for me. I love rain, particularly thunderstorms, but I'm not a crisivore or inclined to pay much attention to rumours.

Like every other test that sets a framework and asks one to free-associate within it, decent results depend on having a symbol set in common. That's rather hit and miss at the best of times.

That was... an interesting test. Accurate at some things, not accurate at others, but definitely a lot of fun.

I also imagined the cube on the ground, mainly because... uh, that's what cubes usually do? My cube was hollow, so I wouldn't mind telling everyone this test was utter crap. ;)

The horse thing got dead on, though. I wrote about a horse that was "technically free to go wherever it wants, because it has no visible physical bounds, but it stays there because an invisble emotional connection forces it to stay." The storm thing got right as well, there is a certain trouble I'm anticipating but not quite sure if it'll happen, and I wrote about it accordingly. Actually, after writing my description about the storm, I thought it could aply to my troublesome situation right now and kind of laughed at the similarities - before reading the results.

On the whole, I agree with Jkrs' comment about having a symbol set in common, but I had a lot of fun taking the test.

hmm, very interesting- I would say their interpretations are pretty much bogus. If the flowers were daisies your children were supposed to be blond... mine were multi-colored... maybe my children are all going to dye their hair?? (If I had any children that is.)

But, anyway- if you decipher the image yourself, without the help of their definitions- "what did it mean to you?" type of questions- then, maybe some meaning will come to the fore.

My cube was on the ground as well... hmm, what does it mean if I picked it up, looked at it, then let it fall back to the ground?

Having to describe the desert first was annoying, I explicitly stated that the desert was empty. Each time I had to describe something else, I had to revise by lame excuses like I didn't see it when I first looked around (the ladder) the horse and storm were easier.

If this was a literal and accurate test (which it isn't), I would be able to count on my non-existent lover to carry me into my troubles and flee as soon as we got there. I would cling to my, again non-existent, friends during the storm, and when the storm was over see my lover waiting for me at the bottom- then decide to go up the ladder and leave 'him'...

All I found of worth in this test, was that it put my imagination in action :D
The 'results' were... huh... too simplistic... (horse being your lover - did it ever occur to this guy there are also single people out here...? :P )

Miss Padfoot
20 Jul 2004, 02:47 AM
did it ever occur to this guy there are also single people out here...? Thank you Vagabond! And what if I don't want a lover? I doubt I'm supposed to defy the test by saying, "No, sorry, there's no ladder here after all. Next?" If the test was truly accurate, I would have done that :D

I loved doing that. I could use a similar brainstorming exercise once in a while. Like others mine wasn't accurate in every area. My horse was very much like NGenes. It was bare and free, and it came to the oasis to drink in a symbolic way. I don't know about it having anything to do with a lover, as the ladder didn't really make a lot of since either (if it is in fact my friends). When I think about the ladder I see a connection. People are rungs to elevation sometimes, but they aren't necessary (I could have climbed the palms around the oasis). My cube was the color of my eyes, so that was interesting. The cube was also at the bottom of the ladder in the oasis. I guess I can say that I've got a ladder to climb, to reach elevation. The exercise was a little too vague- any five objects and a setting can be used to accomplish the same- and it was leading you on. It was still fun though.

I kinda liked that test, and it was pretty accurate (and where it wasn't I just kind of filled in the blanks on my own)

The abridged version-
Cube: Massive, in the distance, made of worn red rock, solid, sitting on a ledge above the horizon

Ladder: "Halfway between me and the cube is an old wooden ladder, discarded and long forgotten. It is lying on the ground with no apparent purpose and has about ten rungs."

Horse: Wild, calm, standing proudly, beside the cube, bareback, splotchy redish brown and white with black highlights, one blue eye and one brown, "stares at me, stamping its hooves periodically as if it were impatiently waiting for me"

Storm: fills sky completely, "lightning and thunder run rampant," cube and horse are not affected by storm (defies the storm) ladder is swept away in the newly formed river "off to be strewn somewhere so someone else can puzzle at its reason"

Flowers: delicate, exotic, orange, few but brilliant, in the lee of the cube (protected from storm) horse is also protector of flowers but is not anxious over the storm.

Interpret that as you will, it's all pretty accurate.
I will say that I don't have a lover, but that horse is a pretty accurate discription of what I want in a lover.

Seems to make alot of sense. It was fun to lose my mind in thinking up my cube. Kinda freaky.

My cube-------------------------------------

Beautiful blue sky on a bright sunny day. The sand is soft and quiet cool considering it is a desert. The breeze is refreshing.
The cube is a small and about the size of a basketball. the cube is in front of me about 3 feet away. The make of it is a mystery for it is transparent and inside it has beautiful river and waterfalls apart of the forest. you can surely lose your mind staring into it long enough. It is floating about 4 feet in the air.

Beautiful

content

About a 100 meters away there is a ladder it is made of stone and has about 20 rungs. each stone floats with no support.

The horse is near me and it is a black stallion and it has no saddle. It is standing the occasionally moving his head seemly waiting for me.

A lighting storm is behind me with dark clouds and i can hear the rain from afar. Perhaps the horse is moving his head and waiting for me because he wants us to leave before it comes.

The patch of blue wildflowers are under the cube and seems that the cube has helped in causing them to grow. the horse is feeding off thier leaves.

This was fun!! :-) I'll grant you, not much merit test-wise, but fun nonetheless.

"Coyote Joe says: MOOOOOOO.

The Cube in the desert. About a mile tall. And right in front of my face. It is made of a popcorn-like substance. Green. Spongy and edible. Solid, and buried about a foot into the sand. It makes me a little nervous, but curious.

The ladder leads to the top of the popcorn-cube. It has MANY rungs.

There is a horse here, being horse-like. It is tall, with legs like stilts. Litererally. They are made of wood. The horse is standing under the ladder, which is bad luck. Its not wearing anything, and is a sort of dappled gray. (I'm rather curious how all this supposedly relates to my boyfriend?)

Uh oh! There is a sandstorm coming! The stilthorse gets scared and runs away from the cube, but bumps into the ladder! Ladder falls down.... crushing the many flowers below. The poppies cry out, but nought can stop the ladder!!!"

Also, I'm amused that the "storm" not only destroys my lover, but also my friends and my children.

Desert as far as the eye can see, slightly windwept yet devoid of wind at the moment. What looks like water ripples in the sand.
Dunes all around which are curved and majestic.
The sky is deep blue with the sun beating down overhead. The sand is yellow and plentiful

There is a cube, it is trasparent in colour. Almost crystal in look. It's a medium distance away, near an oasis with a few trees and deep blue water. It looks like it's made of a material almost like plastic. It's hollow and is sitting flat on the sand.
Peace, transparent, large, hollow, tranquility

There is a ladder leaning against the cube at an angle. It's made of wood and allows you to climb on top of the cube. It's approximately 12 rungs

There is a horse by the cube. It's just an ordinary horse and is a brown colour. It is standing by the side, but a little way away from the cube. It is drinking from the oasis and is wearing a bridle. A black bridle.

A violent storm, with dark clouds. It's a thunderstorm and it's not too far away , coming closer. The horse looks slightly worried and looks around, but the cube and ladder are not affected.

There are flowers. The are on the left of the cube, ladder and horse. They are directly in front of the line of the oncoming storm. There are a few, they are white and yellow and purple. They are daisys and pansies.

-Personally I just liked thinking of it. Though I would say there is a storm at a medium distance, which has been rumbling for a while in my life...

Very interesting test i really enjoyed it:

I see water in the distance, I am on the edge of the desert facing the atlantic ocean. I sit down and relax with a corona while appreciating the warm desert breeze on this mild october day.

I see a cube, It is red and floats just about a minor sanddune. It isnt very big, sizing about 2x2 feet and it spins very slowly. It feels grainly like the sand that I'm currently standing on and it appears to be solid. 5 words to describe it: Cold, Dark, Perfect, Surreal, and Beautiful.

From out of no where I see a wooden ladder standing straight up towards the sky. It appeared exactly opposite of the cube in relation to where I was currently standing. It was a fairly tall ladder, im guessing around 20-30ish feet tall.

It may be a mirage but there is a horse running off in the distance, it appears to be a mustang. It is white with brown splotches all over its body. It is an untamed horse.

The mild breeze picks up and I can see a storm coming from out over the ocean. It seems to be one of those minor storms where it is rainy while the sun is still shining, quite beautiful actually.

In the spots where the rain fell I start to see flowers budding. It is a spectacular view, one that I would remember for the rest of my life. Thousands of Yellow and White flowers (im not good with the naming of certain flowers) everywhere just sprouting out of the ground.

A vibrating blue sky which glows ever deeper shades of blue as it touches gently among the tops of the sand in the distance. Waves of warmth swimming from above down to the sand, the only thing which accompanies this scene. The sky is open, but there is a small darkened cloud in the distance growing every closer with temptations of rain coming nearer, but any onlooker being left in uncertainty as to where it may really end up.

Upon closer examination there is a transparent cube floating about 2 feet among the sand over a hill in the distance. It is 2x2 feet approximately, and it seems to be made of some semi-transparent substance of a light blue color. The texture is smooth and cold, in contrast to the swarming heat that surrounds it. It seems hallow as it is transparent, but also among close examination there appears to be some type of gas floating amidst inside of it which glides in spirals and smooth movements. It's floating flat in the air. It seems (1)lost, (2)misplaced, (3)lonely, it's (4)cool but not cold, in definite contrast to it's surroundings. The cube is (5)delicate.

A ladder sits about 5 feet from this cube, and ventures up into the sky, it seems almost never ending. As one would look up they would meet blinded by the Sun's rays before they were able to figure out where it leads. There are so many steps up this cast iron ladder that leaves it impossible to guess how many, but it's obvious there are easily over 100. It seems to be leading to space, perhaps another world.

An all black horse sits in the desert, right between the cube and ladder. It pants and seems tired. It's free of any restraint and seems to be waiting for someone or something to come along. This horse has a purpose, I believe it is a messenger, or a protector of the cube or ladder for some reason..

A sandstorm tornado very far in the distance over the hills, and completely unpredictable as to where it may go. It doesn't affect the cube, ladder, or horse yet, but it could possibly in the future. At the moment it is very far and unthreatening, but that could change very quickly if it decided to change course.

The flowers are in a circular pattern around the cube, they are yellow daisies, and they sit there almost as a sign of hope. There aren't too many, just a small patch surrounding this cube. Perhaps the horse is protecting the flowers too..

Haha, "If ladder descends into ground...Are going straight to hell." Well, if there are any psychologists taking notes on this site, here be my summary.

Cube: Hoovering & rotating, several feet above the ground, several feet wide, different 3D textures on each side, and different colors incl. blue, purple, red. About twice as distant as wide. I suppose divided by horizon.

Ladder: Basic, wood, approx 10 rungs, planted on ground & tilted toward cube, reaches midpoint but not touching

Horse: Black or dk. Brown, muscular & "handsome", unsaddled, beside cube, just chillin'.

Storm: Thunderstorm, far away, behind cube

Flowers: I thought I was in the desert watching this f'd up scenario, so I was standing among them (foreground?). Bright, muliticolored. I must have kids already, and they're important to me, but their mother has been very keen about keeping this secret.

My cube:
Massive, streaches in all directions up, left, right, sitting solidly in the sand. It is made of a metal-like substance, and is solid as a rock. It is oppresive and beautiful at the same time.
My ladder. It is rickity, made of wood, and streaches from the base of the cube, up out of site.
The horse. The hose is bridled, and sadled, both being made of plain leather. The horse is slightly anxious, and is fidgity as a horse can be. There is a dismounted rider standing next to the cube, who is in a terribly melancholic state in his hand is:
The flower. It is a single flower held in his hands. It is fragle and beautiful, for his departed lover.
The storm is above the cube and streaching in all directions. Although it is above the cube, there is a strange stillness to the air. Silent lightning flashes abound.
Anywho, thats as much as I have time to write down.

Pretty good analysis thingy. The responses were a pleasure to read also. I queried my wife and a houseguest with impresive results when compared to real life. My wife answered the same for the horse bit except I was a Clydsedale (Woot!). She actually answered Rubiks cube which was a documented answer. I cannot deny any of my results.

Solid black cube made of onyx, ever-so-slightly buried in the sand about ten feet ahead of me. Big, but managable enough to be moved with some serious human effort.

Aged but sturdy wooden ladder sticking straight up in the sand, two feet next to the cube. 8 feet tall.

White horse on the exact opposite side, also two feet away. Patiently waiting for whatever horses wait around for and unbridled/unsaddled.

Dark storm on the horizon, far away. Too far to tell what kind. The horse doesn't even notice it.

Five red roses two feet behind the cube strangely growing from the sand.

Interesting, like pretty much everybody else some of the parts were right, some close, and others way off.

Cube: Huge, black, unknown material, distant at first then I walked to it, almost cold to touch
Ladder: Same stuff as cube, half-buried at one corner, 43 rungs, good condition, looks recently used and discarded
Horse: a nightmare (they didn't think of that), sadled and bridled, eating only plant in site, not sure if I imagined mare or stalion or ghelding
Storm: huge thunderstorm in distance and approaching, leaves all wet but unscathed
Flowers: species i don't recognize, beautiful, dark red color

I'm weird. Of course, I had to bring in all kinds of unusual and mysterious elements. Here it is:

--------------------------

The scene is an endless expanse of sagebrush, punctuated occasionally by rugged mountains surrounded by gently sloping bajadas. The sun shines constantly in a clear, featureless blue sky. Although apparently lifeless, a careful observer will note the occasional animal. A lizard may scurry under a rock, or a nervous jackrabbit will hop away when it believes its hiding place has been discovered. The silence is deafening, but is broken occasionally by a gust of wind or by the cry of a distant eagle.

On the ground just a few feet away is a white, featureless cube sitting flat on the ground beneath a large sagebrush plant. I pick it up. It will fit easily in the palm of my hand, with some room to spare. The cube is made of some totally unfamiliar material, possibly otherworldly. It is apparently perfectly smooth. Whether it is solid or hollow is impossible to determine. This cube has a strong air of mystery about it; examining it closely, I get an overwhelming feeling that I am dealing with something exceedingly strange.

Next to the sagebrush plant where the cube was located is an old, dried-out wooden ladder with six rungs. In contrast to the cube, it is a perfectly ordinary ladder; it could have been discarded by one of the local ranchers or miners.

In the distance, barely visible on the horizon, is a horse - probably a wild mustang. It is a beautiful rich brown, with white blotches on its side and its face. Being totally wild, it is wearing nothing of human manufacture. The horse is standing serenely in a patch of yellow grass, lazily grazing.

Suddenly, an odd storm stirs up in the west and gradually moves towards me. It is not like any other storm I have ever seen; it consists of a black, circular cloud and it regularly discharges multicolored lightning. The horse runs from it, but frequently stops to watch it as if enthralled. As the storm begins, the cube begins to glow with a pale blue light, and as the storm moves closer, the glow becomes brighter and brighter, but the cube does not heat up at all. The old ladder stands as solidly as it probably has for ages, seemingly oblivious to the storm.

Next to the sagebrush where the cube and ladder are located, but many miles from the horse and the beginnings of the storm, a few wilted yellow flowers struggle out of the ground. They are the flowers of one of the dried-out desert grasses. As the storm approaches, they seem to open, expecting the gift of rain.

-----------------------------

Now, if the cube is me, then it is telling me that I am weird, otherworldly, and difficult to understand - perhaps partially correct. The ladder would indicate that I have very stable, and boring, friends and coworkers - again partially correct. The horse (my prospective lover) is distant, wild, and unreachable. Maybe this is supposed to tell me that I am a loner (which I am). I don't know quite what to make of the storm; I don't think the creators of the cube game imagined a magical storm which makes the cube glow. But perhaps this means that weird troubles spur me to action. The flowers are wilting and struggling (as one would expect in the desert), and that perhaps indicates that my projects are struggling (which is always the case).

This was a rather weird, but interesting exercise. At least it inspired me to write something mysterious.

(By the way, the "white featureless cube" idea came from the old Infocom text adventure game, "Spellbreaker". Anyone who is familiar with this game is at least as geeky as I am.

After the test It said I was the cube, I read the five adjectives I had written and proceded to have a good, strong, loud, laugh.

Smooth
Cool8O It seems to have short circuited and captured my aspirations instead.

Proceeds my story.

The winds blown patterns cascade across the expanse of white sands.
The sky a brillient luminescent blue. Air so lucid as to expound
crystal sight. As I walk I look at the Horizon, and know it will
always be there. My call to fufill.

Ahead I see an object one would think could not exist but in a dream.
It's perfectly mirrored surface making it seem as if it were not there
but space itself was twisting in some amazing way. It is now right
before me. The perfect shine it eminates suggests an unearthly metalic
feeling. I touch it with care and it seems solid. Something of such great mass
it seems would sink into the sand, but it does not, it simply waits
there.

Polished
Perfect
Reflecting
Smooth
Cool

Extending directly out of the sand but half a foot from the cube is a
ladder reaching straight up over the top of the cube. The ladder seems
to be made of the same metalic material as the cube, yet is a darker
black then I had ever experienced or thought possible. It seems to have near 25 rungs to reach over the cube.

Out of the distace runs a horse. The color of its coat seems a marrage of the colors between the ladder and cube, silver and black twisting about its silk like coat. It approches and comes to stand peacefuly next to me. It wears no saddle and seems to exude peace and
acceptance.

As if it had existed all along and had mearly by some trick of my
vision been hidden, a storm hung on the horizon. It seems of such great
omnius presence as to be able to wipe out existance itself. It seems
to be rapidly approching, but as it did the shine of the cube became
brighter and the ladder darker. The horse stood in a condifent
defiance.

Again my my congition seemingly clairified and I came to see a great
expanse of flowers forming a perfect circular pattern about the horse,
ladder, and cube. Yet as if respecting them, they kept a distance if a
few feet and did not come in contact with them, forming again a
perfect inner circal. The flowers seemed to be a perfect mix of Red
blue and yellow. They stood there in oasis, thousands of wildflowers.

May not be the most accurate test, but it sure was a lot of fun to take. Thanks for the link. As for everyone's descriptions, there awesome, arent we the imaginitive group...

The desert is warm, welcoming. The sand cascades down the hills in small waves. I run to the top. The veiw is breathtaking. It overlooks a valley of desert broken by a salty lake on one side and beautiful mountains on the other. The bright blue sky, dotted with fluffy white clouds, contrasts sharply with the red sand and perfectly compliments the blue lake. There is a black cube just at my feet. It looks as if it is made of glass but not transparent. It has no lid, and therefore i cannot tell if it is hollow. I pick it up. It is cold to the touch, but extremly light. Solid construction puts my fears of it breaking due to its light weight out of my head.

A ladder is very far away. It is wooden with a rustic quality. There are about 20 rungs. I am holding the cube, while the ladder is many sand dunes over.

A black clysdale is running towards me, but still a few hundred yards away. The majestic horse has no bridle or saddle to hold it back. It is free.

A storm is blowing in from the lake. I only notice it after the horse runs away. The horse was scared by the storm. I carry the cube and chase after the horse, but it is no use the horse is already to far away. The storm is a noxious black with violet lightning shooting out from all directions. I am very scared.

As I run toward the horse and away from the storm i notice one solitary yellow flower. Its vibrant green leaves and stunning yellow petals contrast so sharply with the sorrounding red desert that I forget all about the storm, the ladder, the horse, and even the cube for a few moments. I cry because of how beautiful this flower is. I want to take it with me to protect it from the storm but know i cannot take it without killing it. I am forced to leave it in hopes it can withstand the storm. I know it is futile, but if the flower is to die I am not going to be the one to do it.

What was the desert a symbol of? Our reality? The world we imagine we live in?
The cube, ladder and storm descriptions were nice, but the flower and horse did not. (Mabye thats cuz i dont plan on having kids...and am almost always single...)

The desert horizon line stetches out as far as the eye can see , the dry shifting sands move beneath my feet. The desert scene also includes a bright sun high in the sky and a series of buildings out in the distance which look alien like in nature.

cube

The cube is floating mid air near the buildings and is about 20 feet from me and is about 10 feet by 10 feet , it is made of a kind of organic electrical energy and shifts colour from black to white, the textures of the cube are constantly shifting and moving around to form new patterns, the cube is hollow but is not sitting on the sand it is floating

Abstract (mood)
attractive (physical)
interesting(mood)
dreamy(mood)
complex(mood)

ladder

The ladder is about 3 metres tall and is made of shining silver metal which has the effect of making the sun in the desert shine off the surface, the ladder is rested next to the cube and has approximentaley 12 rungs

horse

the horse has a dull brownish coat and is quite small for a horse, the horse is near me about 5 feet away from me and is naying a looking around the area, looking like it waiting to go somewhere or is bored. It is wearing a saddle but i don't know what kind

storm

I can see a storm is coming over the horizon of the desert , the people living in the buildings in the distance all go inside their houses , the storm has a lot of dark grey clouds and thunder and lighting has started to occur, the cube stays as it is and so does the ladder but the horse is scared and starts to look uncormfatable and nays in distress.

Flowers
The flowers are closest to the ladder on a patch of land in the desert , there is a batch of flowers os there is a many there colors are red, yellow, purple and white. They are roses

Ok according to the interpretation i am

for the cube (self portrait)

floating - optimistic/ idealistic/ spiritual/ living in ideas or fantasy/ impractical/ "above it all

hollow -spacious/ receptive/ light-hearted/ objective/ protective

black - stylish/ stark/ mysterious/ guarded/ self-contained/ drawn to the dark side

distant protective of your "space"/ independent/ taking the long view/ seeing things in perspective/ abstract

For the ladder (friends /coworkers)

steel - are steadfastly reliable/ made strong by stress/ indestructible/ straightforward/ streamlined/ practical/ unadorned

lying down - are relaxed/ casual companions in leisure/ not much use (unless in emergency)/ down and out/ deadbeats/ dead

different material from CUBE - are unlike you

The horse (lover.life partner)
Far away from cube - in another city/country/ indifferent/ very independent/ in his/her own world/ a low priority for you/ on the way out of your life

brown warm/ earthy/ sensual/ordinary, unpretentious/ brunet(te)/ African-American/ Hispanic

The storm (trouble)

frightening horse - upsetting your lover
Lightning - shocking/ galvanizing/ giving you a jolt/ illuminating/ enlightening
thunder - quarrels/ just sound and fury/ threatening/ rumored
horizon on the - in the distant future/ other people's/ on the evening news
black clouds -worries/ threatening but not actual

Flowers (children, what I create)

many flowers - many kids/ your life's work/ other people's
roses - passionately loved/ children of passionate love
near ladder - your best friends/ your friends' kids/ nieces, nephews
garden near cube - your own/ kept safe/ carefully cultivated

This is actually preety accurate for the most part

my friend gave me a similar test, however, instead he had me draw the horizon, the horse, the ladder, the cube, the storm and a door, on paper, in a box, and then he interpreted it. It was much more moving

This was a lot of fun. I couldn't be bothered to analyse my results based on the arbitrary standards they set out, but... fun.

The last compact ripples in the shallow dune give way to a rocky wash splashed in the dim light of the newly-risen crescent moon. Smooth gravel left by the long-dry creek leads back to a deepening gorge in the still-sun-warm cliffs. Invisible pack beasts make gentle night noises where they are tethered in the shelter of one of the rising walls.

A small cube is apparent at the base of the cliff, partly revealed, still partly encased in rock, but untouched itself by water or wind. Both the cube’s top, and the side closest the moon smoothly gleam in the night, seeming to belong. The only other uncovered facet lies in impossible shadow, giving the impression of great depth, of containing something mysterious - alien but inviting.

The ladder is hidden well, and only visible when near. The rungs are skilfully carved into the living rock of the cliff wall, their purpose unknown. It begins a few meters away from the cube, and twists with stone into darkness and its goal, finally disappearing behind a sheltering buttress of rock.

Back toward the open desert, the camels draw attention with a new outburst of soft grunting. A saddle and some half-full panniers are stashed nearby, barely visible in the dark.

A brief shift in the wind brings the smell and electrical charge of a storm, still somewhere out of sight on the sand. The excited animals shift against each other. Another capricious shift of wind again hides the storm, another returns the smell and adds the faintest whisper of vibrant hissing. The beasts are somewhat reassured by their sheltered camp, but they do not sleep.

Clumps of low flowers lie hidden here and there amongst the rocks, pale blooms open to the cool night air. These are sparse and seem rare, yet wherever one searches for new footing in the night, there lies another silvered patch of the tiny plants. The wind ruffles their dusty leaves.

I think the descriptions in the "voCUBEulary" were pretty close to describing me, but in a few cases some of the alternatives in the descriptions didn't quite match.

I don't think the scope being used is entirely accurate though. I'd guess that for me, the cube represents my comfort zone, the ladder represents the means that are available to me to reach that comfort zone, the horse represents personal relationships in general and the flowers represent the beautiful or worthwhile things in life.

Anyhow, here's the result:

---

I stand in the middle of a vast landscape, sand dunes partly obscuring the fuzzy horizon in the distance. While the sun casts strong shadows on the infinite, intermixing layers of sand that manifest the ever-moving ground, the hot air is constantly on the move. It's huge. The sand has a orange-yellow texture, which gleams of white as the sun is reflected on its surface.

There is a cube. Its size is irrelevant; it will obey my every whim; it's both huge and small enough to fit in my hands. I see it hovering in the near distance; I could easily walk there if I wanted to. Its corners are black. Each face is covered by a curious symbol or picture, which seems circular in nature. The symbol's colors are indeterminate, as is its topology, but I get a hint of infinite possibilities there, and the symbol seems exterior, as if added to the surface, but not falsely so; it belongs there. The cube's corners are made of a solid, anonymous material, like hard rubber or perhaps latex, that has few distinguishable features from a distance; although it has a natural but symmetrical, fine-grained texture, as if carved deliberately by an artist. The cube would like to be hollow, but as of yet has not decided upon it. It wants to contain something.

It is solid, mysterious, ornate, moodless, accepting and deliberately alone.

There is a ladder. It is approximately the same height as the cube. It is extendable. It is standing on the ground to the right of the cube, easily available for me to use if I wanted to. It is a robust steel ladder with rubber feet on both ends, with about 30 rungs total, fifteen on each halve. It does not require support from a wall; it will stand on its own as it is doing now if need be.

There is a horse. I wonder what it's doing there. It is standing to the left, beyond the cube. It's a dark brown stallion wearing a leather saddle, and it is waiting for something. It watches me with vague disinterest as I approach.

Suddenly the wind grows stronger, toward my left. Sand blows past me, in front of and behind the cube. It is everywhere. Soon it develops into a full sandstorm, and it is getting hard to see. I need to cover my eyes to protect them from the sand. But as I try to look, I see that the cube remains where it is, indifferent and untouchable by such matters. The ladder is equally indifferent and still stands, now partly buried in sand. The horse has approached the cube's left side and is now trying to use the cube as a cover, and I feel I should do the same.

As I approach the cube to seek cover I suddenly notice a small, white flower. It grows in a patch of grass directly below the cube, somehow shielded from the sand by its presence, and the horse is eating some of this grass. It is welcome to do this. Then I see another flower. And another. They are hard to spot in the grass, but they are there, uncountable due to their obscurity. As I examine them further I find that there are tiny flowers of all kinds; white, yellow, blue, purple... anything goes.
