I actually had a nightmare last night about spam. I dreamed about my new GMail account getting slammed.

My personal email is now up to about 1000 a month. I've had that addy for 5 years now.

Ugh. I had 600 emails in a month.

I used to receive a lot of spam at my hotmail account then I did some whois' and emailed the person who was probably sending me the stuff and said to remove me.

Here is the one I received from "Citibank" where my bank account doesn't even reside:

first time a phishing scam had passed my way in a while.. *grumble*
the thing is, I think that is citibank's official site (the url in the image is the same as the one it actually links to).

My ISP has blocking software, I recently added about 30 words to block against in the title. I'm hoping that will take care of half of it. Until I get a new 'puter and account.

I thought most pop3 clients you could filter messages by subject line (or any other part of the header)... there is also spam assassin which is supposedly the best way to squash spam.

I got the same thing, except it was "supposedly" from my own bank. I knew it was bogus.

I get about 400-600 spam messages a day, across about a dozen email accounts (I host my own mail servers). I wrote my own spam filter in Perl, which catches about 80% of them. It's still unbelievably annoying.

Because I host my own servers, I have an unlimited number of email accounts. Whenever I have to provide an email address, I set up a custom one, like 'citibank@mydomain.com' (not that I use citibank, this is just an example.). Then when they sell my email address, I not only know who did it, but I can then disallow all mail to that address. This helps, but it's a constant battle.

The main culprits for email accounts is people who grabbed them of 'whois' from the domain registration. I need to change those and have the old ones go to /dev/null.

Almost all of my spam ends up in my "bulk mail" so I'm not bothered by it. Except that with some accounts I have to delete it every once in a while

I have a secondary account I use when giving *any* info out online, unless it's important. Stuff like this forum, eBay, and my banks all have my personal account. Any other place I'm supposed to enter my address gets my secondary account -s o I hardly get any spam in the primary but the secondary one gets about 60 a day.

I get maybe about 4 a week... but has anyone read their spam recently? The things they try to do to get through the filters are pretty funny... random sentence generation and stuff... it's almost like spam poetry... hold on...

These have the addresses and actual advertising edited out... I think they're kinda funny.

the persons who design such software are enjoying their talents as the spam era begot sophistication of verbal mathematics though i do not know the formal name for them they likely fall under discrete mathematics with some artificial intelligence such as fuzzy logic if they are intelligent enough

What's really odd is that some of them seem to be pulling things from the same work... I've gotten a few more, and they have the same people mentioned... I wonder what the story is, if there is a reason they're using bits of it, and why that paticular story? I'll post the new ones when I get a chance...
