No, I'm just thinking so please go away and leave me alone.

The people I hang with and work with now are cool, but back when I worked at my college, there were a lot of feeler types who used to assume I was always upset or pissed about something. I always had the most unsociable, paranoid expression on my face. It was mainly the situation of sitting in a hall with lots of people, lots of noise, nobody I know. Like being in an anonymous crowd of people who could look down and shake their head at me at any moment.
Well, maybe I was upset about something. Upset about the aforementioned environment ;) People who knew me knew better, though, with my seemingly cocky attitude and assuredness about myself. Some of them regarded me like an underdog wizard who secretly had the whole place in control at the tip of his finger. That in and of itself is misunderstanding me, but in the opposite way ;)

my behaviour has been described as stupid on several occasions.
Me too, by my mom whom I think is an estj.

Mmm-hmm. People say they're afraid to talk to me because I always appear to be aloof and cold. In reality, I'm just thinking!

There are a good amount of people who I'm sure consider me arrogant. I don't consider myself arrogant but rather as realistic as possible in my view of myself and my ideas (so if I find them to be good, I won't lie about it directly), but maybe I'm wrong?

I've had a few people tell me they thoought I was arrogant in the past. I'm pretty sure they were all F's. I do have this habit of only saying things that I'm fairly sure of, so I do speak with conviction. I think this bothers some people.
I haven't gotten this particular feedback for several years. I'm not sure whether I have changed my style or not, but I can say that I do talk less and don't correct people when they say stupid things like I used to. Did I mention that I'm not arrogant?

I've gotten the "what's wrong" for no reason other than I look sad to people when I'm not significantly so, but I'm rarely if ever called dumb or arrogant. I tend not to want to appear arrogant lest it make me seem dumb or unadaptable.

I hardly ever have that.
But then again I usually pace around with a intense look in my eyes while stroking my manly manly beard. This usually says enough that I'm thinking. Especially when some of my thoughts come out of my mouth while I'm thinking.
"Now lets see... if I were to use gasoline she might light up faster..hmm"

Definitely called arrogant, when I'm just being impersonal. I correct people matter-of-factly (turns off a lot of people), and am matter-of-fact when I am corrected (also turns off a lot of people).

I get told to stop using such big words, to stop showing off, and called arrogant in general all the time.
The funniest is when people start debates and I jump in when I get bored. I get this look on my face, and since none of them know me they all think I'm angry. In reality I usually am thoroughly enjoying myself, my expression is one of concentration.
If you get too tired of it get a cattle prod and teach them not to call you that. :)

I don't recall being called arrogant, but I get the "whats wrong?", "Why are you worrying?" quite a bit.
The worst is "Why are you so quiet?"

Yeah, apparently I too look angry when I'm concentrating.

Don't you just love it when you're thinking about something, and someone comes up and tells you to "Smile!" or other such crap. I usually say something like, "I can't. I ran out of Vodka." Either that, or I give them the piercing, 'I can see right through you' look, with as little expression as possible.

No not really. People say I am too critical on my self, but thats how I feel from my experiances. Sometimes I can sound arrogant though.

This is consoling, but not half as much as ordering them to be knouted for insolence.

Most of the people around me are oblivious to it.

constantly, including by my SJ parents...I also get "condescending" quite often.

The sociopathic look is the best. I think I have it permanantly on my face. Its really easy to know if I like being around you, because its probably the only time I look like I don't want to stab you repeateadly.
I'm really exagerating here, but I have been termed unreadable/stone face by many of friends and thats fine with me. If they knew what thoughts were going on in my head, they would be pissed off. People are offended way too easily.

I get the reputation for being nice. Which puzzles me geatly since I keep on wondering if I could blow their heads off and somehow call it "justifiable homicide

I get that all the time. Worse is when people who don't know you yell at you to smile. Apparantly seeing my uncontorted face for three seconds really brings them down.

ive noticed that some ppl accually think im arrogent, b/c im always thinking, in my own world. I think they think im a mindless daydreaming fool. the ironic thing is, im always thinking to myself how irrational and unintelligent people are when im in large settings like a classroom or sm. people have accually came up to me and said "whats wrong", like i was emotionally distressed or sm, anyone else get this???
So hard to read, must withhold anger.
I dunno, I've seen your last few posts and I have come to conclusion that you are either a young INTP or not an INTP at all.
[edit]
Also, only people in my immediate family and close friends have ever called me arrogant. I just blow it off, they call my uncle arrogant too.
They also have a great time laughing at our shortfalls, which doesn't make me feel bad because I laugh at them all the time :P

All of this happens to me frequently. People are bothered by it. My favorite is "You are so pretty, why do you look so serious? You look much prettier when you smile...". Mostly when I was young I was considered arrogant, and called me a 'Bitch'.

Not lately. I don't know if I've ever been called arrogant. I'm sure some people have thought it though, as people have called me a know-it-all and closed minded before. I've been called dumb several times, but it's usually when I'm arguing with someone. I'm usually right, too.

Here! Here! Leave me to my thoughts. I will be with you in a bit (if "a bit" means never)
i've gotten dumb by my ISTP ex boyfriend. i just couldn't formulate my thoughts quickly enough for him and when i did say anything, he saw it from a completely different point of view & cut me down for it. i never understood how he could be so unwilling to explore other possibilities. but yea, he called me dumb the majority of the time.
however, he's the only person who's really referred to me as dumb. i've gotten arrogant before, but not a lot. i'm not very vocal about my intelligence.

Lately for me I've been getting:
"Stop thinking you're better than other people, because you're not"
to which I reply
"Sorry... but I am"
Not that I particularly believe it, but it shuts them up.

Yup most ppl are nuts
But when they stare at me as if i were somehow depressed
They always say something like
"why are u so quite"
"something's wrong"
"u look depressed"
I try hard to bring up the facial xpressions of my face to make them sense nothings wrong, but i miserably fail to do so.
Think i need to gear up my body lang. or whatever.
Probably my Ti is getting dominant. http://www.personalitypage.com/INTP_per.html
Anyways i dont care what ppl think of me.
I only care when it matters :)

yes i am a young intp, and yes it is idiot-ese, only because i was in a hurry. So shut your face (in this case, abruptly stop your fingers from moving) and dont be so hung up on my little abbreviations that you would know nothing about because your from some ancient time when you diddnt have instant messanger. Ummm... Opie is still in High School. And she doesn't go around making fun of people.
Your writing is a bit irritating to read. Most of us do spend a lot of time on instant messengers, I spend several hours a day. We just all try to converse normally on here.
So in conclusion... Fuck You... hater. ;)

I use AIM, MSN Messenger, ICQ, Yahoo! Messenger. And I write proper english. I can understand the abbreviations you use, but would prefer you used normal english. You could have posted your topic later, when you had more time.

This isn't an instant messenger, if you didn't happen to notice. This is a discussion forum.
When using instant messengers or SMS, it's only reasonable to use abbreviations. I don't have anything against that. However, using bad spelling and grammar at a discussion forum isn't reasonable, especially at an INTP discussion forum. Many INTPs seem to be grammar nazis, you see.
And now, I shall have some fun with homonyms at your expense. I apologize in advance. :D *evil snicker*

Whose from are you talking about? My from? Excuse me, but I don't own a from. Do you? What does your from look like?

It is one thing to use shorthand on IM with people you know.
It is another to use it on a public forum where some people learned English as a second (or third) language.

Haha, reminds me of when I make fun of my friends online for all the little errors, and when I make mine I quickly correct myself. Good thing for edit buttons on forums.

No, I'm just thinking so please go away and leave me alone.
Absolutely analogical to my ongoing routine. I am constantly asked- even by my parents- whether anything is wrong, and why do I look tired/distressed. Being classified as "arrogant" one is not a novelty either- when all I would attempt to do is giving an objective opinion/advice.
P.S. I've never really been called "dumb"- mostly, too "difficult" and "strange". I find that many people, who are unable to find any flaws in my reasonings but still want to disagree, respond with "what an idioticy". When I ask them to back their statement up, they normally disappear by that point.
