I copied this from another mail group. What do you think?
10 TRUTHS BLACK AND HISPANIC PEOPLE KNOW, BUT WHITE PEOPLE WON'T ADMIT:
1. Elvis is dead.
2. Jesus was not White.
3. Rap music is here to stay
4. Kissing your pet is not cute or clean.
5. Skinny does not equal sexy.
6. Thomas Jefferson had black children.
7. A 5 year child is too big for a stroller.
8. N' SYNC will never hold a candle to the Jackson 5
9. An occasional BUTT whooping helps a child stay in line.
10. Having your children curse you out in public is not normal.
10 TRUTHS WHITE AND BLACK PEOPLE KNOW, BUT HISPANIC PEOPLE WON'T ADMIT:
1. Hickies are not attractive.
2. Chicken is food, not a roommate.
3. Jesus is not a name for your son.
4. Your country's flag is not a car decoration.
5. Maria is a name but not for every other daughter.
6. "Jump out and run" is not in any insurance policies.
7. 10 people to a car is considered too many.
8. Buttoning just the top button of your shirt is a bad fashion
statement.
9 Mami and Papi can't possibly be the nickname of every person in
your family.
10.Letting your children run wildly through the store is not normal.
10 TRUTHS WHITE AND HISPANIC PEOPLE KNOW, BUT BLACK PEOPLE WON'T ADMIT:

4. Weddings should start on time.
5. Your pastor doesn't know everything.
6. Church does not require expensive clothes.
7. Jesse Jackson will never be President.

I found these cultural myths humorous, and true. However, when reading those from my culture, I found just how removed I can be, in typical INTP fashion:
O. J. did it.
Of course he did. Those ladies on the jury were making a cultural and political statement.
Tupac is dead.
Yes he is. He was shot by someone for something. Since I have never been a rap fan, I could not discern a Tupac rap song from an Ice Cube rap song...... ,or an Ice Tea rap song......., or hell for that matter Vanilla Ice rap song!
Teeth should not be decorated.
I watched the Vikings and Colts game on Monday Night Football. Each time they panned to a close up of Edgerin James, my stomach turned.
Weddings should start on time.
Wouldn't know. I never have been to one. I can't see the difference between that and a funeral.
Your pastor doesn't know everything.
And the congregation says, "Amen".
Church does not require expensive clothes.
And the congregation says "Hallelujah". Could never discern whether I was at a fashion expose or church..... Not that I enjoy either.
Jesse Jackson will never be President.
No, but the right Reverand Al Sharpten will.
RED is not a kool-aid flavor, it's a color.
I'm not even sure what that means.
Crown Royal bags are meant to be thrown away.
 You have to know some Black's who actually drink it.
Your rims and sound system should not be worth more than your
car.
I have a better one. Your car should not be worth more than your house.

Hmm, let me try my hand at this:
10 things Asians know but the rest of the world doesn't:
1) Rice can taste good.
2) Hand-planting crops is much more efficient than using tractors and combines.
3) Swords are meant to be respected, not swung by actors.
4) Anime is not the same as American cartoons.
5) History repeats itself and the family is superior to the individual.
6) Yellow skin = jaundice.
7) 99% of Asian foods outside of Asia are not Asian.
8) Aestheticism does not require Martha Stewart's help.
9) Asians (perhaps Japanese in particular) are very horny people in private.
10) If you are a street racer/drifter, the Japanese ownz joo.

I think that the gist of this is to list things that may be culturally biased or stereotypical for that particular group. For example: "4 familes to a home is considered too many", or "It's okay to buy individual homes" may be a stereotype for a Vietnamese. It's hard to do Asians since they remain relatively low in the American culture.

Here's one for everybody...

Hunter S. Thompson once laid it down ( unAmericanly ) that because someone is a poor and oppressed victim, it doesn't mean they are nice or worthy. Sometimes they are vile and contemptible.
Not saying they should be poor, not saying they should be oppressed: just that they are not, automatically, injured saints.

Exactly. Goes both ways, too... just because someone is of a disreputable group doesn't mean that they themselves are a bad person.

Yeah, Gipsies, Bushes, Tramps and Thieves.
But you can't push it to a logical conclusion, o/w bad things will happen. Imagine the MidWest circa 1955 suddenly realising communists and nazis were people too...

I'm not sure what you're referring to, since Minnesota for one, has had a longstanding tradition (since an extremely popular commie governor we had in the early 1900s) of being very sympathetic towards communists. During the first and second world wars people here weren't as anti-nazi as the rest of the country either since probably 75% of the population at that time was German, and that goes for Wisconsin too. My uncle Kent was born in about 1945 and his middle name is Adolf, he doesn't brag about it now but my grandparents never got into any trouble for their mild nazi-loving (which was mostly due to the sentiment towards German heritage, not necessarily belief in a supreme race) Though I'm sure German was dropped as a required language in schools here as well as everywhere else, to keep up the ol' patriotism. I also know some 'aryan' descendents from Wisconsin. Bright, genetically fucked up people they be.
I think most of the anti-naziism we have now is due to the efforts of liberal educators and revisionists from the past couple decades. (I'm not saying Hitler was good, I just think most of the hatred people display towards him is because of culture conditioning...not some innate moral superiority that Americans are blessed with)

I'm not sure what you're referring to,
I thought that in Joe McCarthy's time, and later up to say Nixon's Detente, there was a fairly noticible anti-commie hysteria all over America ( comparable to the period 1917 - 24 anti-'bolshevik' hysteria ); and what with the inhabitants of the MidWest being regarded as rather more simplistic-minded by the East Coast snobs and the West Coast hustlers...
Not that Joe was ever actually wrong about the things he was talking about, he wasn't: just that it was presented in a bullying fervour and the mass started turning on the commie-sympathisers
[ Which last bit is pretty ironic and funny ].
I think most of the anti-naziism we have now is due to the efforts of liberal educators and revisionists from the past couple decades.
Exactly. Plus all the misinformation that was fed to the people, especially the fighters, during WWII.
But Revisionists refers to those others who are sceptical about certain aspects of the war and the incidents as commonly presented. [ Although, Revisionism also can be applied to WWI, The American War Between The States, and the Cold War. Generally, since few care about other outcomes, Revisionism is just called historical controversy in all other cases ].
(I'm not saying Hitler was good, I just think most of the hatred people display towards him is because of culture conditioning...not some innate moral superiority that Americans are blessed with)
Exactly once more. Not that you could get away with that on another Forum I used to chat on...
I detest Naziism as a plebian mass-democratic republican cult; but to believe in all the devilish plans and deeds of great, near supernatural, wickedness ascribed to it, and especially to that leader, not only would require a lobotomy which is not needed for the average person but also offends me by exalting the nazis far beyond their deserts.
But my point was that, whatever their individual and group good ( there were some ) and bad deeds, each individual nazi or fascist or soviet or even anarchist is a different soul, each with different reasons for making him or her that way. Easy judgements are the devil.
