Is there way that we could possibly implement the ability to upload songs onto a forum music library of sorts?

As long as they aren't copyrighted, and in the case of copyrighted material belonging to forum members, that they accept a disclaimer allowing INTPcentral to freely distribute their material.

If we can gaurantee that, and that we have the space and bandwidth that wouldn't be better used for something else...

So, basically, yes, but it's too much of a hassle.

I can't really speak for the capabilities of the server's hardware, or the willingness of our moderators to check to make sure that the policies and fileshare aren't being abused.

That said, I, personally, wouldn't want to be responsible for something like that.

Our moderators are always eager and willing to go beyond the call of duty, eating as well as breathing --- at the same time --- but even if it was found there was enough space I could guarantee that it would be filled up by three months...

And it would probably be filled by November through January--the worst three months of the year.

Hey, November is the best month. April is the cruelest.

The INFP? The cruellest? She always seemed rather friendly to me. I suppose our truer selves lie open to you, given your all-seeing administrative eye.

Though as for November being the best month, I believe you are familiar with the following condemnation.

No shadow no stars
no moon no cars
November
it only believes
in a pile of dead leaves
and a moon
that's the color of bone

No prayers for November
to linger longer
stick your spoon in the wall
we'll slaughter them all

November has tied me
to an old dead tree
get word to April
to rescue me
November's cold chain

Made of wet boots and rain
and shiny black ravens
on chimney smoke lanes
November seems odd
you're my firing squad
November

With my hair slicked back
with carrion shellac
with the blood from a pheasant
and the bone from a hare
tied to the branches
of a roebuck stag
left to wave in the timber
like a buck shot flag

Go away you rainsnout
go away blow your brains out
November

...I'll agree to disagree.

This would have to be done so covertly. Really, what would work better is a "wanted" forum. This way (it would have to be VERY STRICTLY members only...as in, you can't be a member until you have X number of posts <preventing leeches/"covert" riaa informants / general snitches ) someone could go in there and type:

<<Wanted: Bon Jovi - Slippery When Wet>>

or whatever...
(by the way, before i get harassed for using Bon Jovi as a reference, let me add that i was cleaning my cassette tape collection today, and found that tape in the box)

Then, individuals could reply through PM and send the person the song/album they needed. once the request has been filled, the asker could follow up on their post and post...

<<Done!>>

And of course, these posts would not count toward postcount.

Would this be do-able? Could these requests (once completed) be "pruned" after a week or so? would this be too much work?

I'd be willing to prune, if everyone thinks that this would work.

EDIT: Yes, I realize how paranoid i sound when i mentioned "RIAA informants". but i mentioned it for the protection of all.

it would be a lot of bandwidth.. we are not a mp3 distribution site.. there isn't really a way to verify whether an mp3 is copywritten. in the past, when I wanted to share music with people I just linked to all the songs so people could download them (sites like scene.org, archive.com,etc make it feasible-ish).

so we'd make torrents,or use rapidshare, or xdrive...if you wanted to make the sharing public. i just can't imagine the ramifications if the INTPc were found out to be "enabling" the sharers of copyrighted files. This is why (not to toot my own horn) I think that my idea about a "request" board would work. The way i suggested, no one (aside from the requestor and the sharer) would know who gave who the files unless the sharer wanted to be known. Then, he or she are incriminating his or herself. There could be some kind of disclaimer (sticky) at the top of the forum.

Of course, i'm willing to listen to dissenting opinions. i know that i'm often wrong.
