View Full Version : Effect of temperature (on person)

Something I thought about a while ago, is how the ambient temperature surrounding me, seems to have a really significant effect on my happiness / attitude / well-being etc.
Usually I'm happier when its just a little bit cold - enough to be comfortable, and enough that if I do anything energetic, I don't get too hot and sweaty.
I find it kind of annoying that something so simple can have such a profound effect. And there's not much always much we can do about it.
Probably the biggest effect I notice is when I've been in ther heat for a while, then get to go in some nice air-conditioning - mmmmm nice to breathe in.

that reminds me .. during the late summer or early fall, I would drive to work with my window down between 3 or 5am .. and the cool air felt really good..
If I'm hot I'm a miserable bastard. That's one of the big reason's I moved away from Phoenix. It doesn't matter if it's a dry heat - it's hot. I'll take being cold any day.

The perfect temperature is upper 50s, low 60s. No rain, slight breeze at most. Sunrise or dusk. Early-mid fall.

Cool or cold, overcast. I'm still wearing just t-shirts through most of the winter... but I do wear long pants.

The more in shape you are the less sensitive you are to temperature/humidity. And it helps if you have a life so you can concentrate on something else.

So in other words, I am hopeless when it comes to being affected by temperature? : p
I hate being hot. It definitely agitates me quite a bit, especially when I'm doing something and I keep failing at it, the heat just exagerates the frustration. Sometimes I love being really cold, sometimes not. Depends if I'm one with the universe or not at that moment.

I ignore temperture. It's 7 degrees C in my flat, and I'm comfortable.

Sounds like most of you do get the same or similar effect as me due to temperature.
So that leads to my other point.
Its so irritating that we are so effected by temperature It should be such a trivial thing. But something so simple has such an effect on my thinking ability and emotions etc.
Interesting point someone mentioned there about being 'fit' and healty, making one less effected by temperature. I'll have to ponder that - see if it works on me at all.

I cannot stand the discomfort of being hot. Never could, although having an air conditioner in grad school and when I first started teaching made me even softer. Living back at home with no AC is almost unbearable.
Cold doesn't really get to me. My room holds heat fairly well, and its easy enough to turn on a space heater at your feet or put on a heavy sweatshirt or hockey jersey.

We're both in the wrong place. I live in Melbourne but its too cold here for me. I really like humid weather, its nice and relaxing. I spent the first 10 yrs of my life in Glasgow, brrrrr, freezing, snow in my wellies while walking to school, etc. I think I need to spend the rest of my life defrosting.

Heat makes me feel pickled. The cold makes me feel alive and refreshed.

I love the fall it makes me feel so alive.
The smells, the cool air, the crunchy leafs that I love kicking my way through. Im sure I look silly doing it but I love stepping on crunchy leafs.

18.5c is the ideal temerature for me, with a slight breeze.
Too cold and I get down, plus I start to ache more. Too hot and I get cranky and dizzy

October is my favorite month for that very reason Shaytana, although December is right up there as well.
