I wanted to have the first post on one of these pages! :D
And to ask a question of the non-U.S. posters:
Are you interested in the U.S. Presidential election this fall, and why/why not?

Not massively. Although I'd like Mr. Bush to be knocked off his perch: there's an old anarchist saying: "No matter who you vote for, the government gets in".
I'm the opposite of an anarchist, but...

I'm not as interested as I should be. This is mostly resultant from the fact that everybody complains about the 2 party system, but they still won't vote for a 3rd party candidate.
Neither major party really agrees with my libertarian views, so I will vote 3rd party.

Yes, Im slightly interested... I just don't want Mr Bush to win again. The American government and their decisions can definitely have an impact on Canada...

Absolutely! I truly hope Bush doesn't win, but I do have my doubts about John Kerry. Only thing I hate is those election runs! come on, talk about the important things instead of endless speeches without meaning. Give America a president with brains and the world will look a bit nicer already!

I've decided to pick up the art of thread necromancy.
What do you feel about Bush now, Sugaraddict2702?
Edit: the ghoulish presence of this utterly outdated thread unsettles me. I must work on developing internal fortitude before further work summoning the undead.

Ain't that the truth. I've voted 3rd party more than once ... mostly out of disgust for the two crooks running for the major parties. Never does a bit of good. The Democrats and Republicans are firmly in control of this country.

The US elections are slightly different this time. Usualy its a white, ivy league, male, right winger v white, ivy league, male, slightly more right winger.
They say its nothing like the old hereditory kings of Europe. Yet we have a president who is the son of the last but one president. This time we may get the wife of the last president. Yep, anyone can rise to the top in the land of the free.
I hope Obama gets in. Since none of those corrupt establishment types would usualy associate with a half black guy we may get some independent thinking. I dont even know what his policies are, that is enough for me.

A president's election should not have been because of her family. However, neither should her failure be because of her family.

I'd like Obama to win. From whatever I've seen of him, he strikes me as a visionary.

I'm interested - who-ever gets chosen as the leader of the United States has a lot of influence on foreign policy, and that has repercussions on the rest of the world. I wouldn't go so far as to say I actively follow it, or have a favorite. It's more that I have a few "god, not that asshole!" candidates I'm hoping won't get elected.

I don't think you can get the Democrat nomination without being part of the establishment. who comes up with all those funds for his campaign? poor kids selling buttons?

Yea, I always hope that they dont elect any of the insane religious fundamentalists.
Other than that I dont really care since they are basically all the same because the person with the most campaign money will likely win, and then represent the interests of the tiny minority that are his sponsors. It's just that the current President Bush is so dumb that all his bad policies are obvious to everyone, but I doubt that his successor will be very different as far as actuall policies are concerned, though his or her administration will likely present a friendlier and more competent public face.

Edwards portrays himself as a visionary too (he's probably an ENFx type), but his vision is not selling as well this time. Obama seems to have more abstracted vision, but less teeth/gumption.
So I do not know if his vision is good for him, or if it will get him his throat ripped out the first month on the job. Political intrigue is not a great environment for dreamers. He might be eaten alive.

Redundant. :)

I suppose it's been revived now that the next elections are coming up. I'd expect that anyone interested in politics would be interested in the US elections. We like to say, 'America's the big daddy'!

I don't know that much about the US Elections, but I do know that you guys are trillions of dollars in debt. I would prefer your economy not to collapse. And I think everyone would benefit from a strong economist getting in.
So Ron Paul would get my vote If I could vote and if I voted.
