I got a message that there was a error uploading my avatar... so I'm going to appeciate any detailed instructions on what I should have been doing! Because, like a lot of you, I appreciate a "face" to go with a name...
We'll see, eh? (yes, I'm Canadian)

Oh hey - it worked... (so why did I get an "error" message???)
Hello and welcome.
Where are you in Canada?

You've revealed so much about yourself already, Clara; I feel as if I've known you all my life. :)
(note the friendly sarcasm)
Anyway, welcome. And, as always, Anna welcomes you too.

Welcome,
I'm also Canadian.
Love your Avatar.

Well, that was an abbreviated introduction on my part, wasn't it? I didn't know that adding an avatar was going to be so simple, and so in my relief, I didn't do the polite part...
Thanks for the welcome, mgbradsh, Niflheimian & greenintp.
I live in Quebec, & I'm INTP - mother of an INTJ. Which is part of why I'm posting here, besides enjoying this brilliant forum. INT-s do have a distinct kind of perspective, and it's the one I'm most at home in.
And, crows are my favorite birds.
@ Niflheimian
so... now you've got me wondering what the "after"-picture of Anna might look like...
however... welcome, Clara! :hello:
edit: why is the phear-smiley going rogue? any hints appreciated...

Just kidding yaar, Welcome to the group ^.^

Hi Clara! :hello:
Funny you like crows, because I do too. After seeing a crow flying around with a baby's pacifier in its beak, I couldn't help but thinking they are hilarious.

Yo. Crows are cool... but I think squirrels would win.

My next door neighbor has a good answer to squirrels: a thing with motion sensor, so that it swivels and sprays water all over the garden, when it's triggered. Funnily enough, it's shaped like a stylized crow - poor squirrels! (They're all getting very plump, somewhere, though)

I don't know about that. Squirrels don't have talons or wings or sharp beaks. Just bushy tails really.
My money is on the crows.
Is that match legal? Or should we head to Mexico to settle this?

Crows may be able to fly, but the squirrels have speed and maneuverability like mad.
They may not have beaks but they've got teeth... and they do have claws... Don't knock the tail. (middle school geek moment: Who won in Redwall? That's right, the squirrels. Sure, they had bows and arrows, but hey, they still won.) I have this feeling that the bushy ones would go for the nuts, ending the fight quickly...
This may have to go to international waters, even...

But did you see "The Birds". Pretty scary. I think the only advantage the squirrels would have is when the crows land. Even then, I would take a beak over teeth.
International waters it is.

Depends on the scene really. Out in the open the crows would shred the squirrels in no time, but in a forest...those squirrels are quick. And a crow can't fly with a squirrel on its back.
Still, I'd put my bet on the crows.

Do squirrels have innate senses of distance and movement and timing in order to jump right when the crows are flying in front of the tree branch?

Distance definitely. Timing, I'm not sure, but I wouldn't put it past them - those buggers jump like mad.
But I was thinking more along the lines that if a crow attacked a squirrel, said crow would get attacked by another squirrel, and then not be able to lift.

 I'm really enjoying the squirrel vs crows thing you guys have going  (yes, feel free to take it outside lol)
:hello: Six, Aryan, Sam172, Boneca, SheepDog & jimkopelli - I'm glad to meet you all, too. :) I'm struck by all the different parts of the world everyone lives in... (and Pickering, Ontario, where I think winters are usually mild?)
Always nice to "hear" someone using French, Sam172 - you're right, that's the other language at our house.

I think it might boil down to which is smarter, crows or squirrels. They have both mastered their particular domains (sorry Sienfeld is on) but which would adapt better to the others domain?

(I usually avoid trying to explain jokes - but...
for those who haven't been able to see crows, and squirrels, on a frequent basis:
it would never happen. So their debate isn't about that - that's what's funny - "berserker crows" & "warrior squirrels"...)

I've seen attacks by a starling on a squirrel, which caused it (the squirrel) to have a heart attack and die
.
I've seen a crow go after a large house cat to take it's mouse. OK, I helped a little when I investigated and saw what the crow was after.
My money... (the entire 2 cents) is on the crow. If we could just find a way to kick west nile.

Over all... winter is mild in Pickering. It's becoming more wintery each year.
I actually was born in Northern Ontario so I do remember what a real winter is.
Maybe it's that Nuclear plant next door that keeps the earth here too warm for snow & freezing. I've heard several of the reactors are down which could explain why it's becoming more wintery. ;)

I have tried several times to answer - I don't know why trying to post gives me a "You're not logged in" message - but I suspect I'll have to notice exactly what I'm doing, to be able to ask what's going wrong... in the meantime, I've tried a few variables, hit & miss
greenintp - I appreciate the crow facts, and knowing that at least one other person has a betting limit similar to mine (a nickel)! My recurring ignorance about Ontario has nothing to do with Ontario/Ontarians, and a lot to do with "deciding" that "we belong here" - a common result of some staying & some moving away.
Posting now, in case typing r e a l l y s l o w l y . . . a n d c h a n g i n g i t makes a difference

Hi Clara. :hello: I enjoyed your comment on jjt's post. It summed up every high school report I ever had.
".. Thankfully, the current lot won't say: "... very bright, so obviously not applying..." - aargh!)
You should add it to "Summarising INTP's in 50-100 bullet points" under "People and psychology". Its worth remembering

athman,
Not until high school? Here's the gist of the speech, if yours are precocious: "The word is 'tedious,' not 'boring.' Yes, you have to do this; yes, your feelings about it matter, let's try to make it more fun (yes, you have to do it). :)
Aryan - hello! So... I'm wondering: from the crows' viewpoint, we might seem not intelligent enough to speak their language (but maybe they don't assume such things).

Hi greenintp! It sounds like everybody could do with more laughing 'til we fall over, and you're starting the trend, with Aryan
Something you might not know about "this part of Canada:" we talk about language a lot. (Usually just the two, though - and as though two was a large sum. ) And most people assume, when I'm groping for words, that switching to "the" other language would help  Not.
To get to our favorite avians (ok, mine) - and to people for whom Sensing comes most easily - how do we measure... since we're using different languages?
