So this is a question of how loyal you are to your nation and the principles it stands for. I do this partly as a tribute to the men/women fighting overseas. As well I want to see how willing would we be to do certain things....Heres the senerio: Your nation has went to war with a "threating" force, it has a small chance of killing you and your family/friends. This force has been exposed of doing very inhumane things...(ex. Germany in WWII). It has killed a limited amount(5000) of your own people (civilliains mostly). You are currently unempolyed with a limited(near non-existant) chance of getting a good job or an education.

I wouldn't do anything for any country, unless it benefited me in some way.

i wouldn't do anything for my country and i responded to the poll based on the actual question, but after i voted and saw the poll options i would most likely kill if my life or family's life was threatened- but that doesn't really have anything to do with patriotism. loyalty yes, patriotism no

edit: I guess I'd kill the enemy, too. especially if other people were endangered

Well it would depend what was happening to my country.
If it was being invaded by freaks I would be there with a gun.

Countries don't exist. Rulers do.

What things would those have been around, say, 1941 ?

Countries don't exist. Rulers do.

that seems correct at first, but not everything that people mean when they say country will change when the ruler does. everything that affects the country as a whole, will affect the ruler too.

Why not simply relocate with your loved ones?

Why not simply relocate with your loved ones? that's kind of hard when the enemy is everywhere

that seems correct at first, but not everything that people mean when they say country will change when the ruler does. everything that affects the country as a whole, will affect the ruler too.

Of course it will affect the ruler, particularly if he's overthrown; but countries are geographical expressions with arbitrary boundaries in which live nations of races or peoples. Since these groups of people are arbitrarily chosen as well, what matters solely is allegiance.

And only a fool would consider giving allegiance to a non-person or artificial entity.

Why would one give allegiance to anything or anyone, period? (I understand reasons for pretending to give allegience, but I mean *truly* giving it.)

I will have no problem protecting my country, using any force necessery to win.
I do belive loyalty is important, but it should not be taken for granted. I wouldn't fight if the government lacked the will to win or I felt they didn't represent me anymore.

Hereditary loyalty.

Hereditary loyalty.
(to ask the obvious question: )

Why hereditary loyalty?

How about to protect my home, my belongings, my family, my way of life from those who with to take that away from me?
Because that is the only reason I see for fighting in a war.

I wouldn't do shit for my country. My state maybe, but not my nation as a whole. Not until the Southern states secede.

I wouldn't do anything at all. For any nation, state or government.

I'd like to think I'd fight for my nation, or other nations, against forces which I believe are oppressive or corrupt - whether those forces exist within the nation, or abroad. But nobody knows just how far they are willing to go until they're in that very situation. Sure, you can talk, you can be certain of what you believe is correct, but when the time comes, will you do it? I can't be that sure about my own strength.

Therein lies why I would like the Southern states to secede. (Most) of them preach about morality and etc but look at that bimbo! She is one truckstop away from being barefoot and pregnant with twins.

It's such a classy pic, you just gotta love it. I'm particularly intrigued by the dog: I wonder what it's supposed to represent?

The greatest piece of southern themed visual art I ever saw was this sizable felt mural--at least nine square feet, if not more, featuring a viking ship, complete with vikings digging their oars into a stormy sea. The sail on the viking ship was a confederate flag.

I wanted to buy that thing the instant I saw it, but the friend I was with saw it first. For months he would say that it was the best five dollars he ever spent, and then it mysteriously disappeared and he never mentioned it again.
