View Full Version : Presidential Candidate Selector -- 2008 Front Runners
INTrePid
22 Aug 2006, 03:36 PM
This selector features 25 names of politicians considered by pundits to be possible White House contenders. There is about a 95% percent chance that the name of the next president is included in this selector. You may select a position for every issue, or just select those issues important to you. The candidates' positions are based on their voting records, special interest group ratings and the candidates' statements in the public record. The results are scored on a curve. 100% means that we are 100% certain that the top candidate on your list shares more of the views you indicated than any other candidate.

Does anyone think the whole republican vs democrat, liberal vs conservative divide (and all of the other meaningless political terms) are in fact a logical fallacy (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/False_dilemma)?
Even the top '100%' candidate chosen for me based on my responses, has a very poor correlation with my actual views.

This is a pretty hilarious example how my ideas basically are split down the rep/dem divide. Pro some things reps like, pro some things dems like, pro some things neither like.
Although fuck if I would ever vote for romney, the guy is a prick.

It is not a logical fallacy. It only is if you refuse to see that there are in fact, alternatives. Sure, they may not get votes but that doesn't stop them from being alternatives.
Furthermore there are moderates on both sides, and I'm sure at least a few people with weird mixed interests.

Does anyone think the whole republican vs democrat, liberal vs conservative divide (and all of the other meaningless political terms) are in fact a logical fallacy (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/False_dilemma)?Most forget, or never knew, that the Republican and Democrats were initially one party, with Thomas Jefferson, James Madison, James Monroe and John Quincy Adams all being elected under that party. As for conservative v. liberal I think there is a greater distinction, however since the majority of registered voters are moderate, the two parties have to appease them, resulting in there really being one party again. It was my thoughts that a third party would prevail before 2008, and subsequent to the Bush/Gore election. I guess there is hope for 2012.

Especially when presidential candidates always lean towards the "center", giving all of the candidates plenty of past "radical" dirt.

Though that's still not as low as joft's bottom pick. I'm jealous of his political incompatibilities.

Time to Wikipedia these guys (and gals). I'd vote for any of the top 4. I'm not that much of a fan of Hilary, but we'll have to see her opponents. 2008 will be my first time voting for a presidential election and I wonder if it'll be exciting as I'm making it out in my mind. :)

Do Hillary and her backers realize how many people would rather eat broken glass, shit it out, then eat it again, than vote for her?

Do Hillary and her backers realize how many people would rather eat broken glass, shit it out, then eat it again, than vote for her?
Yes, but what they focus on is how many people would love to see her in office.
They also focus on the fact that all she would have to do to win would be to win every state John Kerry did plus one more, which is actually quite possible for her to do.

Information. I didn't feel that the answers I gave said much about my real opinions, because of the usual "well that depends on . ." considerations. I ended up with Richardson, who is somebody I never heard of, as 100%. And second was ex-governor Mark Warner. Remarkably similar to what Clave got at the top of his list. Information.

I plan to vote for Obama as soon as I evaluate his efficiency during the primaries and the debates.

Always knew I liked Obama, but I went into this with completely honest answers. "What would I do" kind of answers. This is even more motivation to finish his books... I started Dreams of my Father not too long ago but I got side tracked by some others.
