For breakfast I had Creamed Dried Beef. Yummy! The Yankee equivalent of Biscuits and Gravy.
Then I was volunteered to make the Green Bean casserole. Apparently my sister in law is no longer allowed to cook, and somehow this campbell's soup concoction got dropped in my lap. So I twisted the original, standard, 50's era recipe alot.
Then Turkey Prep. 2 Turkey's cooking. 1 in the smoker, 1 frying. Can't seem to get the smoker up to temperature. My father bought some wierd kind of charcoal with Mesquite chips mixed in. WHAT THE HELL IS UP WITH THAT!?!?! My dad always falls for that type of stuff.
I dunno what's next...

I had some cherry coke and some sausage and egg. I suppose the family is cooking something traditional,.

I'm Canadian so we already had it, but tonight is my fathers birthday so I am taking him out to dinner at a fancy restaurant of his choice. Going right now actually, bye bye.

I made peanut butter pie (all I actually wanted to eat), mashed potatoes (I actually remembered to put something in them besides butter, so they were great), yams with brown sugar, and vegetarian friendly dumplings. My mom made deviled eggs, green beans, and rolls, and my sister made a turkey and a pan of veggie dressing.
My aunt brought some sort of cheese cake-like substance that is living in the fridge, untouched by human hands for very good reasons.
Then we also had all the lovely canned cranberry sauce (which still strongly resembles a can, even though only part of it is still hanging around in the fridge) and olives and such.

Mmmmm, oh yeah, and we don't do the Turkey-thing either, although mom bought one for some reason...we still give thanks.
On that note, there are NO good prices on Comps. this year, what a ripoff...º_º'

I completely forgot about the whole Black Friday sale thing. Oh, crap. It is cold and snowy. Maybe I'll find a deal on mittens or something warm...

I ate two slices of cheese cake and some potato chips. Family had turkey and ham. I'd rather be hungry.

mmm... pecan pie is my favorite. My sister let me in on a secret. She said her recipe is mostly log cabin syrup for the filling. I never really thought about it, but it DID taste exactly like that.

cheese cake > pecan pie
but it has to be the good kind of cheese cake. Those kind in the grocery store that you blend and dump into a graham cracker crust suck.

Pecan pie is great, so long as I can scrap off the pecans first. I'm not too crazy about nuts...

I will take it in the way that you subtley intended it to mean, but also the method that you did not mean. Pumpkin pie is also tasty, I like the spicy taste that it leaves in your mouth after you eat it.

My mom makes a Pecan Pumpkin pie that is outstanding. It's a regular pumpkin pie, but with candied pecans on top.
Too bad we're not speaking to each other...

I had sweet potato pie and cheesecake, both of which I made myself. a-hem. I actually had about ten people over. Was up way late the night before and then up early T-Day.
My menu, if anyone cares,
Fried Turkey *Don't believe the hype about them catching on fire faster than a dress of a kid playing with fireworks. For some reason my water displacement test was woefully inadequet and oil spilled over the sides of the pot. The flame, of course, was fanning out under the bottom of the pot, but none of the oil burned. It should be noted that I did use the RECOMMENDED PEANUT OIL. It was a pain in the butt getting the oil off the surface where I spilled but I suppose if you have normal concrete or used it on the ground it'd soak right in. I wasn't pleased with the marinade I used but overall, I much prefer the taste of fried turkey.
I also fixed: Ham, green beans, collard greens, stuffing, yams, mashed potatos, black eyed peas, shitake mushroom gravy and I forget what else.
One of the guests brought pumkin flan. Another brought cupcakes. My favorite was my friend who dropped off two case of beer the night before to make sure they'd be properly chilled. Of which, I dug into an hour before the first guest arrived but I was pleased with myself for showing the restraint to wait until after noon and not 9:15 when I was really craving it.
I barely have enough turkey leftover to make a sandwich. One thing that kinda upset me, well, there were several that I won't go into, was when I was lying on the couch unable to move, somebody wanted more ham. So he goes into the kitchen to cut some more off. Only he doesn't follow the grain of the original cut but slices into it perpendicularly. Just the stupidest thing in the world. How do you do that? Have such a blatant disregard for food protocol? Not only screwed up all future slices of the ham but aggrivated my chi as well.
I'm not fixing another big meal for people until 2005, at least.
