CW would be perfect, being fc's real life friend and all, and that's the most important criteria, right?
Only if by that you mean someone who the admins trust. <_<
But unfortunately CW has declined.

What?
Well, the doctor flat out told that he'd been monitoring mgbradsh, in ways that I consider invasion of his privacy, checking who he was pming with, and if checks members IPs (mostly to see if central members are misrepresented at nebulous by some asshole), and some other things. Possibly even reading the PMs.
And the funniest part was how he told mgb to stop it because it made people feel uncomfortable. Oh, the irony.
Well, it was him, or fc, who knows. mgb also said he used to get pms from fc made from the doctors account.

That's some nice speculation. Hey, is this another advertising campaign.
melancholeric
12 Sep 2006, 06:21 PM
The only speculation was the part whether you actually read PMs or not. The rest is paraphrased from quotes. So ... I'll choose to believe you ... or mgbradsh.
Tough call.

We cannot check to see who people have pm'd, only what can be seen from the Who's Online info. You need server access to the database in order to read pm's, only fc and I have this access and neither of us would ever do it.
The issue with mg wasn't checking IP's, for me I was only concerned that he wouldn't be able to put in the time for both places as he stopped posting here a couple of weeks prior to any of this.
Well, it was him, or fc, who knows. mgb also said he used to get pms from fc made from the doctors account. Yeah so? I've posted from shums account, does that mean she reads your PMs too?

Oh for christ sake.
I could quote the damn conversations, but I've heard it's against the rules to post PMs in public.
Or maybe it's just mgb, and then me, getting a different version than everyone else.
And posting from someone else's account was relevant only because I was naming names, and in the end I can't be sure which one of them was behind this.

It's not just mgb's privacy, it's also about the doctor. Who repeatedly denied me the permission to post the conversation here when I asked. Presumably because he does, indeed, have something to hide.
If it were all just speculation, as he said, he shouldn't have much of a problem in explaining it.
And as it is, I'm not posting it until I get the arcade installed at nebulous and can get banned from here.

Not really. But put a few NTs that understand technology in charge and we can get creative in dealiong with the data we're given, for tracking and blocking annoying bs: Trolls.
The feature list is public. If you've got specific questions on what we use and how, then ask. I'd be interested in learning.
We can't read PMs. If something was leaked, it's simply because someone made the decision to do so.

Damn, how did I miss this post yesterday.
It's not just mgb's privacy, it's also about the doctor. Who repeatedly denied me the permission to post the conversation here when I asked. Presumably because he does, indeed, have something to hide. The conversation that you are referring to are pm's that were written by two mods in which we discussed a modbox thread. It would be wholly irresponsible of me to produce that type of exchange in public, and would negate the need for both 'Private' messages, and 'Private' discussions about management issues. The only privacy issue that is at hand is the fact that you have, in your possession, 'Private Messages' that I did not give permission for you to have.
If it were all just speculation, as he said, he shouldn't have much of a problem in explaining it.I offered to explain the 'Private' messages to you personally. I am sorry, but that is the best I can do in this situation. However, I believe if anyone needs an explanation it would have been mg. And until he asks, or permits me to discuss it with you, I will not. Again, sorry.
And as it is, I'm not posting it until I get the arcade installed at nebulous and can get banned from here.I hope you are not serious. Because, in my opinion, you would be a loss to the site.

He actually posted photographic evidence in the Modbox of you trying to woo some ESFJ. No way he's a spy? Don't be so sure of yourself, guy.

Spy that he is, he seems to have deflected attention to others and snuck back into the shadows. Probably a wise decision unless he wants to get pwnt more.

Man, and people call me egotistical. Classic statussing a thread about yourself!? Listen, I'll agree to the Classic status of this thread, if you and everyone else agree that the title should be changed to, Dr. Haight eats soy? I keep reading "spy" as "soy" anyway, but Dr. Haight is a Soy just doesn't quite make as much sense.
Then again, Mac's wicked burn on bergenski WAS awfully good. Anyway, in the meantime, I'd just like to say:

Dr. Haight is heero's robot. I'm sure he can do as he pleases. I have always been weary of heero too.
It's basically just a club of false prestiege. Something I was hoping to combat by volunteering myself as a mod. I would have probably just did as raincrow did though, because there is no hope here anymore.
It's just a flaw in any society, to stop thinking for yourself, when a majority of people (usually influenced by a group of people who are in power) tell you what is right and wrong.
I am glad I wasn't voted for by many people here now. It's nothing personal, it's just that I was looking for an excuse to further withdrawl from the world.

... and all this time I thought the mods and the government were reading all our posts and threads. HUGE disappointment to think not...
Writing with Mods supervision is like having an adult there to remind you not to run with scissors.
Bottom line, if you are foolish enough to write something incriminating or derogatory, some devious and ill mannored fool will take the time to dig it up and find it and attempt to skew it to their own maniachal advancement ends.
Uh... yeah.
And when it happens, the only one you can responsibly blame is yourself anyhow--and say "D'oh".
Dr. Haight, you appear fair minded and level in everything I have ever read by you... and even if you are a spy, I still like you.
Dr. Haight = 007 for better or for worse still the good doctor, and I trust you.

The clarity though which you have observed this matter is accurate, sincere, and brilliantly constructed.
Clearly, you are wise beyond your years.
You know...from what I can tell anyways

I'm not sure about the 007 reference for Haight though. For some reason, when I think of spies and the good doctor, I always picture Inspector Gadget. <shrug>

I love inspector gadget, I think. Whot I remember. Get Smart?, rahly, you SO underestimate yourself. That guy isn't even cute AND my mom liked him. ugh.
I liked Columbo and whot's his name , you know, the ocd guy -- oh, Monk. They're cute. 007 reminds me of someone on here who is inane, vapid, superficial, and YES -- NOT sexy. I rarely wasted my time on that drivel.
I do, however, waste alot of my time on you. Cuz you're cute and extremely rational (intelligent).
So, who are you spying on again? whot thread, whot topic? oh.

So, who are you spying on again? whot thread, whot topic? oh.Hovering over the forum is my job.
So the answer to your question depends on the circumstances that are presented to me. In most cases, the answer is that I watch for spammers, duplicate accounts, and those that like to troll now and again - keep in mind that we have about ten spammers make it through the automatic screening process on a daily basis and we try to spot them, ban them, and otherwise keep them out of the main forum.
Back to the poll: A list of spy's ranging from competent to incompetent would be a nice start.
Hermione

Exactly. Sorry, I didn't mean to overlook teh job at hand,
(no i'm not going to make that inane joke -- for the moment).
And you know i'm not good at 'main idea' , central topic. [not really whining, just stating the most obvious].
Can't I just analyze it to death , you know, something not requiring original thawt? Figuring out my whole life is freaking original thawt. This is where i take vacation from that -- so, We get Edahn to do it, right??
He should be able to take a break between babes for this one little poll favor.
Maybe I'll p.m. him that I need teh poll favor? Only for you, haight.

I want McGee (McGeek) from N.C.I.S. in here.
And the hot guy from Criminal Minds, too, whot's his name-- young blond kinda longish hair, possibly british import.. (I'll go look it up.) Two hotties and nerds, to boot = extreme competency.
edit..

The PMs are stored in a database.
The database needs an administrator.
The administrator of the database can see every data that is stored in it (that means PMs too).
Deleting the out of date PMs does not ensure that no backup remains somewhere...
So since technically the admin is able to read PMs it's best to assume that he does indeed.
Also, there must be a log of IP adresses too.
(Well unless the PMs were stored in a crypted form that'd be deciphered on the fly using your (also hashed) password as the key - which is highly unlikely :))
