There is an element in the leadership of the military-industrial-congressional complex that realizes we need a strategic enemy in order to justify the enormous cost(and profits) of the weapons needed to fight them( high tech/space based etc ).
With the demise of the soviet/commies another enemy has to be found - China.

There will be a "war" between China and the West, but it will be the war of the economies, and China will win. Why on earth would China risk a real war when it knows it'll win by following the rules of the game?
