They probably don't have CD players. :p

(I guess that'd just add to the hilarity.)

Maybe. Amish tend to be a little liberal with their children; maybe it is that they expect them to experience the horrors or modern society so they are ready to reject it when they come of age and are expected to carry on the traditions of their elders.

I don't really understand it that well. I just remember that where I was going to college, if you smelled the stink of sweating bodies that never knew the touch of deodorant, saw a bunch of bicycles, or almost stepped in a pile of horse shit in the parking lot of the local Sheetz, it was probably because young Amish were coming to town to order sandwiches off of a touchscreen.

That's really a shame. I wonder why someone did it?

Some Amish communities desire for their children once they reach adolescence to start deciding for themselves. Despite their rather strict system of beliefs, they respect that it's a decision their children need to make on their own when they mature.

Just goes to show not all fundamentalists brainwash.

Or it could be an unconcious attempt to draw some new blood into their community. Everybody tends to be second cousins with everybody else in Amishland.

That's true too. It's interesting that you characterized it as an unconcious attempt. Do you think it enters into the concious level at all?

Heh.

I expected something of the sort after the CO incident.
