In context with this thread (http://forums.intpcentral.com/showthread.php?t=15513), I thought it would be a good idea to start up a flirting thread where all, more or less socially handicapped INTPs, can practice their flirting skills safely in each others company. Without running the risk of being hurt or ridiculed by potential objects of desire IRL. It would be nice if our relatively better socially skilled E and F members would participate and perhaps evaluate our attempts to appear attractive to the opposite sex (or own, depending on our personal preferences) as we go along.
We have allready received excellent input from what seems to be an experienced performer in the art of flirting:
:joft:
i have deduced the (evolutionarily inspired) purpose of the activity known as flirting, and i think it may prove helpful in your situation. i'll leave the specifics of learning exactly what flirting is and how to do it up to you
the point is, you drop gestures/comments/actions which can be interpreted as romantic/sexual interest, but are, to a degree, ambiguous. this allows you to deny that any such thing was intended in case the interest isn't mutual. this allows you to not lose face (maybe even in front of other potential mates) if your advances are rejected, because, oh! you thought they were advances! oh i'm sorry, i didn't meant it that way, but now i see how that must have sounded! ho ho
I understand why me being the first poster, may create a problem for the next poster if he/she don't find me the least bit attractive. However, someone has to post after me to get this thread going so here is a random image from the sexiest women thread (http://forums.intpcentral.com/showthread.php?t=7368)which you can project on to me.

Hustler Quote: I heard he likes Danish girls.
Now if he hadn't mentioned the hot pocket/bed, that would have been a nice piece of gossip from a friend. You would take the temperature for him and return to him with my reaction. Which is:

Nono, he just likes Danishes.
And let me just add that I've been mightily aware of the ambiguous nature of flirtation that was mentioned for many years, but that doesn't help me implement such a policy. Often during my youth, I would have the best success when I didn't even realize I was engaged in flirtation. If I actively tried it, I got nowhere, oft with a handprint on my face.
My only advice to a guy who is in a similar situation to me: Get slapped. It's not that bad, and you'll find someone sooner or later who will smile instead.

From middle school on, I kept befriending (sometimes very) attractive young men who weren't at all my type, and then finding out they thought I had a crush on them because I was a "major flirt." No, I was just myself (prone to being weird and not shying away from suggestion if it's interesting or fun) and liked them and found them and wasn't intimidated at all.
When I actually like someone, here is my natural response: o_o

INTP - 'Hi, I couldn't help but notice you from across the room... and I just had to ask, do you know what one plus one equals?'
Victim - 'erm... two'
INTP - 'No, it equals less than three'
This chat up line works best over Instant Messenger, the INTPs natural flirting ground, where you can write:
INTP - I just had to ask you, what is 1 + 1?
Victim - erm... 2
INTP - No, 1 + 1 = <3

Most often, I go into silent shell shocked mode, unable to say a thing for quite some time if someone flirts, speaks or posts something for me. It really shocks me, unless its someone I'm really used to like my cubby neighbors, which I talk to often. So, if I don't respond to someones personal response thread, its not intended to be rude, just that stupid shock thing going on.
If I wanted to flirt, I'd write someone a private message and ask them something outright, that required action of some sort, with a direct statement, or give an honest felt compliment about something they did, but it wouldn't necessarily mean a response was required, just that I really thought something was cool or interesting.
The minute I find myself smitten with someone, and tell them, is the minute I know I'd better not say anything, so I can't just outright flirt.

Geoff! Wow! It's been a long time! Nice to see you again. Yeah, I was keeping my INFP self out, since this was an INTP effort. And I must say that I really, really have been missing you.

Oh my adorable Hustler. To sweep into your warm embrace would be not just a dream but heaven. Your very words have crossed that vast abyss and conveyed such tepid longing that my very soul has been deeply stirred.
tepid, lukewarm (http://wordnet.princeton.edu/perl/webwn?o2=&o0=1&o7=&o5=&o1=1&o6=&o4=&o3=&s=lukewarm) (feeling or showing little interest or enthusiasm) "a halfhearted effort"; "gave only lukewarm support to the candidate"

this thread makes my heart smile. i am amused.
i think Rhu's got the idea. whether obvious or not, feigning naivete is a good way to feel out whether it's friendliness or flirting. the downside (especially for guys) is that if you go to far with it, your subject will give up, deciding you're stupid. which, of course, is ironic.
your other option would be to simply befriend them, and see where it goes. of course, that requires patience (damnit).
oh, and i think "flirt harder / i'm an intp" would make an awesome shirt. in fact, i may just make one for myself. heh heh heh...
i think it's funny though, i can see the flaws in what all of you are saying, yet i know i could do no better myself.

Aww. You think he's feigning naivete. That's cute.

Where do babies come from?
Well, the stork comes late at night, bearing a precious bundle.
Of flowers and booze. Then he fucks your mom while your dad's sleeping.

Floid!!!!! Your analytical prowess and sensual implicitness is creating a luminescent fluttering in my heart.

How dare you accuse my momma of drinking!

*cough* so let my clarify my thought process a bit.
"feign naievete" to the end of: 1) they believe it and try a little harder, be a little more obvious. 2) they simply play along.
sorry i didn't really qualify number 2 before. i forget half of my thoughts as a go along. makes communicating even semi-complex ideas a lot of fun.

The lunar pallor of your visage, the full crimson inflorescence of your lips, and the wild eyed passion of your gaze sends a thrill of sensuous chill through the calm waters of my imperturbable mind, and stirs there, in deeply felt ripples, reciprocal echoes of your initial grandiloquence

It's for him. Male sobriety is your mom's best form of birth control.
