so it's that time of the year again.. I joined okcupid to try and 'meet' someone again.
so far I have sent 18 messages out(to different ppl)
my message consisted of this:

hello e-person.

my name is Clayton, how are you?

so far I have not developed a successful relationship with anyone I've met from the web but "maybe" this time will be different(haha).

Place your bets on the ppl you think I will meet in real life..

greetings martian...

i'm tired as shit, i was out late last night. i'm at work, it's 8:26 am. so what were you procrastinating? where do you work?
-me
wordcount: 28
I was procrastinating working on a web project. I'm a programmer for a business startup. The reason I am procrastinating is because it is no longer challenging and since it is no longer challenging it has become extremely difficult to focus on something which is so easy(it's like I"m taking a really long math test and all the math questions are 2+2 or 3+3). Where do you work?
wordcount: 68
i work at an e-commerce place called digital river. i know exactly how you feel. that's one of my weaknesses, after i know something so well i get bored. i usually can't keep a job for more than 3 months unless the money is good or there are cool people
wordcount: 50
I've written an ecommerce app before(web-based)-- could've been done better if the clients weren't so cheap though. what do you do at Digital River? what has kept you there so far? did you go to college? I did 4 semesters at a community college, I didn't enjoy it.
wordcount: 48
well i'm the call center girl for online orders and dl help. i just started so i've yet to get to my 3 month mark. but i plan to stay, they pay well and promote from within. i tried to go to community college, but i dropped out. i only went to stay on my parent's insurance and i hated it, i'm a horrible student. so i quit and now i'm working full time. but yeah, i dunno. i'm at work now, and i'm bored and tired and cold. but hopefully, it'll get better :) so what's up with you today?
wordcount: 101
what is "dl help" ? I also went to the community college to enjoy the 'benefit' of being on my parents insurance but now I am paying for my own health insurance instead(actually, I'd rather not being pay for it since I feel like I don't "need" it but maybe I'll get in a car accident).

> i'm bored and tired and cold.
I work in a basement, so I know what that's like. I have a mini-heater(when it heats up it looks like the inside of a toaster) thing I bought from a garage sale more than a year ago which I've been using a lot recently.

> so what's up with you today?
well, my employer is looking at hiring some new people. The company's two most important ppl are me and my boss(the company is really small, my boss and I work the most and then there are some ppl who do contract work). so that goes back to what I'm doing today, there is a meeting at 7pm with a potential new hire who sounds promising. my boss already talked with him for an hour on the phone(and then I joined the phone conversation and said some words). I also just woke up. Recently I've tried to get a little more into cooking, I wish I had more time to focus on it. So far my 'specialties' are pancakes/rice+chicken+egg+srirachi sauce/spaghetti+room temperature spaghetti sauce-- they're all pretty bland actually but it's a start.
so you live in St. Paul? What part? I am actually living with my parents(in Shoreview) since my job isn't exactly paying that much. My job is in Roseville. How long have you lived in MN? I've been here since the summer of 2000.

-Clayton

"what is "dl help" ?"
i help the idiots who buy downloadable software online download their software. for some reason they think " so what if i don't really know how to use a computer, i'll buy online and download it, then call somebody up and waste their time instead of just going to the store" it's a riot.
"maybe I'll get in a car accident."
now you're doomed...you're definately not getting in an accident now.
so are you hiring anyone? what positions are you looking for?
i cook. my specialties are pasta (any kind except alfredo) chicken, potatoes and tacos. i cook and eat out a lot, but i find myself now just sick of food completely. i'm tired of taking time out of my day to feed myself.
i've lived in minnesota all my life. i lived in blaine until i was seven then we moved to lakeville. i'm don't actually live in st. paul, but i went to highschool there and know the area fairly well. (my job is in eden prairie, did i mention that?)
i used to have a friend that lived in shoreview, now he has his own place in st. louis park.
today, tomorrow and friday are my days off so i'm going over to his house for an early x-mas celebration.
do you have any special plans for x-mas?
-Franke
wordcount: 228
> so are you hiring anyone?
yes

> what positions are you looking for?
programmers/web developers. luckily my current co-worker(I only have one), said he got another job. He was a slow programmer.

> i cook and eat out a lot, but i find myself now just sick
> of food completely. i'm tired of taking time out of my day
> to feed myself.
Eating out is "okay" but I've found it makes me shit more, and it costs more. I used to buy the frozen dinners from the grocery store but they weren't exactly appetizing and seemed a little bland and low quality.. anyway, the main reasons for cooking myself are-- I have little cooking experience so it would actually be good if I learned to cook and the other reason is cost.

> my job is in eden prairie, did i mention that?
you haven't.. until now. I believe I've only been to Eden Prairie once [I don't remember why]..

> today, tomorrow and friday are my days off so i'm going
> over to his house for an early x-mas celebration.
boyfriend? bestfriend/friend?

> do you have any special plans for x-mas?
No plans except wasting money on "gifts from the heart"[gift cards] for my sister/mom/dad.
I believe I actaully worked on christmas day last year.. holidays don't particularly interest me. I will probably work this christmas to-- actually, very likely I will since I have a key to the place[cough, hopefully that doesn't make me seem like a loser].

-Clayton
wordcount: 255
yeah it's much cheaper to make food yourself. it's really not that hard, you just need a few good recipes to follow and you're set. look on the internet for 'em. also: food always tastes better fresh.
boyfriend? bestfriend/friend?
good friend. i've known him for 5 years now. i really only see him once a month or so...
[cough, hopefully that doesn't make me seem like a loser].
well, it depends on what your definition of loser. but in my opinion, it just makes you a workaholic, which doesn't seem loser-ish to me.
i work on x-mas too, no big deal, i don't really care. my favorite holiday is halloween...SO much more fun.
about the lowbrow thing. i keep a collection of the ones that i think are "quality" my word document is about 20 pages. the website is amazing!
-Franke
wordcount: 141
> yeah it's much cheaper to make food yourself. it's really > not that hard, you just need a few good recipes to follow > and you're set.
...I should get less bland recipes. mmm

> food always tastes better fresh.
I don't like re-heating food, it just seems to degrade the quality.

> good friend. i've known him for 5 years now. i really only
> see him once a month or so...
one of my "best friends" I see 0 - 1 times a week. I think he feels guilty about not hanging out..but I am indifferent about it.

> well, it depends on what your definition of loser. but in
> my opinion, it just makes you a workaholic, which doesn't
> seem loser-ish to me.
ding, that is me. this job isn't just some 9 - 5 bullshit. It is something that will hopefully become profitable but if that is not the case then I will chalk it up as a learning experience.

> i work on x-mas too, no big deal, i don't really care. my
> favorite holiday is halloween...SO much more fun.
what do you like about Halloween? when I think of Halloween, I think of cheap plastic pumpkins and crappy horror flicks. there are some elements that are interesting though, "scaring people", "fear", etc.

> about the lowbrow thing. i keep a collection of the ones
> that i think are "quality" my word document is about 20
> pages. the website is amazing!
Have you ever been to http://grouphug.us/ ? it is more for 'confessions' which makes it slightly different from lowbrow... it's more much whiny.

do you have any plans for christmas? new years? or anything?
have you bought gifts for all the people you know?
how did the thing go with your friend?

-clayton
wordcount: 305
>...I should get less bland recipes. mmm
all it really takes is mrs. dash and maybe a few other spices.

>I don't like re-heating food, it just seems to degrade the >quality.
i disagree, i think some food tastes better reheated. i currently have no examples but it definately doesn't include fries...

>one of my "best friends" I see 0 - 1 times a week. I >think he feels guilty about not hanging out..but I am >indifferent about it
as long as the time you spend together is quality, i don't think it matters how often you see eachother. (tear)

>It is something that will hopefully become profitable but >if that is not the case then I will chalk it up as a >learning experience.
not only that, but unlike some learning experiances, this one will look *good* on a resume...

>what do you like about Halloween?
>when I think of Halloween, I think of cheap plastic
>pumpkins and crappy horror flicks. there are some >elements that are interesting though, "scaring >people", "fear", etc.
i like dressing up, going to parties and drinking all weekend long. i like seeing the hell-arious costumes people come up with. i like the cheesey horror flicks and i like playing "scary" jokes on friends. not to mention there is no sappy underlining of the holiday...it's there for fun, just shits, giggles and quality entertainment

>Have you ever been to http://grouphug.us/ ? it is more >for 'confessions' which makes it slightly different from >lowbrow... it's more much whiny.
yes i've been there, i didn't like it. the format is a lot more complicated than just clicking "reload" over and over.
another good website is craiglist.com it has everything under the rainbow.

>do you have any plans for christmas?
on xmas day, i work then my family and i are going to a movie. then openeing our presents.

>new years?
i work on new years day, so i'll probably find some party have a few drinks and leave right after midnight.

>have you bought gifts for all the people you know?
i've bought gifts for everybody except my mom dad and brother, which i need to do on wednesday.

>how did the thing go with your friend?
it was a lot of fun, we just hung out. he really liked his gift so that was cool.

what about you? xmas or new years plans? anything new and/or exciting and/or extremely bland in your life?

-Frankus
wordcount: 409

what is 'mrs. dash', or is that a figure of speech.. ?

> as long as the time you spend together is quality,
> i don't think it matters how often you see
> eachother. (tear)
sometimes it is 'quality.' He recently introduced me to 'Magic the Gathering' which he was introduced to by one of his frat brothers, then when we hung out he told me all about it. When I was younger, I wasn't allowed to play it because my parents are essentially fundamentalist christians [I also wasn't allowed to watch The Simpsons(although I was able to convince them The Simpsons was 'okay' at some point) or Power Rangers, woe is me]-- my parents are fairly laid back except for a few 'ungodly' things. Now that I'm older and the opportunity has come up for me to play Magic, it piqued my interest. I would loosely compare playing Magic to playing a computer game [I don't play computer games though]. I bought a deck and I played him a couple times. Due to the relative low cost of playing, I will probably play more and maybe invest in another deck(around $11).

> not only that, but unlike some learning experiances, this
> one will look *good* on a resume...
yeah, I've invested a lot of time into this company.. Ideally this company will become successful then get sold off so my boss and I can start another company[he is more business savvy while I am more computer savvy].

> i like dressing up, going to parties and drinking all
> weekend long. i like seeing the hell-arious costumes
> people come up with.
I'm not easily impressed with most costumes. I've done some mild crossdressing(not on Halloween), so in that respect 'dressing up' can be fun.

> i like the cheesey horror flicks
I haven't really seen that many cheesy horror flicks but I doubt it would pique my interest. Although I bet making a cheesy horror flick might interest me. There is one semi-interesting horror flick that I haven't but was curious about it, Ankle Biters:
http://www.yorkentertainment.com/pages/newreleases/2003/o_anklebitters.shtml

> and i like playing "scary" jokes on friends.
what sort of "scary" jokes?

> not to mention there is no sappy underlining of the
> holiday...
it is preperation for Thanksgiving and Christmas... or at least that's what it feels like.

> yes i've been there, i didn't like it. the format is a lot
> more complicated than just clicking "reload" over and
> over.
If you go here all you have do is hit refresh on your browser:
http://grouphug.us/random

> another good website is craiglist.com it has everything
> under the rainbow.
I've heard of craglist and was linked to it when someone I know was going to move to California and was looking for a roommate.

> on xmas day, i work then my family and i are going to a
> movie. then openeing our presents.
which movie?

> it was a lot of fun, we just hung out. he really liked his
> gift so that was cool.
I'm not going to get my "best friend" a christmas gift. I don't think he'll mind and he probably isn't getting me anything.

> what about you? xmas or new years plans?
No plans... I am open to do stuff with people but I don't exactly have a long list of friends.

> anything new and/or exciting and/or extremely bland
> in your life?
recently I've beening using a software called 'Brainwave Generator' -- here is the website:
http://www.bwgen.com/
Click on 'state of mind' to understand a bit more about it.
After I was able to 'obtain' the full version I wrote a script to download all of the 'presets' from their preset library(http://www.bwgen.com/presets.htm). The main ones that I am interested are the sleep ones and the focusing ones. I have a hard time focusing at work since it can get a little too repetitious. The sleep ones I tried have worked out well so far. I also turn on the 'visual effect' for the sleep one to make it a little more interesting (colors flashing on the screen). It all seems a little sci-fi but it seems to work...
and.. I made tacos today.. it was alright.. I also woke up around 3 or 4 in the morning and brushed my car off. Yesterday I spent 10 - 20mins scraping the ice off my car. Winter has finally arrived.

What motivates this, file cabinet?I'm not sure if it is desperation or at least to feel like I'm trying to meet a female.. I don't have any social circles or any real friends so it boils to me either trying to find someone on the net or not all.

I just went by replies...useyourpalm looks the most promising because she contacted you in return, hasn't taken her profile down and as far as we know you haven't made out with anyone she knows (that must be a real kick in the ass because illumiiinate seems promising).yeah. just have to wait and see what happens. My previouses e-approaches have been to try and meet ppl and being a little more direct but that hasn't really worked that well so now I am taking a much more casual approach and keep my expectations really really really low.

I updated my main post with more replies.

Also, a comment, I've tried a couple different webpersonal services.. and it is funny when you see the same ppl(because they use the same picture) on the various services.. nothing wrong with that, I just wish they would update their pictures so I wouldn't recognize them.

Hey there, filecabinet!

We thought you might be interested to hear that through the rigors of heavy mathematical computation, statistics, and just a smidgeon of intuition, we've managed to determine who your perfect soulmate is, this week.

As part of our ongoing What-The-Hell site expansion campaign, we've programmed a new toy: The Stranger Arranger. It's a weekly matchup of just about EVERY single person on OkCupid. The person you're matched with is ALSO matched with you. It is your duty to explore and message them.

You'll only get this notification once, so check weekly.

Your current match is: girlgreer

In your absence, zwirr tried to send you 1 instant message. Here's the transcript:

zwirr (/profile?tuid=15923183740461219339): I think you look like the older version of raggedy andy

You can reply to this message directly to send them mail.my reply:
is that a good thing?
I did sew a hole in my pants recently...
what kind of art do you?
hehehehe
I dunno.
so... why did you send me a message in the first place?
Well, because I wanted to.
I didn't know someone would have such a huge problem with it. You didn't HAVE to reply..................... ;)
true, no one else has IM'd me on okcupid though. sorry for sounding harsh but your message just seemed to lack any substance so I wasn't sure why you contacted me at all.. in fact, I should be greatful because I know the male-to-female ratio is clearly not in my favor[I'm not trying to sound sarcastic].
so this morning I spent 10 - 20mins scraping ice off my car.. winter truly has arrived. did you hear about the accident(s) on 394? .. then I bought a gift certificate for the Pottery Barn for my mom[her xmas present].

-c
jeesh. ok so I write short and sweet emails!
lalala.
You shouldn't talk to me either, if you're only talking to me because there are far more men on here than women.
I have to scrap ice off of my car too.
I need to finish shopping
my mom would not like a gift cert to the pottery barn. she's.. weird.
> You shouldn't talk to me either, if you're only talking
> to me because there are far more men on here than women.
well, there are other reasons such as your picture being making you appear presentable..

> my mom would not like a gift cert to the pottery barn.
> she's.. weird.
yeah, it was very weird going into the Pottery Barn store since I had never been into one[it was down on Grand Ave, although there are 2 other locations in MN].

On the weekend I bought christmas gifts for my dad and sister as well.. they were also gift certicates. getting a certificate is in some ways tacky but I don't know wtf else to get them. It was horrible trying to find a parking spot in a busy lot, I was worried I'd hit someone[or someone would hit me].
explain presentable?

The other day I saw a girl on here that was 16 wearing clothing that showed off her goods.. sick!
um I bought some gift certs too, (3 of them) but I also bought them other stuff too.. they're so impersonal but they work better!

whats up.
you have nice teeth
> explain presentable?
you could be my 'type' physically but then there is always the personality which is another matter.. but a picture only says so much.

> The other day I saw a girl on here that was 16 wearing
> clothing that showed off her goods.. sick!
I don't look at pictures of people who are of the same sex on okcupid..

> whats up.
I've been awake since some time last night so I'll probably be heading to bed soon.. I am allowed to show up to work whenever I want so I never set my alarm and just go in after I wakeup.

> you have nice teeth
I sure hope so... I had braces ages ago. I also brush my teeth regularly.. what about your teeth, do you have nice teeth?
so you're in college? what sort of degree are you going for? my boss talks a lot of marketing talk. what sort of work would you want to do in advertising? what does zwirr mean?
Hi.
yes I have nice teeth.
When I was little I only got one of my eye-teeth in (the one next to your front teeth) so when I got older, they pulled the other one, gave me braces, reshaped and bonded my teeth and now they're all pretty and normal looking.
I woke up at 11:54 minus 21 minutes. Figure that one out.

I love drew carey!
> I woke up at 11:54 minus 21 minutes. Figure that one out.
so you woke up at 11:33am ?.. or am I confused? I am pretty sure I woke up around 6pm last night after a 5 hour nap.

> I love drew carey!
I don't really watch tv that often anymore but I used to watch Drew Carey a couple years ago. I enjoyed some of the crude humor.

your profile says you have 2 tattoos, what are they and what do they represent? I will be heading to bed now, have a good nite/day.

i'm grand. and you?
well, I've settled down for the day.. although I have some 'work' priorities I should focus on. I am a programmer.. what sort of job do you have? or are you in college or doing something else?
I don't have a job, it's not my thing. And i might be going to college next fall. but, Who knows? i might change my mind. I suppose i should because it'll be free. but meh. Anything i could learn in college i could learn all on my own.
The only job worth having is the one where you get paid to do what you enjoy. I took four semesters at a college, I didn't enjoy it, now I am working for a business startup and everything I've had to learn(I am a programmer), I've had to learn via the web. Programming is something I want to do so I've taken the necessary steps to learn it, but of course if I tried to learn something I didn't have a personal interest in it would probably bore me.
is there anything you want to do?

Hi,
You've met me before you used to makeout with my roommate (divulge). So yah, I'm not interested. No reply needed, but an explaination for you readers.. I met 'divulge' through okcupid several months ago and fooled around with her a bit.. I wasn't physically attracted to her(she actually looked like one of my male cousins which started to repulse me, she did have a good personality though)

ah, i wish i could find humanity once again.

nice to meet you Clayton, I am fine. tired, but okay.
why do you wish you could find humanity? are you sure it's worth looking for?
I'm sure answers are worth finding out.
How's it going?
well, I was in a slump a couple days ago due to some of my work tasks..but things have gotten a little better. What are you going for in college? I went to a community college for four semesters but now I'm doing something I enjoy instead(programming).
cool thing. i have a few friends who like that stuff.
it's good that you enjoy it. it should have to be one feeling that you have while working.
i'm going for my AAS in medical massage.
It's a two year and then i can transfer and get a bachelors degree in biology or something. then i can go for chiropractic! yay!
I never took biology in high school(I moved around a bit during high school) so I somehow missed biology. Hopefully I didn't miss too much. I heard about a guy who started his own chiropractic business using student loans. what is the appeal of that field? the money? or is it something you enjoy? I would probably go back to school if this job doesn't pan out.
well,

chiropractic is definitely something i am interested in.
although i haven't found that passion, it is something for now. i've always been fascinated with the human body though. but there are many things that interest me so.

well i hope everything does work out for you.
There are a lot of jobs that relate the human body in some way/shape/form so I'm sure you'll find your passion. Your profile mentions that you have three jobs, isn't that stressful? My job is _extremely_ flexible. I don't even have to set my alarm clock. I just come in whenever then leave when I'm done (my sleep schedule reflects this).
what college are you going?
that sounds like fun, a flexible schedule.
i used to have one of those, now it's down to part time though. that's work in the pharmacy
if the massage place that i worked at only had appointments made for me to come in, that would be flexible as well.
and as for my last job, i'm a receptionist at a law office, and normally i would get to go whenever i want. but i usually stay until one in the afternoon.
i go to the st paul college. it's okay.
so you live in St. Paul? what part? I still live at my parents(in Shoreview) until my pay becomes a little more reasonable. I usually only come home to sleep though. My job is in Roseville. How long have you lived in MN? I've leaved here since the summer of 2000. do you have AIM?

-Clayton
no i live in new brighton, about ten minutes from shoreview. i have a friend who lives in shoreview.
yea i live with my parents as well, except they're making me pay four hundred a month, i'm thinking about moving to florida soon. that might be interesting.
i've lived in minnesota for about seven years now.
i used to have aim until i didn't. heh helpful.
my parents don't make me pay anything. all I do is sleep there anyway. I use AIM partially because we use it communicate at work, although I use Gaim which can connect to most if not all the IM services out there. I know a guy that moved to Florida because he was having problems with ppl in MN, then he moved back because he started having problems there, guess some individuals carry more drama with them then others.
yea, i use to have a gaim account, then it deemed me unworthy, thus i no longer have it.
i have a friend just like that.
except he moved to california for a few months because he got into problems here, then he had problems living there and he moved back. he's doing a lot better now. but he's still somewhat of a bum. *shrug* you can only do so much.
I got a stranger arranger match but she hasn't logged in since Nov 27. bummer about that. also, if you're bored maybe you would want to read this:
http://forums.intpcentral.com/showthread.php?t=1577
maybe it will give you a good laugh or not, I don't really care.

That's interesting.
So you devoted a website to your relationships in cyber space? You must have some time on your hands!
Whereas I am pitifully busy with work all the time. I may have to work tomorrow on Christmas. Sucks.
I am so sore though. I worked at my other two jobs yesterday and that was tiring, put the whole being sick in and you have a disaster.
I don't want to work anymore. :(
Do you know of any jobs that pay you to sit around? lol.

Well, I better see what's going on.
Talk to you later

G'day
Pa
I did not devote a website to it, I devoted a single thread to it. Have you been to a forum before? A forum is a collection of threads and posts.

> You must have some time on your hands!
the majority of it is copy/paste.. I wouldn't consider that taking a lot of time.

> Whereas I am pitifully busy with work all the time.
> I may have to work tomorrow on Christmas. Sucks.
me too but I like my job(sort of..).

> Do you know of any jobs that pay you to sit around? lol.
not really.. I work in a basement. My job has a lot of flexibility(business startup, things are looking on the up-and-up.. sort of...).. there are downsides though.

I've "been" to a forum for an internet class, I guess that counts right?
I actually got to take Christmas off, which is really nice, but boring. Didn't do much. meh...
What did you do?

indeed it does!

a day to take a break.. we all need that..

> What did you do?
christmas eve.. I woke up, came to work for a bit but someone was at work who I wasn't excepting so I was pretty mad about that(cleared it up later with my boss-- I am very rarely angry about anything at all but shit happens..).
at some point I left to go to a 'christmas eve service.' I am not religious but my parents tend to be.. after the service my family and I went to some peoples house for dinner(people I didn't know except one guy who I ironically sort of knew from the web back in high school from a web forum). the people were nice, they told some interesting stories and the sister of the husband was there and she seemed to be staring/gawking at me. After I noticed she was looking at me she commented out loud about my curly hair and how great it looks and how much she loves curly hair-- to be honest, I was a little worried about what else was going through her mind besides my curly hair.
After the dinner I hung out with a friend. He was at his grandma's for a couple days(he lives with his grandma since his mom is dead, and his dad is a bit of a loser and I think is in prison). He attends Hamline university and is a part of a fraternity which he had to pay to join, how absurd is that.. so anyway, after I pick him we go to the frat house. He and I were going to play some Magic the Gathering (something I've only recently started playing). The frat house was locked.. the person who was supposed to be there was at work(presumably) and the other frat people were home for the holidays. My friend has been trying to quit smoking but he asked that we go to the gas station so he could buy cigarettes. I know he wants to quit but any sort of addiction is difficult to handle. He picked up the cigarettes then when I was going to be turning left, a guy at the corner asked if I could drive him down the road, but we were going the other direction..
Soon, we arrived at our next destination which was Cheap-o discs down on Snelling Ave. Main reason for this was so my friend could get out and smoke(I have a no smoking sign in my car..) I wondered into the store and sampled some of the tunes on the machines(it didn't sound promising). I was in the electronica section and was looking through the CD's.
My eyes passed over the plastic divider label that said 'Tiki Obmar' -- an artist I had heard on Radio K many months ago and had actually googled and looked up but I believe I found very little information since I didn't spell it correctly... so I purchased the CD for 13.99 and left with my friend and we went back to his grandma's place.
we played some cards then he asked me "Do you ever wonder what it would be like to be with a guy?" and I said 'Sort of' .. he said he was gay a couple months ago and I was okay with it but I am pretty sure he has a crush on me which makes it a little awkward. I think I probably 'flirt' with him unintentionally. I am fairly sure I prefer females so I doubt I will be experimenting with him at all-- I have no issues with gay people. I've gone to a gay bar with a guy. The bar had a pretty good atmosphere but I didn't feel any impending sense that I should be with a guy. Some of the guys at the bar actually gave me some attention which was a little peculiar to me since I rarely get that type of attention(from male or female).
Also, we listened to Tiki Obmar which was alright. They're a local artist made up of 3 guys.. they have one other CD which can be ordered online. I'm not sure how to describe the style, it's something you would have to listen to yourself. With one word I would describe it as 'mellow.'
I left my friend and came back to work for a couple hours(I had to write some code to parse some files, I think, I can't remember).. then I drove home to go to sleep.
Now on Christmas day I woke up after 6 hours of sleep, 9:50am. My mom was making some sort of brunch(with eggs benedict). After eatting we soon opened presents. I received some misc stuff, I'm not really 'big' on holidays-- the one thing I received which I have no use for was a calendar(knowing what the date is more of something which needs to be known on a need-to-know basis, as in, "what's the date today?" then ask someone about it). I bought my mom a gift certificate to Pottery Barn, my sister a gift certificate for Barnes & Nobles and for my dad a gift certificate for Mens Wearhouse.
Of the gifts I received the most useful was the 'Cooking Basics for Dummies' so I spent a couple hours and looked through it. I've been trying to get into cooking lately so I will hopefully be referencing that a lot...
then I came to work for a bit then my boss' brother was here and drove us to see the movie Ocean's 12-- wasn't any good.. then we came back, now I am here typing this reply which I didn't except to be very long but it seems a little lengthy. Have you ever met anyone from the web? what do you use okcupid for? would you want to meet? My feelings won't be hurt if you say no. I'm going to bed, good night.

I don't know what your profile is...but a few years ago I met some people online (don't ask me how it went I don't want to get you down) and my profile was just a funny story about fly-fishing and me fencing a Canada Goose. I got a ton of people contacting me, more than the regular old profile.

I also updated my post to find out who has[or has not] logged in and not replied. it says when the person last logged in their profile. so the majority(50%) have logged in, seen my message and not replied.. interesting.

I am having trouble deciding how I should broach the topic of, "do you have AIM?" or "we should hangout, let's go to such-and-such a place" .. "would you be interested in communicating over the phone instead of over the internet?" .. I'm guessing I should ask for AIM first, then if she doesn't have AIM, I should say, "how about talking over the phone?" .. mmm..

Maybe I would just offer up your AIM address first. She might say no I don't have that I do have this or how do you set it up.

The hangout should come later, same with the phone. I think a lot of people (girls) are scared to give a lot of contact info out because there are some weirdos out there. If you are getting a good vibe from the replies send her your AIM first. Go from there.

As for the profile...how many characters do you get? They don't seem to give you a lot of room to manouver, kind of boring, its really just down to the business of meeting someone, takes away some of the quirky awkward online courtship.

I have no idea, I wasn't that interested in filling out the profile since there isn't much to say about me(or maybe there is and I just don't know how to say it).

I'll tell you my fly fishing story. Its kind of stupid, kind of funny, really self depricating. You can even use it if you want.

So I was fishing with my friend early in June. We were on the Bow River and it was a pretty nice day out. I am not a good fly fisherman by any mean, but it has its charms. We were walking back and there was this little island on the middle of the river. I was walking on the shore and I saw this goose swimming in the water but it was staying in one spot about 10 yards away from me. I walked a little closer and saw a nest to the left of the goose. I thought, "Ooo a nest." I had never seen one before. So I got a little closer to the nest. I saw an egg. "Ooo an egg." Never seen goose eggs either. That was when the goose started hissing. I didn't know what it was at first because I had no idea that geese hissed. They also have red tongues. Now I was stuck because I had to walk between the goose and the nest to get back. Luckily the goose made that easy for me by flying out of the water. Except the goose didn't go anywhere. It was a little windy out, windy enough to let the goose just hover in front of me about 5 yards away. I don't know if you have ever seen a goose flying up close, but they are big. I would say the wing span was about 6 feet across. And the hissing. This all happened very quickly and when I realized what was going on the goose swooped. I ducked. It was now hovering on the other side of me. That's when I pulled my fishing rod out and pointed it at the goose. I don't know if you have ever seen a fly fishing rod, but its not big, or dangerous. The goose thought so too and swooped again. I was slowly making my way past the nest though. I could already hear my friend laughing. One more swoop and weak jab with the rod and I was out of there. Never to check out a goose's nest again.

See its a little funny, not over the top, no animals were hurt, just my pride and quirky.

Does online dating really work? I'm not sold on the idea, and this thread makes it sound even less promising.

Don't get me wrong. I am an introvert. I dislike loud areas, I can't stand idle chatter, ya da ya da ya da.

But I'm not shy. Not really. I think one of the coolest things about being an INTP is not giving a damn what other people think. Like Professor Higgins from My Fair Lady said: "I treat a flower girl like a duchess and a duchess like a flower girl. The important thing, Eliza, is that you treat everyone the same." Rock on - it's that kind of NT hard-headedness that can give us the courage to face real social situations, not that I particularly enjoy them.

Um, I don't know how to put this. Look. . . A lot of we INTPs have latched onto the internet in a way its designers probably never foresaw. I remember when I first got a broadband connection in first-year university and found myself wishing, not long afterwards, that I could download food so I wouldn't have to leave my dorm room.

That being said, I'm not sold on the concept of online dating. . . I dunno, guys. It seems, to me, that one has to charge into the fray, somehow, and actually meet people in the flesh.

Has anyone actually experienced success with online dating? Maybe I'm totally out to lunch, here.

biff, I wish I had enough human friends to meet other females but I don't[I have one male friend I see 0 - 1 times a week]. Meeting females from the web would be ideal but it's not practical as my current and past 'results' have indicated.

I was successful at online dating but the end results of it were a dismal failure.

By that I mean that I met a lot of people but nothing in the world could prepare me for how bad things would go after I met them.

If File Cabinet wants to try it I wish him the best of luck, there are some good people on there and a lot of people have done really well by it. That was not my experience though.

I wish I had some statistical evidence to support my hunch that online dating is a waste of time. I can't be bothered to look right now, though. . .

I guess I have a different perspective because I'm not very introverted. I've always scored below 60% I in any test I've taken. I prefer being alone, and I hate the interruption that useless social interactions represent (finally, a local grocery store has automated checkout! Yes!). However, like I said before, I'm not shy.

I meet women all the time that I would ask out/try to get to know - that is, if I weren't already married. For me, "all the time" means about once a month, probably. This is fairly high, in my mind, considering how eccentric I am, and I am only attracted to people who I think are like me in some significant way.

Not too long ago, I ran into a highly attractive extraverted woman at the video store who recognized me from high school. She told me she was planning to apply to grad school, with the goal of getting her PhD in psychology. Neat! Very bright, very good looking, very friendly and warm. I've since seen her there any number of times. Definitely E-F-, probably ENFP from my impression of her.

Sometime after that, a woman at the pet store caught my attention. She was a total pet geek - I was confident she was an NT from the way she addressed the topic. I asked about pet rats, and she was more informative than an encyclopedia article on the subject. Her obvious enthusiasm (obsession?) for pet rodents shone through. I later overheard her chatting with another staff about whether he wanted to borrow her telescope to watch some astronomical phenomenon. Wicked! She later showed up in an English course my wife took: "Remember the girl from the pet store?" Cute, kinda intellectual red-headed NT chick - what more is one looking for?

In September, I got a job working for a company that cares for brain injured individuals. There are only a handful of men working here. If I were single, I would have certainly attended the Christmas dance. I worked one shift with an extraverted NF of either J or P persuasion; I was in love for a couple hours, but I got over it. My 28-year old attractive female boss is probably an INTJ, and sometimes she wanders through my mind, despite myself.

The world does not seem devoid of women, to me, and I make no effort to meet new people. I know, many of these women will already have boyfriends, but the single ones do come along. They only thing preventing them from showing up is if you literally are not meeting anyone.

> They only thing preventing them from showing up is if you literally are not meeting anyone.
ding, that is me. The only females I might see are ones I walk past at a store or a female ringing up my purchase.

part of the reason webpersonal sites are flawed is because of the male to female ratio.. example:

irc log from #intp:
17:53 +Spirilis> For shits and giggles, I created an alternate Yahoo account under a female's name, and created a personals profile with some pictures of some hot chick I used to know online a few years ago.
17:53 +Spirilis> I based it around another girl's profile who I found really nice-sounding
17:53 +Spirilis> i.e. used slightly similar structure to the wording, etc.
17:54 +Spirilis> In one day, this fake profile I created received 18 hits from guys around the area, some of which are ELABORATE emails.
17:54 +Arioch> hehe
17:54 +Spirilis> By comparison, my first week when I posted my personals profile, I got zilch.
17:54 +Spirilis> Maybe a "wink" from an uber fat girl or something
17:54 +Spirilis> I swear, the ratio of male:female on those sites must be at least 10:1and...
irc log from #intp:
21:41 +Spirilis> it's hard for the males to find females on those sites
21:41 +Spirilis> but it's easy for the females to find males
21:41 +fci> correct
21:41 +Spirilis> 'cause according to this friend girl I was mentioning, she and one of her guy friends did a couple experiments
21:42 +Spirilis> there are FAR more men than women on those sites, and most of the men are "pathetic" as she put it
21:42 +Spirilis> so the women are picky as HELL
21:43 +fci> mmm
21:45 +fci> I figure if I keep trying(off and on over long periods of time), something will eventually happen.. law of averages.. although time isn't infinite so ....

[I am the user with the nick fci]
