Is there any way to catch a private message and delete it before a recipient reads it?

if your PM is listed here you can delete it before it's read(I think):
http://forums.intpcentral.com/private.php?do=trackpm
is it really that bad?

I always decline the read receipt stuff if someone pm's me.. I find it annoying since I usually reply so it is irrelevant..

I also press cancel on the 'Request read Receipt?' option. Pointless for me.

I hate it when companies do that when they send me mail. I'll answer them when I'm good and ready, and they don't need to know for how long I'm letting it sit in my inbox :)

I just clicked 'OK' at the prompt, as in 'yeah, whatever'. If i'm super bored, i'll check if my PM has been read yet. The 'read reciept' system is not as good as phpBB2's PM system where the message sits in your outbox folder and is fully editable until the recipent reads it, at which point it goes into 'sent items'

A little off topic, but perhaps related, non-question:
Did you consider sending a brief second message, saying something that means, "Oops, sorry" - ?

No. I was either
1) Dwelling on the error too much, or
2) Looking at the most complex solutions first
But its too late now ... I have a tendency to post prematurely, do something else for 5 minutes, say 'SHIT! I forgot to add something!', then edit the post. Same thing with PM's, but adding 20-30 words in the form of another PM is hardly worth the trouble.
I think i've relied on phpBB2/YabbSE/IPB's safety net too much.
