Is anyone else here a performing artist? Do you dance or sing? I know it's a strange thing for an INTP, but I'd like to know that I'm not alone...

I act.

By the way, your signature picture is large and annoying.

Now, now, girls.

I looked at your website, Nefertiti, and have to say you don't look a typical INTP.

I doubt if you'll find many singers and dancers around here. I certainly don't.

But if that is what you want to do, then good luck to you!

Competitive dancer here, and not the only one on this forum.

I did lots of community theater and stuff in my childhood (first grade through highschool). I am a shy introvert, but as you guys might acknowledge, performing isnt really equivalent to socializing so its perhaps not quite as daunting for us as might be expected. It's a mask after all, and you're risking less.

At this point I've settled into the post production side of things, which is like performing through a layer of abstraction. I'm sure there are a lot more INTPs lurking around "behind the curtains" as well?

There are quite a few, I know a particularly daring one who sometimes performs nude (he doesn't come to this forum though).

The irony is that I'm not particularly shy socially. . . but if I ever get up in front of people and perform again, it'll be too soon.

I play guitar and sing mostly and I'm a pretty competent songwriter. Guitar is really where my skills are at and I love performing whether it's on stage, in front of friends, or a house party.

At first I felt wierd playing guitar in front of other people, but as I've gotten increasingly better at guitar I've learned how to perform very well. I've gotten fairly nasty and improvisation and have jumped in situations where I've had to perform in front of alot of people with absolutely no rehearsal or idea I was going to play and have been able to finess it (I play best when it's random like that for some reason)...

As my girlfriend put it very well, "Fake it till you make it."

If you saw me on stage you'd have no idea I was very introverted.

Singing and acoustic have been my new obsession (past year and a half or so). I do currently have trouble playing in front of people and sinking into the moment (extraverted sensing?), however I feel it is becomming increasingly easier as I perform more and more and as awkard as I feel about it I try to take on any chance I have (though I haven't performed in public yet, just with the old cats I jam with and for my friends).

As for most INTPs I find it difficult to express my feelings - especially in song. But in that I find the greatest personal challenge of all and despite how much anxiety and shit I give myself, I know that if I just keep pushing it the day will come when I've got that shit mastered. ;)
