okay.. so heres' the idea, figure out all the major INTP locales then plan for a meet there. because I'm in the USA, I'm going to poll all the major US cities, sorry Europeans.

the choices were derived from this url http://www.americanhospitals.com/questions/travel/majorcitieslisting.htm

the goal, if any, is to find the most central location to "plan" a meet not that there is plan to actually be one.. just querying the masses

shout out to s0523

the discussion is now in this thread

The only major problem is travel once you get there: you have to rent a car, get a cab, or depend on someone else.

Add Boston to your list - that is my vote.

Look for cheap airport subways or trains - and no need to rent a car:

Paris is a fine example:

1. $450 roundtrip January to April - low tourist time - so evey year they try to attract
2. $10 subway/RER at the airport to anyplace in the city
3. $60 rooms in high tourist areas close to Eiffel, Arc and Notre Dame

American cities may be similar - but lack the ease and price of Paris in the off season :

1. Boston = airport subway to anyplace in the city - plus a great city to walk around in
2. Chicago? - ok walk
3. San Francisco = airport subway - another good walking city
4. Seattle? - ok walk

But airline prices are not as consistent as Paris - they do not have consistent off seasons, and if they do - high tourist areas in the USA always seem to leave out low priced and convienent transportation from the airport to the city?

Another idea - off season ski areas - might find good transfer loging packages?

If not Chi, then New York because I've never been and need to take a trip there.

I'll second and change my first vote to this (esp. if this hypothetical meetup were to occur before June graduation, heh)

fucking Chicago, yeah, I'll be there

hrm... now that I think about it I can get a free ride in Chicago or New York... but I'd prefer Chicago because I hate flying

I will take any excuse to go to Las Vegas. That place is awesome.

My bias leans towards NYC or Richmond, being on the East Coast and all. DC'd be nice too. Otherwise I think the already slim chance of me making it would become completely impossible.

I voted for LV - mostly because of the potential for low cost. But here's some feedback on some places:

I used to go to Defcon - in Vegas during the summer.
It has decent transit, good facilities, other stuff to do, and is dirt cheap in the offseason. It can be very hot in the summer, but is tolerable.

I lived in Chicago - another good place, with good transit, decent facilities, and other stuff to do. But I've never seen it cheap, except possibly during the winter. And Chicago seriously sucks during the winter.

Now I live not too far from San Francisco. It's always absurdly expensive, but has good transit, lots of touristy things to do, and probably has decent facilities, although I've never actually been there for a conference. The weather is always tolerable, sometimes great.

It might be worth suggesting San Jose, CA, actually. It has passable transit, a few touristy things to do, good facilities(lots of conferences), easy access to SF, and is cheaper (though not alot) than SF. Access is excellent, with an airport adjacent to downtown. And I bet ALOT of intp's live around here.

Sacremento is cheaper than SJ, but access to the city and transit is poor.

I choose Vegas for its debauchery. But I suppose we could create that no matter where we are.

How far off would this be? I'm not going to Vegas in July. I'm not so sure I want any of you geeks breathing too hard on my mojo. It won't be much of a fun trip if I end up getting bent over on the tables.

OK, I just took a longer look at the list. Jackson, Miss? Buffalo, NY? Did you honestly think someone would pick Nebraska when you typed it in the space?

Why not do this like the Olympics? Get like four - five cities tops and then get people who live in that city to prepare a pitch package showing why their locale would be the best. They'd come up with suggested dates, activities and possible areas to stay. It doesn't have to be exact or have them spend too much time on it but just to get a general idea. I don't know if we can expect people to blindly fly to some city just so we can meet a bunch of nerds from online. I mean haven't there been enough horror stories on the boards about Match.com?

I'll go to Vegas on a whim. It could be tomorrow for all I care.

What exactly does "bent over on the tables" mean? I'm not sure if we're envisioning the same thing. :pornstar:

I'll go to Vegas on a whim. It could be tomorrow for all I care. Road trip!!! Actually, I've already have travel plans to Florida and Colorado over the next couple of weeks. I know this kinda kills the spontenaity, but I'll be in Vegas probably the first week of the NCAA tournament in March. Why don't you come out then and we can do a little recon mission for debachery?

What exactly does "bent over on the tables" mean? I'm not sure if we're envisioning the same thing. :pornstar::sick: Not sure which is more unpleasant to envision. Mine would be a fully clothed dealer, bleeding my wallet faster than a hooker. Though probably experiencing less emotional fulfillment.
