I've decided to host a Skype "honor system" drinking game. The game of choice will be the Alphabet game.

I like this idea because people showing up is completly optional to my level of enjoyment.

The alphabet game takes about 10 seconds to explain and 15 seconds to understand. As with all drinking games it sounds stupid on paper so I'll keep it a secret.

YES, it's actually pretty good, even though it's a bit of a system hog when it's running but it's worth the quality IMHO, not for gaming but for general VOIP.

2) Someone starts a conference call, and you ask to join the call.

3) I really suggest each person talks a little one-on-one to at least one or two people, possibly with face, before jumping in. I've been to a couple in the flesh meetups, they're a lot more smooth if everyone has a rapport with one or two people established. It's like tempering eggs before adding them in cooking. You'd be surprised how often members you've been indifferent to or not liked are pleasant over voice, because anonymity is lost and context is added.

4) Conference calls seem to work ideally with 5 or fewer people. Confusing after that, and skype has some technical difficulties as well. More than one room might be necessary, or having people duck out to talk one on one for a little bit.

Just need to get enough people up for it. Weekends seem best.

Xanax played a role in my DC Meetup St Patrick's Day Blackout Disaster. I was still drinking then, and due to a series of circumstances, I inadvertently drank far more than I would ever have found advisable. I'm pretty sure that incident managed to stay mostly unmentioned on the forums, so I don't know why I'm bringing it up, but I'll be damned if I'm going to untype words once they've been typed.

Of all the things I miss most in life, I miss Xanax. They give me Klonopin, Ativan, hell, an occasional Valium-- nothing approaches the sweetness that is Xanax.

If "benzodiazepine" were not such an awkward word, I would write for it a love song.

I used to love xanax recreationally when I was younger. Then years later I was prescribed it for anxiety. Now it's only occasionally gratifying (both recreationally and medically) and I only occasionally take it because the severely affected short term memory con outweighs the feel good part.

When I was taking it daily I noticed I would be relaxed in social situations but I couldn't remember what I had said 5 minutes before. That was a big problem. Then there's the alcohol and xanax combo which feels great but....I don't like the total blackout of large chunks of time effect if you're having more than say...two beers. So if you're taking it daily and decide to drink a little one night... throw your memory into the garbage.

I stopped taking them daily as prescribed when I visited a close friend at her home and after dinner she finally said..."look, you've told me this same story 3 times already since we've been sitting here. What's going on with you?" Xanax, that's what!

The last bottle that was filled has lasted me over two years now.
If I want more, too bad for me..I've moved and I can't remember the doctor's name. (!)

Another, a depressant, tells me to be very careful with taking too much or taking other depressants at all so I don't die. These are considered low side effect.

The third I just puke if the dose is wrong.

Nearly no risk-free drugs, especially not prescription. They're usually prescribed because taken wrong or with the wrong thing, they will kill you, and may just for no discernible reason.

I'm sorry for your loss, but it's good for people to know. Go for trazidone and not ambien if you can, much cheaper and fewer interactions, and does not make you loopy.

Sorry to hear that. I wouldn't really say I take it recreationally. I take it most nights because I can't sleep otherwise (and can't wake up in the morning thanks to the side effects of one of my antidepressants) but I have inadvertently learned that staying awake past when it makes you sleepy results in something like drunkeness that is generally not remembered.

As with qualia, all of my prescriptions have some pretty serious risks when taken as directed. I've pretty much accepted that I could drop dead at any given moment. Unfortunately, as with most things in life, it's a matter of cost-benefit analysis; for me, the difference in quality of life is worth the risks.
