View Full Version : The Chatroom

The INTPc chatroom is perpetually dead. What's interesting is that it used to get fairly good traffic, but then died out despite how the site has grown overall. Maybe it's all :joft:'s fault for not being in there 24/7 anymore. What can we do to breathe some life into it? I'm thinking perhaps a scheduled chat time every week would be cool, but I'm curious if there is enough interest to launch and sustain that. If this were successful, scheduled chats could even be archived and posted in an IRC subforum somewhere. Well, those are some of the ideas I've had on the topic. Anyone else have any ideas regarding the chatroom?

Have a chatroom attraction niche, You learn a bit more personal info in the chatroom people.
I can never get it to work.

Doesn't Chatzilla come with Firefox? It comes with Mozilla anyway, and it's easy to use. Yeah, I think part of the problem may be the busted-ass web interface we have here. I mean, don't get me wrong, it's a nice effort and a good gateway, but it could use some work. It's a little buggy and not as user-friendly as a proper IRC client.
If you use Chatzilla, just type in /server irc.intpcentral.com and then /join #intp to get to the INTP chatroom.
You know, I don't even know. I've never used IRC before. I was just clicking on the link at the top of the forum, and it would bring up a chat window and it would briefly appear that I was in like Flynn, but then it would say something like "your server has too many connections, please contact ecnet if you want to make an exception" or something.
if you have chatzilla installed, clicking on this link should open up a window (irc://irc.ecnet.org)
Then, type: /join #intp

Hmm, I'd say this chat thing went over like gangbusters tonight, and all it took was a thread. I think what I'll do is start a chat reminder thread in the Local Pub and try to make this happen every Friday night (at least those Fridays where I'm around and available). Anyone who is hanging around the forum will see the post and perhaps feel like joining in. Now, I just have to remember to start this thread next Friday. I give it a good 50% chance.

What'd you all discuss? Give us non-chatters a little taste of the awesomeness. Entice me.

My assless pants. Ivy's mustard purchasing habits. Rajah's hubby and apparent obsession with Skid Row and Great White. Everyone pointed and laughed at Google Monster. Deckard tried to lure people to his website to give them computer viruses. Some n00bs talked about some n00b stuff and some n00b NF was NFing around. And there was some running commentary on forum antics that were happening concurrently.

Excellent. You could have just mentioned the name Ivy, and that would have been enough to entice me.

I know INFPg has/had weekly chats. They don't have the numbers we do either.
So who archived last night?

So who archived last night?
We had a secretary an SJ in there, so if she didn't archive it, I doubt anyone did.

It certainly was. At least, getting there after the live-in tech support was already asleep.

I've never caught the chat bug. Usually I get on the phone if I want immediacy. I suppose I just haven't developed it into a habit. I could see where it might have its uses.
I remember a couple times in the past, using it with someone whose little windows of soundbite statements kept appearing and then covering up the small screen I was still typing in. We used to have a hard time getting the connection going too. Recently I've been in some chat sessions that were easy to use, but I have yet to seek it out.

What kind of freaking introvert are you?
And how do you talk to 15 people at once?

I'm often an introvert who doesn't need to have an instant connection with 15 people at once.
But if I wanted to . . . .like I said it could have its uses.

One idea would be to have the IRC room more integrated into the forum somehow.. but exactly how I'm not sure
