As of late, I have found that there have been a lot of people complaining on these boards. Well here is my little poll on the subject, feel free to reply :)

Complaining of our personal issues or complaining about the fora?

We seem to have a good deal of meta-discussion. We had the real estate/CAPS LOCK thread in People and Psychology (and I am guilty of contributing to that) and A Short Rant/Suggestion To All thread at Suggestion Box. (To which I have not contributed.) And now we have this thread. Discussion about discussion. Which can be constructive and needed, assuming there was something wrong with the discussion to begin with. This board is one of the most civil I've seen, but there are certain low moments.

I consider all complaining to be superfluous. Complaints don't occur in a relaxed, social atmosphere. And complaints actually cause an atmosphere to become more hostile and stressful.

So yes, for people everywhere goes: every time they complain, it is one time too many. (if they complain twice, it's twice too many)

Yes, they do. It causes unrest. That's why I always complain about the forum members in the moderators forum.

And that's why moderators are always pissed off and act like nazis.
No wait a minute..

Anyway isn't this thread actually us complaining about others complaining lol. Seems kind of counter productive to me.

Sorry for the double post. I guess it was just an opinion thing. Yeah, complaining can be slightly annoying. Best to ignore it. GOD I HATE MY LIFE!!!! WHY ME WHYYYY??????

Yesterday, I saw this and was tempted to say no. But thinking it over, yes.

Having devoted my life to eliminating any form of emotion, I find it rather tedious to see the sentimental and trivial overwhelming the forum; plus I've no idea why people post such fervent and politically-correct rants which are in line with the safe zeitgeist ( eg: they win instant self-congratulatory brownie-points for being conformist; and... well, Johnson in his dissection of Milton pointed out that if you praise someone, such as the common man, and tell him he is fit for governance, you're not going to get a critical audience ). You don't like smoking ? Who cares ? No-one's breathing smoke at you through the internet. I don't like chewing-gum: doesn't mean I want it banned. That's trivial.

You love everybody and think universal peace and love should be forcibly implemented ? That tolerance for all opinions is sacrosanct ? That sexism & racialism & nationalism should be suppressed forever through education and the whip? Fine, but just give reasons, don't scream insults at each other.

I realise that everyone who has existed usually gets stuck at a/ Me = Me, b/ Because I'm me, I'm special, c/ because I'm special, I know more than anyone else on any subject; but couldn't we take your immense intelligence for granted through the cogency of your arguments and the slick steel of your logic ?

I haven't noticed much complaining about the forum, 'cos there's not that much to complain about. Don't like it ? Don't stay. But members seem to disagree with each other and inform the rest of us more and more...

All I ask, when people complain about me, is to be allowed to complain back about them. I don't like it when some are allowed to complain more, and some complaints are held in higher esteem than others, for non-logical reasons. This is very vague, that is because I don't want to be tied up, gagged, and thrown into the mississippi. *looks around nervously*

People complain about me too much. Not enough people complain about the people who need to be complained about.

Who has complained about you? The rants and raves forum is there for people to complain and vent about lifes troubles. Sometimes it helps to talk to people.

Yes.

I am used to people venting, ranting, working through emotions. I don't have a problem with "complaining" if you really just want to understand something better or if your aim is to strike an emotional/mental balance in your life. Yes, by all means, complain away. I see that as part of the reason there is a board. It can be very helpful to get thoughtful input from other INTPs.

On the other hand, I cannot stomach too much complaining and nitpicking about others' posts. It seems childish, prideful, a waste of time, and extremely counterproductive. I also do not understand the concept of complaining about irrelevant details and being overly critical of people for their thoughts, opinions, and occasionaly the way a post is worded. Who is really that arrogant? I mean, come on now. I know most of us are INTPs and sometimes we may feel the need to correct and clarify, but I cannot respect a person who is unwilling to stand corrected.

But, hey.

This is hilarious, a thread complaining about complaining.

There are some rants and pieces "helpful advice" out there, but I don't see too much complaining on this site. I would call Shai Gar's thread on getting kicked off #intp complaining but that's a pretty extreme example for here. Even then it got turned into a thread about old ladies sitting around clutch their coffee.

Like Claverhouse said, if you don't like the way things work....

I find it amusing but kinda sad.

I just ignore that mostly, until I get annoyed.

Everyone complains, it's just when it gets to be too much of it that it causes irritation.

i was about to say that too. how ironic we're complaining about how people are complaining. except maybe this complaint has a point while some complaints dont.
i dunno, i don't realy mind it too much. i dont think it really bothers people...the complaints just waste space on the post, but not much more because nobody needs to read them if they don't want to.

how ironic we're complaining about how people are complaining.
and how ironic that we are complaining about how people are complaining in a forum for complaining

There's a difference between observing and complaining. Mgbradsh was observing that there are people on this thread who are complaining about complainers. Those who subsequently pointed out that he was complaining about the complaining about complainers were also observing. I'm also observing. If everyone would learn to draw the distinction, I think less people would be offended and less would care when they are.

I realize you guys were just joking around, but it gave me that realization, and plus if I had continued the irony bit it would have progressively become less funny and more lame.

man, we could go on forever saying how ironic it is to complain about people who complain about people who complain about people who complain...and so on and so fourth. how about not. :)

and good point, booyalab.

It would be like an irony vortex, from which we could never extricate ourselves.

I say it's all KentOhio's fault. He should post less frequently and accept other's legitimate complaints with more grace.

Just kidding, dude. . . ;)
