Hi. I'm really not good with introductions, but here goes anyway:
I'm a 20 year old INTP from Upstate NY. I've joined this group because I've always wanted to meet more INTPs (other than my boyfriend... somehow he doesn't count) and the mailing list was less than satisfactory.
Anyway, like I said I'm not good at introductions... but I think after I get comfortable I'll be a very active poster, I'm very opinionated. :)

Welcome to the nerd asylum. Jump in and post. You'll likely be less of a freak here than your used to being, for better and/or for worse. (The special status of "freak" is taken away, but the plus side is people don't roll their eyes when you communicate in your natural way about things that naturally interest you!)

Thanks for responding! I'm so used to being at message boards where I post and am completely ignored! :)

I've lived in Western and Eastern NY state before. Are you in college? what are your future goals?

Nope, not in college. I plan to go back eventually, but for now... not something I can deal with just yet. Where in Western NY did you live? I live just outside Rochester. Not a bad place to live, could be better...
Goals, goals... right now I'm stagnating living at home :(. Career-wise I'm going to get into dog-grooming.

The dog grooming... :-p I knew there was gonna be questions about that. :) . I guess there's a lot of reasons.
One of the most obvious reasons is that I can go to the dog grooming school near me for 6 weeks (HOPEFULLY for free) and get certified and then go straight into the job market (grooming places of all sorts are ALWAYS hiring) and will then be able to make more them minimum wage almost instantly for very little or no expense and only six weeks of my time. Then once I'm making a little more money I will be able to think a little bit more about a more intellectually-fulfilling career some time down the road.
Another reason is that I think its one of the few "non-thinking" jobs I could do for eight hours a day and not feel like killing myself when I get home every night. I've always had a love and empathy for animals that was more or less absent for humans and have considered a career in animal care for years, but didn't want to be a vet or *shudder* "vet-tech" (one of the more disgusting, boring and heinous jobs there is.)
I guess that's a pretty good explanation.

what would you like to eventually pursue? any idea?

Not really. I'm not a very "career-driven" person -- I've always thought I'd get a job I could tolerate and then do my thinking at home. But I left high school after tenth grade and I sometimes feel pretty bad about that (necessary as it was) and would like to go back to college someday, if only for my "soul" if not for work. So if I don't really know. There are so many things I'm interested in that I would be hard pressed to pick one. (I'm one of those people who can find just about anything interesting -- I almost never get bored.)

why was it necessary to leave school? having many interests is good and bad, even though you're torn, you should find one thing and stick with it otherwise you'll always be going between various things.

Why is it that every single freakin' intp is a cult fan of Donnie Darko?
The avatar rocks. :)

So, what is it like dating another INTP?

Dating another INTP ... I guess it has it's ups and downs like anything else. Its certainly nice to know I never have to worry about having to explain all my little INTP quirks to him. To be honest he's a lot more "textbook" INTP then I am (I tend to lean toward the middle on everything except P/J, and even that I'm not very extreme.)
It's really interesting comparing myself to him. Especially since he was the first INTP that I had any kind of relationship with (I have a couple friends that are INTP but I'm not really that close with them.) So it gives me a lot of neat perspective, especially on the whole Nurture/Nature argument since I know both his and my history pretty well.
