If it hadn't been you, "formerly", I might have skipped this thread, based on the title.
Hmmm. Yes, looks like Big brother is here. The question becomes more - what kind of big brother will he be ?

They'll protect us from cigarette smoke but blast us w/x-rays - makes about as much sense as anything else in this world ...
Whatever can be done to watch people will be done. Historically, the itching desire to keep an eye on people has been irresistable. A society that thinks nothing of the paparazzi, that thinks nothing of invading the privacy of celebrities, has little right to complain. "Oh, but they're celebrities!" - Not in their homes, their hotel rooms, their bathrooms - in those places, they are just people and deserve privacy - but the photographs of Elizabeth Taylor getting into the shower in Rome were published in 1963, were they not? ... You've got cameras everywhere now. An estimate that was published in the New York Daily News said that the average New Yorker going about his daily business - a threat to nobody! - was photographed an average of 250 to 300 times per day. If they figure out a way to take pictures of what you had for breakfast, believe, those pictures will be taken and will be filed. This is hysteria, and people are at their worst when they are hysterical - and it feeds into our filthiest desires - to have the "goods" on the next guy being one of the filthiest. Irresistable.
