This science forum is not nearly as popular as I was first thinking it should be when I joined last month. I put up a posting here and the last time anyone said anything in it was dec. 12th, yet it is still number 8 down from the top right now almost three weeks later....

If you have any kind of topic about science you've been thinkin of startin (or replying to): do it in the name of science's popularity reputation:D

I guess this isn't pure science, but I've been staying up with developments toward building a "space elevator" for a long time. It's one of those technologies that is right on the fringe of possibility and could radically alter the economics of spaceflight if it's ever built. You can read more about it here:

I was surprised as well at the apparent lack of interest. I love science. I should have become a scientist, but I wanted to chase the almighty dollar instead (mistake).

Maybe it's just not as fun to discuss in this type of forum, more fun to research.

Could also just be that the threads aren't always that interesting; I've started several basically pointless and plain uninteresting (to other people) threads myself!

I think it may be because not a lot of people know much about science. Some scientific discussions can get pretty technical and it can be hard to keep up. It is much easier to respond to the threads in People and Psychology because it is more opinion based and most INTPs have and opinion about something.

I think a brand of science's popularity is directly related to how applicable to reality it is (or how applicable the instructor can make it seem).

I'll admit, it's no sports forum...hee hee

Some people get a little exclusionary sometimes here which I suppose is fairly easy to do with science. I guess when some big news story comes out on something scientific this forum can pick it up...I suppose you could always talk about tsunamis, without it being political.

I dont know, I have my degree in genetics and my research history so Im a sientist and dont even post alot here. I think a big issue is that its interesting but by the time we explore all the possibilities in our heads we dont have anything left to say here;)

Ya, I agree with a bunch that has been said; basically its too niche for any topic to be all that popular. Anyone who doesnt know what they are talking about either doesnt say anything or when they do they get shutdown quickly, unlike the many other subjective forums.

Too bad, but interesting in and of itself.

Science is scary cuz it creates monster insects, radioactive dinosaurs, mutanted turtles, etc. Psychology has been co-opted by marketing to condition consumers. Biology is being used to create a super race of soldiers. Chemistry makes toxins, genetics puts genes in food. In short, the media has made science scary.

I am very interested in science however recognise my limited knowledge on the subject(for now).

Perhaps when a science topic is brought up by somebody about a perticular field they could suggest books or websites INTP's could look up in order to gain some understanding of the subject......this may create fairly slow moving threads but may produce better debate.
