He didn't want discourse, obviously. He wanted to create a scene by starting at least... what? Eight threads, now? If he wanted to post his every thought on why he hates Hustler in, "WHY I HATE HUSSLER: THE BLOG" I wouldn't have bothered to give him his short ban him in the first place.

Patiently spending his week in time-out and coming up with a proper argument on his perceptions on the need for change in the current structure and aspects of the totalitarian regime would have been great.

Instead he tried to circumvent his ban three times. There were many other methods he could have used to cope with not having a place to talk about stimulating subjects that were important to him but he chose to be a disruption and had to be put out of his misery.

It was the best thing for all of us.

I don't think he was a troll, and I'm pretty sure the INTP majority of voters in the poll which asks that very question agreed with me. I don't want to hear his life story, but it's always very frustrating, to me at least, when you receive a raw deal.

He received a raw deal:

1) Had his avatar changed to something which ridiculed him on the forum, and which possibly ridiculed how he actually looks.

2) Was treated as a troll because he reacted as I would expect any normal human being to react.

3) Tried repeatedly to get people to listen. They did not.

Will this guy give us awesome amazing threads? Probably not, but neither will all those who lurk on this forum and don't participate. He should at the very least be able to read threads that he finds interesting.

I'm sorry, he was a shitty poster. That he was unable to be anything but makes it worse, not better.

Think of it this way: If someone was posting kiddie porn all over the forums, but it was because he was mentally ill and couldn't help it, we'd ban him anyway.

It is a wonder that it never occurred to him that he simply could have changed his avatar back.

Or just changed it to something else and moved on with life.

I'm not particularly interested in his life story either.

Yeah, maybe the situation could have been handled more delicately by the mods. (Or maybe not.)

And yeah, he could have reacted in a more sensible way, rather than in a middle-school way. (Or maybe not.)

Regardless, he didn't seem like a particularly good fit for the forum. I'm not sure why he even wanted to be here, to be honest. Some things are beyond my comprehension.

Just to go on record here - I wouldn't like it if someone changed my avatar (or any other "options") as a "joke". It is just not a cool thing to do to someone. I got my usertitle changed to "Banned", and I never did anything like this. They're just little pranks that make up the INTP Central culture. Since todayme had started a thread about his "aviator", asking women to hit on him, he basically made himself the butt of everyone's aviator jokes. The problem is that he didn't start that thread as a joke. He really wanted to pick people up. Which is why he couldn't take the prank and reacted the way he did.

Of course there were complaints and I'm sure that someone asked him in a PM to please change the avatar (right?).

If he knew that other people were frustrated by the avatar he ought to have changed it and by not doing so he was intentionally offending and harrassing people here. so? obviously, that's not an issue since that didn't happen. just because you would have gotten some sort of clue that perhaps people are offended when they tell you they're offended doesn't mean that's how everyone else works. believe it or not, some really don't get anything other than a complete dismissal/rejection. a loud, in-your-face, collective "NO!"

He was either a troll or so very stupid that he might as well have been one.

I'm sorry, he was a shitty poster. That he was unable to be anything but makes it worse, not better.

Think of it this way: If someone was posting kiddie porn all over the forums, but it was because he was mentally ill and couldn't help it, we'd ban him anyway.

He's been around for a while, and it was thought he would not be improving. The site is expanding quickly enough now that we are forced to have less patience than we did a year ago. But I'm glad you voiced your feelings, because we try to actively listen to the members feedback as well as to try and anticipate on our own what level to set the bar around here.

Thanks for acknowledging that I was voicing feelings/a viewpoint and not being argumentative. I was not trying to bash or defend anyone. I do grasp the concept of the ends justifying the means - but I don't have to like it.

Of course there were complaints and I'm sure that someone asked him in a PM to please change the avatar (right?).
No. What would be the point of a PM exchange with that guy?

If he knew that other people were frustrated by the avatar he ought to have changed it and by not doing so he was intentionally offending and harrassing people here.

An interesting angle, but not one I considered.

What good does poking him with a stick do though? Hustler's editing caused him to go into overdrive. It makes it seem as if todayme was set up though I don't think that was the intention.
What good!? Because it was funny. That guy wasn't going to last very long anyway. Might as well have some fun with him before he goes. But, yeah, sometimes I forget that...

Well, if they don't want to be forced to spend their time in purgatory they could just stop logging in... It's basically a lock on the door, and they're on the outside. They can keep fruitlessly banging on the door, or just turn around, wander off, and explore the whole rest of the world.
