What are the important or essential things that you need in your living environment? Personally, I require a lot of open space and privacy and unfortunately my needs are not being met as of now. I live in a rancher with my father. The house is very small and furniture is cramped everywhere. For example, in my room a giant bed, dresser and nightstand are thrown into a 10x10 space which neighbors my Dad's room. About 1 ft or less of wall makes this space not so private at all. Up the hall is the living room, dining room, kitchen and I can hear whatever activity is going on there. If the TV is on, I hear it, if my Dad is washing dishes, I hear it. Basically anything that goes on and I have to be careful not to speak loudly on the phone either because it is heard. With my space being so very small, I have nowhere to put anything and so must everything is thrown around and the disorganization wastes a lot of time to find a book or anything of importance. Also, I can't do anything I want to do here so I am basically forced to just live in a state of isolated suburban hell without being able to paint or bring anything new in here without the approval of my INFJ Dad. I am 24 yrs old and I feel like I am 8 yrs old. Mods, this could be a rant but I didn't know that when I began to write it. I think my example clearly illustrates where an INTP should not live and so I am wondering how other INTP's living space compares to mine. What are the key essentials that keep you together and comfortable in your private setting?

Why not move out?

The financial situation. I don't make enough money at my job and since I pay for college, cell phone bill, gas, books and any other expense all of my money goes to all of the essentials of existence. Perhaps I can find a different job soon in order to find a suitable living space but pissing away money on rent just irritates me. I refuse to live with anyone because all of my past living experiences haven't been very enjoyable. The rent for a 1 bedroom around here is steep(500 or more) and plus all of the other expenses would put me in the farther negatives of debt. Though I have considered renting a garage that I can use as a studio just to get away from here.

I like it minimal. Few pieces of furniture that are functional but have a sense of style, nothing ornate. I like slightly darker colors for the painting and I don't like a lot of light to enter my room. I like enough space to maneuver, but large spaces bother me because I feel obligated to fill it...and I don't want a lot of shit.
I like my room away from all public area, such as a kitchen or living room...or other people's rooms. I like houses with multiple floors for this reason, or my room stored away somewhere else [when I lived with my grandmother, my room was detached from the house. Loved it.]

Those aren't exactly essentials, I'm pretty adaptable. They are, however, my preferences.

I like big spaces, the lesser the things the better. However I do like tables [preferably with round edges] where I can study/make things, they have to be sturdy.

Since I have a need for drawing/art I would need a separate room for that + my comp.

It has to be peaceful, I like silence.

Edit: oh yes, the ability to have a lot of light but also darkness is a must.

All I need is a floor, a ceiling, four walls (with at least one window), and a lock on the door to which only I have the key. Everything else is extra.

yes, i need a room for art right now and i don't have it. It sucks. I agree in the table with round edges and a nice chair that sits 90 degrees vertical that says, bad posture suck it up and a work bench would be nice also. Open space is key.

I also prefer white walls, a white marble floor, ideally a glass balcony or a sliding window (I hate wooden frames), plus a good cooling/heating system. I like big rooms, but only if I have a book case or computer in there, otherwise it seems like a waste of space if I won't spend much time there.

I daydream about getting rid of all of my possessions, save for the bare essentials (clothes, a toothbrush, etc.) and my books and computer. The rest of them all seem so extraneous.

500 is cheap. if you can rent a garage for less and live in it, so much the better.

what are you gonna be when you grow up? if college isnt going to lead directly to 6-figure checks, then maybe you should quit college and work more.

I have a nice tv and mattress, and a comfortable couch. most of my other stuff is cheap, and there isnt very much of it.

Me - I like clutter and lots of it. And I don't like windows that are not heavily covered w/shades and then drapes over those. A view means nothing to me. I prefer to have only the light that I need. I don't like modern furniture at all. I like antique furniture piled w/antique collectibles. I like the smell of wood and wood polish, overlaid w/the smells of coffee and cigars.

You are, like, Mr. INTP.

As long as things are functional and logically done, that is what I need.

You need a dry-erase board up on the wall that tracks in bright red how much money you've "earned" by living rent-free all this time.
