View Full Version : Polls
Have you guys ever heard of "Buy Nothing Day"? It's a day to think about capitalism and what we buy.
I suggest we have a "No Poll Day". I think we need to consider our flagrant use of polls. I myself am guilty of using the polls, I'll admit it. It can be a good way of gathering a public opinion. So can talking about things though. I know writing a paragraph is a little more effort...but for just one day...???

We should have a poll on whether this is a good idea or not. ;P
EDIT: One minute later... http://www.intpcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1901
I don't see any real problem with polls. But I don't care either way, if we decide to have a No Poll Day then I won't do polls. And Buy Nothing Day sounds like impractical NF hippy stuff to me...

I'm going to have to go ahead and agree with all ya said there. I just peeked into the people and psychology forum and noticed that right now almost every thread there is a poll........

You guys are just going to have to try a little harder to come up with thought provoking Thread Starting "what do you think" type questions. ;)
Also, ideas come in all shapes and kinds. =p
*going away to see if there are any new photos posted*
I just think that poll option is over-utilized by people and becomes a way of trying to get opinions without finding out why people have those opinions (or what have you).
And no I am not voting on garak's poll :P
I like the idea. I get tired of seeing all those polls. Another problem I have with polls is that they bump threads. I think that If no one responds to a thread then it should not jump to the top of the page just become someone answers the poll.

I have a mixed reaction... sometimes it's fun to see that someone has suddenly responded to an old poll. Especially "old, dusty" ones. And polls are fun - not everyone responds to any one of them (and that's fun, too) - there are times when another poll is exactly what I hope to find. ( No, I don't do all of them either  .)
True, it's not the same as a thoughtful comment... but not all posts are that, either. ;) :) Not a criticism, by the way.
I really am looking forward to the thought provoking posts you'll be writing.
