View Full Version : Ode to an INTP Girl

INTP girls rock. i admit this is typist, so i'll allow for the possibility of INTP girls who don't rock, but mine does.
an INTP girl can rival the guy-factor of a male best friend but still be entirely feminine. she will make fun of everyone else with you, and not even let you escape the wit. i believe it is an inborn male trait to fear that women will nag us, but she'll never even come close to that. we think that giving up single life means we'll have to take our R&R time in secret for fear of being caught slacking off. but if you look, you'll see the INTP girl is slacking off too! holy shit, you should just join her.
i don't think this is any secret, but INTP girls are also usually sexually liberated and have libidos like men. having an INTP girl is like having cheat codes to life.
if you can't find yourself an INTP girl, i don't think there's any consolation worth mentioning. maybe try drugs.
here is a poem (albeit one of those cheap ones that doesn't rhyme):
of all the things i've ever imagined,
none of them came close to imagining,
that a girl could be as cool and fun as an INTP girl
i thought it was against the laws of physics or something,
for a girl to not require so much maintenance.
and against the laws of logic to still be so damn pretty
i never thought i'd meet someone with boobies,
who could also beat my ass down in a debate,
unless it was a very smart fat dude
(i admit this is sexist, although i believe the only reason i might have expected this from a guy is because i myself am a guy)
if you've got an INTP girl,
you've got something most men will only ever dream of,
so take good care of her, dumbass
this applies if your girl isn't an INTP as well. remember, there are many people out there who have no valentine today. their lives suck even more than yours! happy valentine's day!

I'm going to print out your post and make flyers out of it with my phone number on them, then post them all over town.

I only know one INTP woman, and I've been avoiding her a bit lately because she was inquiring circuitously what I think of women making the first move. Her friends have also been asking me this lately, after some not-so-subtle conversation-manipulation. She's not my type (physically), but she's a helluva lot of fun. We argue a lot.

So, all this sounds great, but where would I find one that might like me?

Males are expected to be extroverted, females are not. Then again, some were willing to approach me, as evidenced by my having gone out with a few.
But now I'm more picky, I once had a rule that I couldn't turn any female down if they asked me out or to do something. This last job totally fried that, since I worked with a female that made unreasonable demands constantly.

I'm not too sure about that.
I'm a girl, and not an unattractive one. Yet, I haven't had a date in years.
Men don't seem to like bright girls very much, and when that bright girl doesn't talk a whole lot..... hrmpf. It feels like men are intimidated by me, and I'm clueless how to make them realize I won't bite.

i woke up this morning and realized that i might have placed too much emphasis on how cool INTP girls are. but that is far from the only thing they have going for them. they lack all of the things that men find undesirable in women. they are pretty much flawless, basically.
in fact, some have contended that they are really mythical creatures, a perfect mate dreamed up by mournful men. if that's true, then to find one is the most fabulous type of schizophrenia, from which one should never be cured.
also, if you're a girl and not an INTP; take heart, your familiarity with INTP girls (by being on this forum) qualifies you to at least try to emulate them as much as possible. ignore everything you read about "pleasing your man" in those magazines, there are too many non-INTP girls involved in coming up with those ideas and they're almost always silly. just make an INTP girl your role-model and you'll do far, far better.

no offense, joft, as i know you're right about much of what you're saying (intp girls are amazing), but acting like someone else would feel fake, and i can't do that. if a guy only likes me because i'm acting like someone i'm not, then it wouldn't be real. it would feel empty.

I think that's what I need. It seems like a bad idea at first but it'd be challenging and keep me interested. If I've ever met any girls who had this quality they were obviously too shy to show it.
I thought I had a girl like that once and it was great! Then I realized it wasn't that she was smart enough to see through me, she was actually just so dumb she never had any idea what was going on. She would just say whatever she wanted and what she wanted just happened to align with what I wanted.
This thread is making me sad...

it hasn't to everyone, obviously, but it's more like it's gained meanings rather than lost them. "i love cheeseburgers!" "i love when people make them for me without spitting in them!"
and, in so doing, i agree with you. it's definitely weakened the term, it's made me skeptical as hell when someone says it to me.
and, why, for me, i rarely say it, and pay much more attention to someone's actions rather than their words.

Ignoring the potential creepiness and the horribly forced rhyme at the end of the last verse, I'm a very big fan of this song:
There was a time, so bright and gay
It seems like only yesterday
When I held your brain in my arms
Your adrenalin was like wine
Sweet perfume was your endocrine
When I held your brain in my arms
But now your brain is gone and it's left an empty hole
I gaze into your sockets but you're just a hollow skull
I used to love a lotta
Your medulla oblongota
And your basal ganglia
I remember we would stroll along your fissure of Rolando
When I held your brain in my arms
I miss how we would float down your vestibular canal
And how we would go swimming in your pons
The music you would play us
On your locus ceruleus
Still tickles my neurons
Now I'm sorry that I dropped you
That I accidentally plopped you
When I held your brain in my arms
It caused a contusion
When I held your brain in my arms
During "Suddenly Susan"
When I held your brain in my arms

I don't buy the whole 'men don't like bright girls' thing.
Intelligence is always up there on the list for most guys ...or at least most of the guys I know.
The girls that have thrown this one at me are usually just insecure and need to feel dominant. I don't like men with those qualities either. In support of emarilda, this depends almost completely on environment. Shows like Beauty and the Geek wouldn't exist if intelligence was consistently seen as sexually appealing. Intelligent men have a difficult time, and intelligent women a little more difficult time in many social environments. At least the inverse is true for shyness and/or introvertedness so when paired, both sexes probably stand about an equal chance? The difficulty for women is that if she happens to be with a competitive man, and she is more intelligent than he is, it generally requires either playing dumb, or stroking his ego into the facade of equal intelligence. Both are oppressive and depressing for people.
Anyway, but back on topic... Now i want an INTP woman!!! :sadbanana: (and i don't even care if she's smarter than me) No really, i'm okay, i'll just dress Martoon up this evening with some tasteful pumps and a teasing little skirt. I'm good.

if you think that's a bad thing, that's because you don't realize just how sweet INTP girls are, because discovering your true motives doesn't mean they'll deny them. ( )
This is very true! I couldn't agree more.

It's good to know that most INTP girls have libidos like men. I was starting to wonder if I was a nymphomaniac, after being accused of it a couple times. Like it's a bad thing!
You're not alone, and what is up with that anyway? Maybe it's emasculating or something.

Man this thread rules.
(i admit this is sexist, although i believe the only reason i might have expected this from a guy is because i myself am a guy)
if you've got an INTP girl,
you've got something most men will only ever dream of,
so take good care of her, dumbass
this applies if your girl isn't an INTP as well. remember, there are many people out there who have no valentine today. their lives suck even more than yours! happy valentine's day!

i woke up this morning and realized that i might have placed too much emphasis on how cool INTP girls are. but that is far from the only thing they have going for them. they lack all of the things that men find undesirable in women. they are pretty much flawless, basically.
in fact, some have contended that they are really mythical creatures, a perfect mate dreamed up by mournful men. if that's true, then to find one is the most fabulous type of schizophrenia, from which one should never be cured.
also, if you're a girl and not an INTP; take heart, your familiarity with INTP girls (by being on this forum) qualifies you to at least try to emulate them as much as possible. ignore everything you read about "pleasing your man" in those magazines, there are too many non-INTP girls involved in coming up with those ideas and they're almost always silly. just make an INTP girl your role-model and you'll do far, far better.
Mythical creatures? Yes, that sounds about right. Except for the part about her actually being real. Yes, INTP Girl, you're amazing.

Well, I guess I don't give off come hither vibes either. I don't really know how to and I think that trying would feel weird and wrong. Also, I wouldn't necessarily notice if people were trying to send vibes to me. I think that mostly, I?m nice, but sometimes when people piss me off I am a little sarcastic?
The thing is, it?s not that I don?t get along with the guys that I know, because I do- and some of them are even INTPs- it?s just that dating never happens. Only friendship. Oh well.

He a bit of an oblivious one (you think?) and I'm the kind that just expects something to be obvious and known after stating it once, so he misses a LOT of what is going on.
We often end up confused and stumbling over what may or may not have just occurred.

You see? This is an expression of an intp meta-imagination. While most people would assume that the woman or man of their dreams is human, a further level of introspection reveals that the dream-person is a collection of ideals; hence, programmed; therefore, it is less emotionally taxing to recognize your ideal as a robot.

True. That said, I have no proof of anything or anyone I read or 'interact with' on this forum, or frankly, the internet in general. As difficult as it is for INTPs to accept things on faith, at some point you have to in order to enjoy the internet for what it is and all it has to offer.

Your estimated probability might well be correct. But many actual outcomes are improbable, like human life itself. An INTP-INTP relationship is one of them. Your estimated probability might well be correct. But many actual outcomes are improbable, like human life itself. An INTP-INTP relationship is one of them. I know of four involving members of this board: myself, joft-Pooja (who met on the board), bluebell, and Methofelis. IIRC, bluebell's relationship is over 15 years old. Mine is over 25 years old, with over 20 years of marriage.
Well, God must really love you then. I didn't say it wasn't possible. There are billions of people and an INTP relationship is bound to occur. But try finding an INTP couple in your city or anywhere in real life. Chances are you could be searching for several centuries and still not find one.
I did calculations and the actual probability is no more than 0.06%. I think I'll just place my money on time travel.

Well, to reinvent my little 'intp girl self', of course. You mean it isn't? Anyway, I'm still going to keep trying to get the hang of that. No , not procreating. Did it , was successful. done. Doing fairly well at encouraging others to try though.

Damn Joft, that poem is the shit. Hell, the entire post is awesome.

i woke up this morning and realized that i might have placed too much emphasis on how cool INTP girls are. but that is far from the only thing they have going for them. they lack all of the things that men find undesirable in women. they are pretty much flawless, basically.
in fact, some have contended that they are really mythical creatures, a perfect mate dreamed up by mournful men. if that's true, then to find one is the most fabulous type of schizophrenia, from which one should never be cured.
also, if you're a girl and not an INTP; take heart, your familiarity with INTP girls (by being on this forum) qualifies you to at least try to emulate them as much as possible. ignore everything you read about "pleasing your man" in those magazines, there are too many non-INTP girls involved in coming up with those ideas and they're almost always silly. just make an INTP girl your role-model and you'll do far, far better.
I wish the men I know appreciated me as mych as you appreciate INTP women.

I have no idea what all of these women are talking about!
"I wish men around me liked INTP females..."
"I wish my guys friends appreciated me as much as you appreciate INTPs"
"I can't get some diddle sticks because I am an INTP girl, help PLZ"
"Guys are intimidated by me!"
This is either some desperate plea for attention "please talk to me!", trying to be coy, or they are doing something really really wrong / have horrendous personality flaws. (I saw a lot of you girls' pictures... you are far from butter trolls!)
I can't seem to have meaningful platonic relationships with NT men (mostly INTP/INTJ) without having them eventually fall for me. This is quite perplexing considering I enjoy the company of NT's the most and NT females are not exactly a common commodity. I am in a very long term relationship so this type of behavior is always not appropriate on any level.
I made a female ENTJ friend in grade school and we have stuck together like glue ever since. I also have an INTP friend online and the general consensus has been; "Wow, I really wish I could have male NT friends who could keep it in their pants".
I have also witnessed other types mimicking my behavior around men when they see how they respond to my straightforwardness and intellectual pursuits. So, I have trouble understanding women who say they don't come across men who find this quite an attribute in them. If you are in any intellectual social circles or groups what-so-ever these men will come to you.
In my high-school years I was beyond nerdy. Try near morbidly obese, a foot taller than most of the other boys (you ladies think being an NT is intimidating, try being 6ft tall), I had a MUSHROOM CUT (Oh it hurts to think about!) it was shaved in the back, and it was bleach blonde orange. I didn't have any clothes that fit, and often my shirts were too short for my body exposing jelly rolls. I didn't know how to do my makeup and would cake it all over my face, but only cover up nothing else making my skin look worse than it did in the first place and I was just a mess.
I still had no problems engaging men. I've always felt I could have pretty much any guy I wanted even back then. I was often asked;
"I don't want to sound like a dick or anything, but why do you... well, you know... you aren't exactly well...you are the FAT girl! How do you end up bringing the boys to the yard?" It seems like I have been asked this question a thousand times, and you know what IT IS A DICK THING TO SAY! Even if you start it by saying "I don't want to sound like a dick or anything". I really don't know how I bring the boys to the yard but it seems to be a very NT female trait. We can't help it. It is just our big sexy brains.
The mind is a powerful thing and as a female and an NT you are dealt a pretty wild deck of cards. Now when it comes to sexuality as a female NT, well don't get me started...
"Female NTs, in particular, are apt to have their sexuality overlaid with intellectualism. Their preference for the logical can obscure expressions of their feelings, which may or may not be well developed. If not, the NT female may have difficulty with orgasmic responses unless her partner takes the time, makes the effort, and understands the necessity of making a sexual approach through mutual exploration of intellectual concepts. It is unlikely that an NT female will be sexually stimulated by a partner who is not her intellectual equal. "

I can tell that my last girlfriend was an NT based on your own description here. Many NT women, it seems, are highly sexual. But also are in the sense of wanting something more than just a physical connection.
I can recall one time mentioning that it was not enough to simply be physical, that a mental connection had to exist as well. She had agreed on that and we put a lot of effort into connecting through ie: foreplay or talking, which made the sex even more mind-blowing than it otherwise would be. That and a mutual admiration for each others NT traits (we had different 'NT' traits, mine being intellectualism and hers being honesty and straightforwardness) made it into an excellent relationship.

Hmmph. I'm just waiting for the age at which women begin to think intellectualism is sexy, because I look around me and see no evidence of that whatsoever. Perhaps I'm simply too introverted.
On a relevant note, I met my very first INTP girl today. Wow. I don't think I've ever had more fun talking to a girl. Or fun at all, for that matter. And do you know what? She was intimidating, and I loved it.

Why did it not last?Lots of reasons, most of them stupid ones:
- I was tempted by the lure of adventure in another province
- I didnt want to go high and dry should we ever get into a fight and she kicks me out, then I really didnt have any place to go. (though now I know that quite a few people wouldve given me a place to stay if I did shack up with her and we got into a fight)
- Two small things bothered me about her -- one being that she was exceptionally tough with her 5 year old daughter (I on the other hand follow a more wu-wei approach to children which works very well), and the second was she didnt have the greatest hygeine when it came to intimate matters (kissing and other)
Of course, she did was totally sweet on me and had a lot of really admirable qualites, but I was just too drawn away to the possibility of being able to experience really unique things. Could I have dealt with all of those points. Now that I think about it, yes.

I seen her the other day, by chance. I was downtown and hungry to I went to a grab your food and run mexican restaurant. She was working at the till. As soon as I seen her, I was hit by a wave of shock, but remained outwardly calm despite the butterflies in my stomach. I looked up at the menu, then I approached the till.
She looked somehow more beautiful than I remember her (and she's not a bad looking woman).
I glanced to the side, and our gazes briefly locked before averting. When we were dating, we would often lock gazes. Yes, she looks a little different but its her. I gave her my order, smooth and confident. She had asked me what my name was, I told her.
Its been a year and a half, and I have changed in appearance. I have different clothes, new glasses, a new hairstyle, and was carrying a shoulder briefcase, and a new attitude. Did she not recognize me? She must have.
Thirsty, I asked her about some kind of weird mexican drink they had there, and she explained in vague terms that it was sweet and sour, I ordered, and sat down to go through my notes and make sure all of my equipment (external linux HDD, software CDs, tools) was intact for the upcoming house call.
Her manner was different at least happier, and more herself. I thought of telling her 'your not gonna spit in my food are ya?', but quickly supressed it. Ordered it, and got on my way.
What could I have done, chatted her up in front of the cooks? Tried to make small talk which would eventually lead to a bunch of crap i'd rather not deal with? Nah, best to move on.

1) I don't know, I'm relying on my intuition to draw conclusions from what I see, and what I see is that women (well, girls, really, considering my age) only compliment me on my intellect if they find the rest of me attractive, as well.

Being an INTP girl myself I think that the process of establishing a relationship is hard. My introversion comes from my timid persona, not my lack of interest in people.
I'm not allergic to nerds, I consider myself one. I am a hypercritical, intense thinker who likes to take walks alone in the rain barefoot. I even do a rain dance
I can never get a boyfriend because the only guys that talk to me want to ultimately copy my homework everyday. I am an interesting person who is very sensitive (huh? what? an INTP who has a sensitivity streak?????!!!*I've tested INTP 5 times out of 7*) and never posts on there forums even though I've been a member for about half a year. I just read and respond in my head, I'm afraid of looking stupid in front of a panel of people decades older than me.
I'm sorry, I don't know how that turned into a personal ad, but essentially my message is that true INTP females are rare and wonderful.

So far, my classwide MBTI survey has uncovered four female INTPs out of a sample size of 115, one of them being borderline ENTP and one of them being me. The borderline ENTP one is in a steady relationship with an INTJ, I've decided to basically remain celibate for the rest of my life for various complicated reasons, the third one has been approached before but isn't in a relationship, and I don't know about the fourth.
Two things to keep in mind: First, we are high school juniors, which means we can't actually say anything much about the sexuality side of things. Second, this survey is being conducted in a science/tech magnet school, which means that this probably is already an above-average ratio of INTP females.
O.o
Make of it what you will.

I think my problem with boyfriends is my problem with people in general. I don't trust them.
Someone complements me and I smile and say thank you and wonder if they really meant it.
In my mind I know people aren't trying to trap me but I need to transfer that into my actions.
Lots of guys have crushes on me and some last for a long time but they never lead to anything because I never let them.
All my current guy friends are flirts and I don't date flirts...
though I enjoy talking to them.
I laugh at them.
Anyways, I don't think it's an everlasting problem. I think it I'll grow stronger and it will end in a year or two.
of course I'll have to change a little but that's part of life, so what?
Anyways, I'm glad someone likes INTp girls.

It's interesting how there's a lot of talk on here about how all the INTP guys would love to meet an INTP girl, but not as much about whether or not INTP girls would be interested in INTP guys in the first place.
I'm a girl, teenager, and somehow I don't think that I would ever find an INTP guy romantically appealing. He'd be a great buddy for sure, while we're taking computers apart, playing Halo, having LAN parties, and having Tetris tournaments on our Ti-84 graphing calculators.
Somehow I find that I'm attracted to INFx guys, actually, more than INTx. The only NT type that I could ever find romantically appealing would probably be ENTP, although again, >90% of the time it will turn out to be a great friendship than anything else.
It's interesting, because I'm not a very typical girl (but then again is any INTP female?) As in, my Thinking function is so absolute to a point where I'm pretty emotionally awkward and stunted. I have no understanding of any decisions based on emotional content. That being said, maybe then, it's an attraction to the exotic that would explain the NF preference.
Interesting, really.

You seem to be assuming that all INTP males are as geeky as you. I'd much rather be in the pub, or even at a real party than at a LAN party, and speaking as a PC gamer, Halo is for n00bs (LAN parties and Halo in the same sentence?). I'd love to meet (socialise with) an INTP girl, but I'm under no impression that she'd be some kind of romantic panacea.

True that, true that.
I think that because of the relative rarity of INTP girls, all the INTP guys on here have this sort of "mystical, ideal" image of her that really is quite unrealistic. The image is propelled by the fact that most guys on here haven't actually met a young, single INTP girl in real life.
There's also the tendency of INTPs and INTJs to lean towards misanthropy.
One of my ENFJ acquaintances recently asked me about my sexual orientation because I've never been interested in dating, and don't see myself being so in the foreseeable future.
I told her that I was in fact, straight. I do like guys, the problem is that I hate people.
I wonder if this may sort of propel the image of the INTP girl further and further away from the reality?

My parents frequently thought I was a lesbian due to my lack of interest and dates.
I've never actually really dated, I mostly was friends at first and the relationship ended up falling in my lap. This is tricky as I hardly make any new friends, much like I never looked for a relationship.

I'm another who was never interested in relationships. In senior year of college, my straight best friend who'd known me for 4 years and my lesbian roomate both suddenly realized that they had no idea whether I was straight or gay. Pretty funny moment but understandable since I never really discussed relationships or attraction with them. My reply was, "um, I'm pretty sure I am straight. Haven't really cared to test it out though."
I went to a women's college, so I experienced 4 years pretty much minus the opposite gender. I didn't miss guys much (though it might've been nice to have at least a few guy friends for perspective). My social skills in that arena admittedly did not improve a lot there.
I still can't imagine being in a relationship in the next few years or even decades. It does seem like it could be an interesting experiment.... until I remember of all the work it'd require. Echhh.
Oh, yeah, I should probably stop thinking of human relationships as potential experiments.

What? You mean human relationships aren't just experiments?
Hmm...that explains a lot. I may have been going about it the wrong way. Ah well. All the name of science.

Self worship is a highly acceptable and healthy practice.

Oh, SPs are not so bad actually. Lots of fun in the right mood, even. Some of the best conversations I've ever had were with my late ISFP brother. Certainly the longest have been with him. (We once gabbed for three days straight, modulo sleep and meals.)
SJs... depends on the individual. As a rule, ugh, no. Almost certainly out as relationship material -- it would take a very strong commonality in something to overcome the type mismatch. It's not unheard of... the likelihood is low, though.

No, I keep an open mind on gender reassignment surgery.
She better be hot though, when the doc is done with her.

Mac, I have jokingly called you a crypto-INFP, but this post shows you are not one to close out your options unnecessarily. Tres INTP! :highfive:

I doubt she is, but I'm just saying that having XY instead of XX wouldn't always stop me.

Apparently, the combination being too attractive, too introverted, too standoffish, and too intelligent intimidates men and is a complete turn off. While these men may fantasize about such a woman existing, they are more easily seduced by the short, chubby, cute, cuddly, fertile, breeder women with enhanced mammaries. At least that's my going theory as to why I cannot find a companion. Nice poem anyways :)

Dude!
You introvert youngins have it so easy these days, you either stalk her on facebook or simply hand her a piece of paper with your email address on it, it doesn't even have to be your main one!
you chat her up ONLINE, then deal with the face to face stuff later.

On the other hand I suppose the bar pickup skills of the introvert population are rapidly deteriorating.
