Short intro: I'm indy/19/m/AZ

Long intro: I'm Scott... and i don't like typing stuff about myself, but here goes.

I was born in Phoenix, 6/36/85. My parents are Canadian, but my dad has to live here because of his asthma. I grew up here and i still am not used to the heat, and i doubt im ever going to. I dislike the summers because its so hard to sleep at night.

Anyway, I am an intp and have extreme dislike of attention. I am shy, but i do enjoy partaking in 1on1 conversation. Any more people and nothing gets accomplished. I am working on college, but its not going to well because college is basically paying for mandatory social interaction and mind numbing force fed "facts." How fun. I just cant wait for it to finish, assuming i find something to major in eventually. Currently its Accounting, but that may change again. I wish I wasn't in a place subject to rules needed to control others lacking self control :(

As for hobbies, i am currently reading about string theory, and some other sci fi stuff. I am also eagerly awaiting the fire fly series based movie Serenity, but its still in early production. I also am an avid bowler, with hopes of going pro. It is my passion and I am proud to say i know much more than any sane person should know about it. I probably spend 15+ hours a week at the bowling alley. I also spend 4 housr a day playing poker online, but not for money, yet.

I also watch alot of movie and am very opinionated about them

I work a mind numbingly mundane job full time right now. I can't wait until the spring when will go back to the CPA office i work at.

I might add some more info later. I feel like going read "the elegant universe' some more.

PS i like blue led's B)

I can relate perfectly. I hate mandatory social interaction, and I find it nearly impossible to function under these circumstances.
I couldn't stand college either, they move too slow and tend to drag things out to a point where they are unbearable.

If you went to a higher-powered university that went quicker through material, would that help either of you, or is it something more fundemental about universities that turns you off to them?

I tried that for my first year. I went to Kettering University for EE/CE because it has a co-op program. I took some engineering specific classes my second semester and spent 3 months at an intership at Microchip. It was alright, but the classes were still too boring and I found out about half way through the first internship term that i had learned most of the stuff that I would need to know to do some of the projects. I didn't like it because while it was fun playing with all the micro controllers and doing stuff with it, it just didnt hold my interest and near the end of the term, I found myself sleeping at work and wanting nothing more that to go home and go bowling or do something relevant. It bothered me that i had just learned all the technical stuff to work there and i still had all the bs at school that even though it was for the required major, it wasnt going to be relevant to work. Sorry for the rant/run on paragraph.

I guess thats why i gave up engineering, I just saw it being a confined freedom. Regardless of what i was doing, I would still be subject to the whims of a superior.
The thing that bothers me about universities is even if i have classes i enjoy, it is still way to slow paced no matter how fast it goes. Being as fast a learner as I am, its just not feasible for class to go at my desired pace.

It is a really fascinating book. It is infinitely more interesting than the nova series because there is much more detail and good examples. I'm about half way through it right now. After i finish, I am going to read the follow to it, "The fabric of the Cosmos" I hope its just as good.

I have been reading for a few weeks now, but i rarely post unless there is something i know about.

I'm going to get both these books soon--can't wait to delve into them!

And...hello, indy! :hello:

... and the material isn't interesting enough to seek a deeper understanding of it, right? For me, I can learn the material presented in a class and find it slow, yet get mediocre grades because I simply didn't try to understand what I was learning on a deeper level. I think it was just that the material didn't hold me. I'm glad I have physics, it gets more and more interesting to me as I learn more about it instead of less so.

My major is electrical engineering. Certainly, when first graduating, you will very likely not get a job as an electrical engineer. Actual electrical engineering requires a hefty bag of knowledge and experience. The good thing for me is my career goal is videogame programming and design, so I don't have to worry about it. Yay. I go to a three-year school, which has a year-around schedule. Each semester is about fifteen weeks, and the pace is fine. I am happy because things like little light-searching robots with their complex-looking circuitry, computers, and walkie-talkies have been entirely demystified. And, I know I am capable of building these things myself. Of course, actually doing them is something else, but it is only experience that I need now, not a massive body of knowledge I completely lacked two years ago. XD

Im refering to the time spent in class. A majority of the professors I had, actually all of them, made attendance mandatory, and most were not partial to me totally ignoring what was going on in class while i read something I want to, regardless of whether its related to the class. GRanted, I have only finished 1 year so i cant exactly say that any of my classes were more interesting that my hobbies. Naturally, outside of class, I spent time on those hobbies, and thus viewed class as a waste of time.

I do understand your point, but the fact of the matter is, most of the time to do well in the class, I had to pay attention and participate and I am not very good at splitting my focus on both class and something else. It is one thing at a time.
