New guy here... mainly interested in careers other INTP's have chosen. I read through the ones listed on the websites but those are all things I'd NEVER want to do

It's nice to be here and I look forward to meeting everyone!

hi
What kind of things would you want to do?

My passion is Urban Planning and it's the career I'm trying to move into. I'm in a related profession at the moment but not quite a planner.

Here's a great description of what it involves: http://www.bls.gov/k12/social05.htm

Does this sound like something an INTP could do?

Anything that involves 'solving problems' and 'being in an office' alot (aka not around a lot of people all the time) sounds good..but this part:
Planners have to work quickly to get their work finished because they have many other plans to make. sounds like it would be the hard part of the job for an INTP. Although the pressure to conclude projects might turn out to be beneficial.

Thanks for your input!

To be honest, the part of being a planner that I'm really not looking forward to is that they have to attend city council meetings. During the meetings, they have to make public presentations to officials and citizens about why they are doing what they're doing, defend their ideas and put up with irrate people from other groups. They're also on the phone a lot. I would love everything else the job involves but these two things worry me.

Right now I have a job where I am left alone and hardly have to deal with the public at all. I have my own space to do my work and nobody bothers me. I like it this way :) Just wish I made more money :(

well you know what they say, what doesn't kill you makes you stronger. It will probably turn out to be a good thing in the long run because you'll learn to be more confident and a better speaker...if it doesn't drive you to an insane asylum, first.

Agreed; although I'm happy that I'm in a low-pressure environment, deadline-type pressure would definitely force me to be more productive and efficient (as evidenced by the fact that I'm typing this post instead of an invoice).

I prefer 'what doesn't kill me makes me stranger'. Fits me better.
