Ligue Odebi, an association that seeks to protect freedom of expression on the Internet, said the measure will also hinder citizens' abilities to expose police brutality.

"This makes France the Western country that most infringes on freedom of expression and information -- particularly on the Internet," the group said in a statement on its Web site, www.odebi.org

So if I see the police beating someone up, I can't film it? Creepy. Seems like a curb on the media to me.

EDIT surely if you're going to beat someone up and film it, you won't be deterred by the fact that it's illegal to film it!:stupid:

France is a quite a mess, at least politically.

How many people are going to actually suffer over not being able to put fights of their friends on the Internet?
Definitely not the amount of those that waste a hospital's time by fighting.

This is absolutely retarded. The existing laws against assault were completely adequate I'm sure - and putting a video of assault online would *already* count as evidence against you and aggravating circumstances.
This is yet another government measure that seems like it will "make a difference" to people who don't have the critical thinking abilities to decide what they want on a sandwhich, while actually being pretty damaging.

Politics in a nutshell!

I didn't know the French knew how to fight anyway. [/Anti-Gallic sentiment]

It's probably Algerians who do it, they like beating the French after all.
