A friend of mine is doing a web site dedicated to NTs, and he decided to inform me of the MBTI. I took the test and found out that I was an INTP. When I read the descriptions--it was like a slap in the face. No other test has been able to nail down my personality so well. And, because of friends deciding that it was fun to take them and share the results, I have taken several of them.

I am a programmer--or will be in the future. I have found that no matter what game, program, or piece of code that I come across, that I always attempt (and usually succeed) at finding out how and why they did one thing or the other. But that wasn't what really got me on the test, what really got me was that it said that we (INTPs) are philosophers. That we enjoy to think about things that noone else wants to start to know. I at one point in my life wanted to become a philosopher, and before that I wanted to become an engineer. So my whole life can be shortened down into these 5 paragraphs that I read that describes one of the rarest 'types' of people on the planet.

So now that I've told my little story, I guess I'll give the standard information that everyone wants to know.

Hello from one programmer INTP to another. :hello:

I know you weren't asking me, file_cabinet, but I'm primarily a Java programmer. I really like the language, personally.

I've been involved in many, though most I just dabbled in enough to be able to read it and write basic code.

However, I am currently heavily involved in PHP (and from there I'm moving to C++, which I have dabbled in alot over the years).

Edit: I want to learn some more Java...it seems like a very useful language for small apps, games, etc.

Oh, and if any of you programming types like competition-style programming contests, I highly reccommend competing at TopCoder (http://www.topcoder.com/tc). They allow you to use several different languages, so you can use whatever you're best at. And I find it fun to improve my algorithm skills in a timed, competitive environment.

Just my suggestion.

dreka, I do PHP.. I'm pretty bored of it now though. I am doing more JavaScript as of late which I am enjoying. What sort of PHP are you doing currently?

Well, currently I'm developing a php driven gaming site for some friends of mine.

The url is www.dreka.com/newsite/

Other than that, not much, but I've learned alot doing this from scratch.

Edit: Note that the site isn't completed yet :\

mmm. if you want to do other php stuff, intpcentral is looking for more developers, just post in the labs forum if you're interested.
I found a bug:

I wouldn't recommend including a file based on a get string. I usually idle in #intp if you have any PHP related questions.

I recommend this forum for PHP, I usually answer some questions there(good for either searching it or asking a question)
http://www.codingforums.com/forumdisplay.php?f=6

I recommend this PHP mailing list, better than the php mailing list from php.net which has an excessive amount of emails:

Hello Dreka :hello:

Does the site exist yet, or is your friend still developing it?

Ah yeah, the cmu entp guy. I like the site's design. A bit sparse on original content at this point but a cool idea.

Ah yeah, the cmu entp guy.
Is he gone already? I thought he'd last close to a week.

hello Derek
Hmm... I used to score in almost every test as INTp (sometimes INTj) but after reading more about the MBTI thing I realized I'm more ENTp. Although I fit very well the INTp type profile and to a lesser extent some other types. So I wondered if you read other types profiles and if you think the INTp fits you best?

Oh great another programmer... ;P
Welcome.

Programmers make the web go round :P
And the programs you use to write these messages ^_^

As for helping with development projects: I'd be happy to offer my (limited) knowledge about programming. But right now I have hardly any time because I'm still working on this new site :D
