Thus, he starts a topic to discuss the overabundance of topics. Gotta love the irony.

I think there are way too many forums, but too many topics? How is that possible?

And the "new posts" page is your friend. I often don't even know what forum I'm currently in because I enter the thread from the new posts page. Like right now, I have no idea which forum this is. Oh, suggestion box. Cool. *shrug*

How about some suggestions for a new forum layout? I couldn't think of one quickly so I mostly stopped being annoyed by the huge number of forums.

You should start Lexiphanic Central and bask in the peace.

Use the New Posts icon to see what's currently hot. I hardly ever browse through the main menu anymore.

I think it's somewhat ironic that INTPs use the New Posts "to see what's currently hot". Not that it's bad or anything, it just seems odd. It's how I got here...

So, if nobody uses the current subject grouping it obviously isn't broken and doesn't need to be changed.

You're just jealous of all my inane comments when all you have are quotes.

do you mean there's to many forum categories? we went over this a couple months ago, then trimmed a few.. then added two more in the past couple weeks.
you can click on this image to shrink the forums you don't want to see http://forums.intpcentral.com/images/buttons/collapse_tcat.gif

That's hardly a solution, though, because then we're totally barred from the threads in those forums. Also, you can only block entire sections, which makes it even more unrealistic.

*shrugs* the more the merrier for me.
having more threads means less posts on a thread unless its a really hot topic, (at least more distraction so people dont overpost) and thus having it read more often by people interested in the particular thing. come on, if there's 10 pages on a thread no one's usually gonna read it all...or do u?:D meh, a lot of stuff is still going away unread by everyone but you can at least read what ur really into...

I think you guys are missing the point...we all have a lot to say about a lot of stuff.

LET THE PEOPLE SPEAK. *to the crowd from his soap box*

I hope you are happy now.

He's talking about having fewer categories. How would that prevent anyone from creating more threads?

You would just see all the activity in less places instead of being scattered about in 12-15 different sub forums.

Personally my opinion is that it is quite loud, especially with most of the single line or single word replies (notice people who've been here a month with >500 posts? I've been here for 3 or 4 now and I don't even have 200 :) ). The categories at least help to split it up a little bit so the noise isn't just in one or two forums, makes it easier to see what's new. I can also just totally ignore some, like the sports forum. I couldn't really care less how many forums/categorise there are...but I think we're about on the mark honestly.

I blame ...Of Souls for the >500 posts. There actually aren't that many people over >500 and I think for the "most" part (get the quotations) we all have had or can have fairly large posts and lots of them.

My biggest post days actually happen when I get into a fun pissing contest with someone (booyalab).

You're being lynched so you can't have an opinion. Besides, you find humor and insight in all the topics, so I would rather not have threads be hard to get to just because of subject.

*limping*

"DAMN YOUS, DAMN YOUS ALL TO HELL."

I think there is a pretty good balance on here between forums and threads. It would suck if we had the bulk of stuff in the Local Pub and other forums with not very many threads. And if there is "enough" (and believe me that word is hard to define) interest in something I don't see why it shouldn't have its own forum.

FEWER places....less is quantity in volume, fewer refers directly to numbers

As long as it means fewer forum topics.

I think new threads are great, especially when the topic is different from an existing thread. :)

Edit : that might sound like criticism, but it's not -- I'm really just wondering what the next threads will be, and bumping this, just because.
