I was thinking of adding the ability for users to comment on the old threads, sort of how you can comment on someone's blog, you would be able to leave comments on the old threads.. what are you thoughts? agree? disagree?

sure, that'd be easy, although I'm sure I would have to make it optional since not everyone would want to receive when one of the archived thread.. but what's a p.i.t.a.
I'll probably have to create a sort of separate user interface to handle anything not directly involved with the forum but all authentication would go through phpbb so then there wouldn't be multiple logins and such.. ... . . .. .. yeah...

maybe it would just be better for us to merely rate the old threads on a scale of 1 - 5 rather then giving the ability to post comments on them.. ?

Well, wouldn't the simplist thing to do be to make the Archive a sub-forum of it's own ( entitled say, INTPforum Archive ) ? Then people could access it normally if they needed to & reply as normal to anything they found there. If they wanted to. :hello:

anyway, I am leaning toward just making it possibly to rate the old threads.. mainly because the data isn't in the db and just letting the past stay in the past. if you want to talk about an old thread then you can just link to it in a new thread posted here. although I'm not fully decided but the archive is just that, an archive.. no reason to stir up the dead.

Don't think I'm unappreciative, but who the hell would go there ? I've got the forums.index bookmarked ( http://www.intpcentral.com/forums/index.php ) and wouldn't ever find that front-end. And if I did, I couldn't possibly read it.
