Do you know of any "unusual teams" ?

Every once in a while I'll read about a group that's doing things together that are totally cool, and i'll think "I wish that these people were near me. I would want to join them." In one case, I did do so.

For example, there's this team of guys who improvise how they can do nutty things as a group. For example, they all got hold of clothes that fit them, and which resembled the "uniform" of Best Buy people in NYC. I think it was a blue "sports shirt" ( why do people call shirts that ? How do "sports" figure in to the look ? ) and a pair of tan khakis. One by one the improvisers slowly filtered in to the Best Buy they had selected. Soon there were about 30 of them spread out in the store. They would help customers out if asked, but never actually said they worked there. They would also leave if asked, so that they could not legally be accused of "trespassing", which led to many interesting confrontations where security people were doing everything BUT asking them to leave. The video is funny. ( I posted it on another thread. I'll look for it. No one noticed it at the time because I didn't make it the subject of its own thread. )

Another team is called "Survival Research Labs", and they make automatons which can do damage, using surplus military equipment. Then they have these robots fight each other in big public arenas. It will sometimes get broken up by the authorities even though they've often secured permission.
The old website used to be www.srl.org. I talked to the founder once. Interesting guy.

Many cities have "urban exploration" teams where you go out on weekends and explore abandoned places, like factories and mental hospitals etc. I was with one of these in Chicago, but....that's another story.

The Improv team's latest shenanigans was to go to see an "unknown" band that was on its first tour, with the normal crowd being mostly friends and relatives on opening night, and hardly anyone on a Sunday. These 30 guys and ladies show up with T-shirts with the band's name on it, and high fiving each other and cheering, etc. LOL

That's god damn hilarious! I ought to try that. I've first heard about such things when I read about Pala... Palahniuk... The guy that wrote 'fight club'. He based 'project mayhem' on such groups, as he was a member of such a group at one time.

Although, I don't like it when they do rather annoying stuff like spraying people with water guns. That would really fuck up my day.

This sort of reminds me of flash mobs. Flooding a department store or something and giving themselves a round of applause, totally pointess but funny. Think there have been some big pillow fight ones too.

I've always wanted to do urban exploring in a team. I've done some in old bunkers/forts (underground and above-ground ones) and a tunnel complex from the WW2-era, but i've never been able to do it with some kind of organized team etc.. =S
I'm thinking about moving to some other place where things like this exist.. My life don't totally depend on it or something, but it'd be fun ^^

I was just about to write about them.

I was too lazy to ever do one.

www.improveverywhere.com

My favourite ones are: the moebius, the one with anton checkov, and the one where they give free tours of the fountain.

The one with the unknown band kuranes mentions is on the site as well - I don't think it's the same one, as it's actually the very first mission these guys did. The others probably took the idea from them.

This reminds me of the comedian team that pranked the superbowl (http://www.zug.com/pranks/super/index06.html)
Long story short, these guys snuck into the superbowl with some ungodly number(~2500?) of blue necklace lights. They got past security and then told a bunch of people to turn them on during the half-time show to spell "Prince". Instead they spelled the name of their website zug.com.

I'm skeptical about it's authenticity though because site talks about how the media is trying to cover it up. Still, they got some stuff like the improv team.
