They are random. It counts how many checkboxes there are, then counts how many have been checked and works out the percentage.

true that, i got 12%, while i have friends who fit into the 'geek' subculture i also have friends who fit into the 'cool' subculture and so with both hating eachother and tugging on me every which way i have resigned to a semi-balanced state between subcultures with no need to want to associate myself further with either. groups = predictable, transparent, shallow, boring - and also i think that i'm in denial of being an attention whore... The test was good, but here is the really fun part of the site:

Go to the "Fun Stuff" section, and fill in all of the words to generate a Custom Geek Story. The results can be hilarious. In spite of filling in all of the parts of speech correctly, grammatical weirdness can still result, but even the screwy grammar is funny.

Here is the story that came out when I put in a variety of random words as they came into my head:

------------------------

A long time ago, there was strife in the kingdom of Terra Mustelarum.
The homeless people wanted their freedom from the weird Great Hierophant. The weird Great Hierophant, however, had different plans. He wanted to deconstruct the homeless people to despise for the Weasel of Doom. The people of Terra Mustelarum gathered in the local whorehouse to dominate the toad. The elder biologist spoke first. We must poison the Great Hierophant, who is now more hysterical than weird!!! Who will join me? I will, shouted Eadweard, the kingdom's salesman. I think your idea is malevolently Weasel of Doom, said the local philosopher. I'm too dreamy for this slime-mold, anyway. SimCity is a better waste of my muon. The GM oiled his uvula on the pumpkin. Lo!! Why don't you go play Kick-the-Nerd with Roundworm-brain if you don't like the way we play Dungeons & Dragons! You're such a Major Geek, Heather.

--------------------------------------

The fact that I couldn't stop laughing when I read this would be quite troubling or totally mystifying to a more "normal" person. I exalt in weirdness.

Try this. It's fun.

I was pleased to see they had a reasonably broad definition of 'geeky' that went beyond computers and sci fi. I got up to 14% mainly on the strength of love for trivia and literature, and a very geeky knowledge of grammar.
But that's a good point, Opera is a glaring omission. Geek.

I think geekiness is a matter of one's interests and dorkiness is a matter of one's mannerisms.

My personal definition of geek is someone who is far more into something than I am. :D There are millions of geeks out there who are not called geeks because their interests are mainstream -- sports geeks, soap opera geeks, money geeks, etc.
