View Full Version : Naming threads and the post count

The forum move messed up the post counts, and now when they're restored, it seems there is an abundance of people who are over the threshold, 250 posts. That would mean an invasion of naming (http://www.intpcentral.com/index.php?mode=archive&a=thread&thread=112) threads.
So, I guess the bar should be raised. To at least 300, but maybe 350 would be good. I know I'm spoiling the fun for those who are near or just a little over 250, but... :P

What if only one person was named every set amount of time, and the unnamed person with the most posts was the one named each time? If there was no one unnamed with more than 250 posts at a naming opportunity, than it would be skipped. If there were a lot of people passing the 250 mark constantly, the minimum post number would automatically float to an acceptable range. To control it, if it was nessisary, you would modify the naming opportunity period length.
This is just one way to do it so you don't have to keep moving the post number minimum around.

I speak for all of us here  when I say I scarcely think it matters to us, we did not join to gain little pieces of tin to stick on our lapels. I was gratified to reach 250, but gaining a title was the last thing on my mind. Make it 350, or 400, or whatever: none of us will mind.
Yeah, I think it should be a bit harder to win, actually. And so long as the word Freicorps goes in somewhere, it won't matter how long I wait... :D :D :D

It's called "Flare" in more corporate environments and if it were me naming you, the spelling and grammatical errors would be so numerous you'd be able to read it upside-down. :D

If the naming were changed to a time limit, what would you do about the people who post a couple times during the set period? Having a number of posts insures that everyone knows who it is that is being named.
I do believe there is a percentage of total posts- perhaps that could figure instead of/in addition to? Percentages atomatically adjust themselves to the total number of posts.

I was actually going for administrative ease.

350 posts required for a name. Post count is a straightforward, easy way to determine who needs to be named next.
The naming certainly isn't (or shouldn't be  ) the reason people join this forum.
I like.
And it also means we're growing. :)

There are so many users to be named.
You may jack up the post count, but they are still going to reach that level at the same time.
