As I see it, this bill wants to make CD-R, all digtal media players, my beloved iPod, and anything else that can possibily hold illegal music illegal. This is sick.

From the article:

....the bill would effectively outlaw peer-to-peer networks and prohibit the development of new technologies...

I would say it has everything to do with this and hardly anything else.

Since when did anyone in government care about the rights of the "entertainment industry"?

This is why I think the Senate and Congress needs an even age distribution. The people in power now have more than likely never even used an MP3 player. We need an accurate representation of the population governing the population.

I don't think age has anything to do with this. Believe me you will finally get to be the same age as those governing you soon enough! LOL
What happned to that INTP logic here? That was an emotional respnse.
You might be very suprised what 'old' people do and buy.
I read the article (after blocking a download of Avenue A) and see that this is not a done deal at all. And there is that Supreme Court decision to back it up.
As for the topic, I personally think people should be paid for their work as I like getting paid for mine and cicumventing copyright laws deprive them of that. I sure wouldn't want my creative efforts stolen.

Actually, it wasn't an emotional response. I have advocated for age distribution for a long time, in many posts.

I think a lot of curtural lag could be avoided by doing this. Why should I have people using the social standards of generalions controlling the government? We're supposed to represent everyone.

Well..I'm not familiar with your other posts to put it in another context. That's just the way it read to me. MP3 players are used by people of different ages, primarily younger people as they listen to the most music. They have time! LOL But it doesn't make stealing intellectual property right.
There's a lot more wrong than just age or sex distribution in how this country is run, however, so I don't think that would solve or change much. I truly think people need real life experience before they go into politics. Real life experience, not just living off a trust fund.
Think a bit. What types go into politics?

The problem with this isn't the government "stopping copyright infringement", but the possibility of them stopping the advancement of technologies that are also used for legal purposes. Even MP3s are not illegal, and there are MANY bands that have legal mp3s. As for if the bill will actually work even if it is passed, I doubt it. The internet isn't owned by the United States and everyone who uses it is not under the US's laws about copyrights. Even if they shut down all the major p2p networks in the US, what about the foreign ones? I admit to file trading, but I do almost all of it privately and don't think this bill would affect me much even if it did pass. What are they going to do about that? Start spying on my conversations and log everything I do on the internet?

Jim and I have pondered about Psychic Idea Theft (PIT). It seems that we always find our ideas appearing in products not long after we come up with them. It seems that nothing is original, so I wouldn't worry about someone "stealing" "your" "creations."

Are you an artist or an entrepreneur?

Good god! THat's... dumb. Unreasonable. It's not like people are trying to SELL illegal music...*grumble*

Thank Senator Orrin Hatch, who has a couple of creepy albums and is very worried about people stealing them.

This bill can't pass. If for none other than the fact that if read the right way, the Internet would be outlawed, and fat chance of that happening.
