View Full Version : Rice as Secretary of State
Seems like she is really taking a pounding by the Senate right now.
Do you think she is being groomed for some higher position?
Also, will she be an effective Secretary of State? She seems to tow the party line a lot and that didn't seem to work so well for Powell (I think he sees that now) and I wonder if that could be detrimental to the rest of the countries that America seems to be "aiming is sights" at.
What do you guys think?

By higher position, do you mean president? Doubtful. The Republican are very cynical and I think they will use her the way they used Powell and she will be diminished by the experience. WRT Sec of State, she is a Soviet expert. The Bush admin seems to see everything in cold war terms which seems a bit bizzare to me. Its like the saying that we always prepare for the last war. Except in this case, he neo cons want to drag history backward to a day when they felt safe. The 1950s, the beginning of the cold war generally fits that bill, except for social security that has chafed them since the 30s. Anyway, Rice is out of sync with the real world.
I think it would be funny if they re-built the Berlin Wall, just to help bring back the glory days.

I think it would be funny if they let Saddam loose to restore order in Iraq.

Are they letting him run for president? It seems only fair. And I don't think Rice will ever be president as she's black, female, and republican. It's just too confusing.

Now that Richard Clark, Paul O'Neil, Colin Powell, and nearly all of the other members of the hated "reality-based community" are gone and the CIA has been purged, is there anyone left to bring Bush and his fellow machiavellian idealogues back down to Earth?
Even better, Rice will tell Bush everything he wants to hear rather than what he ought to hear, and Gonzales will ensure that our star-spangled rape rooms continue unabated and its architects will never be brought to justice.
Maybe their hubris will lead to a second-term meltdown.
I haven't heard anything about Rice being groomed for a higher position, but I don't see any reason why that wouldn't be the case. That's a good observation, mgbradsh.
I have heard that Gonzales may be being groomed for a position on the Supreme Court. Yeah, the guy who wrote the memos authorizing torture on the Supreme Court. Say anything against it and you're a racist Latino-hater.

I guess Bush being so insular makes the Daily Show continually more interesting.

It would be ironic if he won the election; in fact why wouldn't he? He won unanimously in their last election! Boy, wouldn't Georgie W's face be red!
