What was your experience with it? Was there any model which worked best for you as an INTP? Has ayone had a negative experience with it and think it ill advised?

Decent experience. Short-lived. I went in order to investigate my social anxiety. The first person I saw was great. Very open, accepting, and on the younger side. That was through school, which ended after 2 sessions, so I went to see another, who pissed me off. :) She interrupted by train of thought, sat too close, and would ask me nonsensical questions like "how did that make you feel?" What an idiot.

Seriously, it's a good experience, in my opinion. I would interview a couple therapists to find out what their approach would be, whether they've had experience in your situation, and most importantly, to see what the chemistry between you two is like. Do you feel comfortable and understood, or are you having to explain yourself too much?

I went once, because I was stressing out after deciding not to pursue a degree in computer technology (Cobol 2 was over my head), after having poured tons of mental effort for 1 1/2 years and feeling it was a waste of time, and also my brother died at that time, so I felt a bit depressed. I hated it, this counseler/psychologist woman started making me feel like I needed to be on some antidepressant, and I knew better. I really just needed to make some better decisions, and get through the hard times, NOT start an antidepressant. I refused to try any sort of antidepressant of course, and I also learned how much I regretted having TOLD her anything, and I was not the type that felt better telling anyone how I felt.

Lesson: From then on, I knew my best therapy option would be to write out my feelings and take the piece of paper and burn it so nobody could ever read it. Voila, that truly works for me. The mild circumstantial depression gradually dissapated, and I chose another field of study, accounting and things started going much better thereafter. And, I opt for self help and metaphysical help and writing also if I need to get something out of my head and onto paper, that does the most for me. Once its on paper, I no longer feel I need to think about it, and writing helps me get through almost anything.

I've had two INFJ therapists when I was younger. The greatest benefit of that was finding someone I could discuss ideas with.
