Just thought of this...
Anybody in Calgary, Alberta with a D&D game that could use an extra player? I have the 3.5 core rule books, but I can try to get a hold of others for which ever version you play.
Like I was saying, come to melbourne =p
xD

Do you have a local university? Most universities have a society devoted to this, and many will let outsiders in so long as you pay a fee.

Still don't have the resources, though flattered I could still be wanted in this world

There is and I've looked them up, I just wanted to try here first due to an irrational sense of familiarity compared to an institution I have absolutely no history with.

Is Coventry England too far to travel for a Monday evening?
You know just in case you fancy a game in the next few hours.

Somehow in the last few days I've been really feeling like to RPG some. Too bad I don't have the time / people...
Edit: If I had the language skills I'd suggest to start a forum-RPG somewhere around here.

I've already PM'd Runvardh my standard Neverwinter Nights online persistant RP world advertisement. Anyone else wants it, let me know.

Gah! Why does all the good stuff have to be so damn far away. A flight from Toronto to London is like 10 hours if I remember right and that's just the crossing the Atlantic part. Toronto is something like a 3 hour flight from here and I'm not sure how I'd be getting from London to Coventry...
It's 12 pm now here, so that's 7pm for you Xander. You guys are probably playing already

Your skills aren't that bad, doesn't take that much grammatical decryption to understand you.

Well, in this case....
Anyway I meant that in a forum RPG people (hopefully) tend to write a bit more literary and those spicy words are probably missing from that stupid online dictionary I'm using. So it would take me even more time to read/write anything like it already does.
If we seriously want to play a forum RPG here, we would need the followings:
- a "forum RPG" subforum under "The Community" for example. We would need a bunch of threads in "forum RPG", such as Rules, Offtopic(OOC), and threads for the actual campaigns, a thread for character descriptions maybe, etc.
- a mod and/or moderator privileges for some of us over the "forum RPG" in order to retain flaming or inappropriate (e.g. OOC) posts.
Some thoughts about forum RPG in general:
In nature it is much closer to writing a short story together than furiously clicking the mouse button say in WoW. It is even quite different from playing table RPG: instead of
"I attack with my long sword"
you'll probably want to write:
*Ruat stood at the dark corridor. His fingers constrained around the grip of his sword.*
- How dare you? *he whispered. The noble didn't seem frightened. A haughty grin ran across his face as he turned his back on the mercenary. He started towards the stairs. One of his bodyguards escorted him while the other remained at the corridor. ~ I don't have much time. ~ thought Ruat and he decided upon a desperate act.*
- You shall burn in hell! *he shouted after the outgoing noble. He jumped towards the bodyguard meanwhile drawing his sword. He hoped to trick his opponent so that he may go after the noble. Maybe his unexpected attack will cause the bodyguard to defend and Ruat would be able to get through him without losing valuable time fighting him.*
Note the conditional frame. It's suggested to leave space for your playing partners / DM (if any) to shape events (especially when player vs player).
There should be different threads/campaigns for different worlds. Yet the worlds should be less specific in order to remain flexible. This is only my opinion, someone may start a specific campaign too but I think most of us know different worlds and I don't think there'd be so may of us anyways.
Since we lack the dice, strict rules can't work. What your character is able to do and what he/she/it isn't is subject to rational discretion. Maybe this won't be a problem amongst INPTs :).
There are still many things to discuss but this is enough for now I think...
There used to be an rpg running here, it stopped, can't remember why
was it you running it ape ?

I looked briefly into starting up a game a little while ago. I've actually been thinking about getting into the latest ruleset from White Wolf - I was a fan of the original Vampire, and after a hiatus am thinking about getting back into it (or possibly one of their other genres built into the World of Darkness system). I'd also be up for some D&D, but I'd need to get the more recent books if we were playing with anything except the original AD&D stuff.
I found there were several different options for remote gaming.
Play by post is one - the upside is that it works well for people in multiple time zones, the downside is that it takes a really long time for things to happen, and games (from several I've looked at elsewhere) seem to fizzle out, possibly because attention wanes.
Play by chat is another - this has the immediacy that PBP lacks, but it does require scheduling (not unlike having a regular game with friends IRL).
There's an application out there called OpenRPG (http://www.openrpg.com) that extends basic chat capabilities with die rolling and the ability to display images (like maps). I haven't tested it yet, but it looks good.
One thing that occurred to me about chat is that it might be a pain for the DM to have to enter long text descriptions, so it might be a good idea to combine something like OpenRPG with an application like Skype.
have rerequested rpg subforum for this purpose

Kai ran one but then disappeared. I believe that Kuranes was looking into new online roleplay stuff but he's disappeared too now :(

That's why I suggested to play in a rather loose setting/world. Everyone can imagine a generic elven archer while only a few may know the exact parameters of a 4th level elven ranger DND3.5 .

I'd stick with this for now cause I'm only interested in thisone :).
This alone has several variations.
- Semi real time: this is similar to play by chat, only the posts are longer and they don't vanish
- Campaign oriented: I think this is the standard play by post method people think of first. This one is fun but it's drawbacks are that it's hard to join and it's even harder to get off. So this method often leads to "fizzle out, possibly because attention wanes". In ideal case every player writes a post / 1-3 days.
- Place oriented: In this type the events concentrate about a given location (a tavern, a castle, prison, arena, etc). Advantage is that anyone may join / leave at any time. Even, if someone doesn't respond for a longer time it can be assumed that he left. This type may be played semi real time too (but not necessarily). Also several "parties" may play at the same place paralelly, even interacting with eachother. A drawback is that potential is limited to that particular location but this can be worked around if multiple places exist and players may travel between the different places :).

My introduction to RP started with post by post, then I picked up chat, then live action, and finally MMORPG. When it comes to my experience in post by post it usually goes down when the person who is supposed to be in charge loses interest or is unable to post much. Without a direction most games collapse in one way or another.
Game up and running, join up if you are interested.

Perhaps someone else could run a more medieval game at the same time for those interested ?

You mean in "Adventures in Ultraville", in NoahFense's NW game or in "The Arena"?
