Whadda write? Any particular models you follow (12 tone, species, ...)?
Me - modern 'art' music. I was born a classical snob. Taking lessons again after a long hiatus. I'm presently writing Stravinsky-ish little ditties, I aspire to larger architectonic (oh yea) pieces, like a Nielsen-ish symphony.

cool. sounds like a great talent/gift to have.
what's the "climate" around the acceptance of works by Nielsen and friends?
i've always stood by it, at great peril though...

Hi sorabji,
No idea. I don't have any plans to publish anything. Eventually I'm sure I'll submit my stuff, but I intentionally separate my meal ticket from composing. I write what I like.
The only difficulty is time, but I'm looking toward an very early retirement to spend composing.

No other takers? I'm surprised - I thought composing was INTP fun at its best.

I compose music. I tend to use counterpoint and standard western chord theory. I'm working towards writing more Shostakovichian music.
I mainly write things for string instruments (http://kylem.net/pages/projects/music_comp.html) because I have somewhat easy access to musicians, but recently I've been helping with the music for a musical and have an odd orchestration of oboe/english horn, piano, viola, cello, electric bass (today I had to made two short themes for it and put them together into a crude waltz http://kylem.net/~kyle/public/waltz.mp3)
What was Stravinsky's style for composing? I'm really not up-to-date with tone rows and other 20th century musical mechanisms.

Hi kmill,
Stravinsky seems to use collections (instead of definite modes or keys) and block construction to contrast ideas against each other.

I'm a composer in training--majoring in composition at Wheaton College. I can't really say what I write, since I'm still finding a niche--I like jazz, though. More recently I've been listening to some contemporary composers, Ligeti and Arvo Part...maybe I'll put some stuff up here eventually, but good to hear there are other INTPs making things that are good to hear.

I write music sporadically. Most of the time I end up improvising on my instrument and not getting much of anything down, but soon I'll be diverting my attention away from technique and more into finishing some actual songs. I've just been thinking about my approach and influences a whole lot.
Might do some neo-classical stuff, but nothing in classical format.

I've composed many things. My most recent being a short work for piano and solo cello.

I'm composing a 10 album series. Published the first album last year and I'm working on the second one. I call it ERADECA. It is an epic saga following the stories of ten generations of one family.

I never really did anything beyond Music Theory in high school. Our final was a 12 piece minimum, 5 minute long piece.

So far I've done short assignments on paper, but for a longer project I typed up and elaborated paper notation with Sibelius software.

I produce everything out of Logic Pro 7. I usually manually draw in notes with the matrix editor.
