Gorbachev is new face of Louis Vuitton

Shot by photographer Annie Leibovitz, the ads focus on travel ? a "core value" for the company that started in 1854 as a trunk-maker, the statement said.

All the Russians I have spoken to say he is a fool. Apparently Putin is their most competent leader since Stalin.

Talk about damning with faint praise - the most competent leader since the biggest killer in European history!

These are Russians we are talking about. All their best leaders have cracked skulls and got things done.

Yes they aren't known for being nice I suppose. I saw Putin give a speech once, at an ecconomic development forum in Sochi. Nice part of the world, but the corruption there would make Nigeria blush.

I suppose Louis Vuitton has always been a been ironic- in the sense that it tends to mock its own fashion line- a trend that started with Takahashi Murakami when he designed for LV in 2003

Gorbachev is very unpopular in Russia even though he has a positive world image. Which, I can say he had the right idea, and at his time most of the republics would have broken away no matter what he did. Still he screwed up pretty bad. Ironically he was born into a poor family, showing one of the successes of the Soviet system of government.

He's been in several commercials and that sort of thing before. One was McDonalds. Not very communistic but okay.

Putin is basically going with working with the mafia. Poorer people are getting progressively worse off and the population is now declining- something you couldn't even say about evil Stalin.

Still he is probably one of the better recent leaders. He's sincere about what he's doing, which, by the late Soviet years, wasn't very common.

Okay maybe not one of the better recent leaders but he's not the worst and he can blame Gorbachev for most problems, which helps with his image.
