I am enneagram type 8w9 according to several tests. I find this quite interesting reading over the descriptions of 8 and 9. Seems kind of like describing "No free will, just my will. You live in peace, under me." A scene out of 1984 or any other totalitarian society lol.
Does anyone know anyone else who is this type or if there are any INTPs who are the same type as myself. Are my results even statistically significant? It looks like I may be on the borderline. Humph.
Type 8 - 8.7
Type 1 - 8.3
Type 5 - 8.3
Type 9 - 8
Type 7 - 5
Wing 8w9 - 12.7
Wing 1w9 - 12.3
Wing 9w8 - 12.3
Wing 9w1 - 12.2
Wing 8w7 - 11.2
Wing 7w8 - 9.3
Wing 1w2 - 9.2
Wing 5w6 - 9.2
Wing 5w4 - 9
Wing 7w6 - 5.8

The first time I took an enneagram test, my results were 9w8 conscious and 8w9 conscious. I've taken several enneagrams since then and I'm quite sure that I'm a 5w4, but I do have a high 9 score.

I'm a Nine. Different tests give me different wings. I some Five-like traits, which brings me to this site day after day.
I don't understand your association of totallitarian society with the Nine personality profile. Online Enneagram material is so sketchy, it's almost worthless. If you want to make use of the Enneagram, check out "Personality Types" by Riso/Hudson from a library, were you can read some 35 pages about what a Nine is, or what other types are. Otherwise, it should be disregarded.
I can't say the Enneagram is useful or accurate. I thought I was 5w4 for a couple years and developed substantially off of it even though I'm more of a Nine. It, like all of personality theory to me, is an aid, core of nothing.

No no no, not nine alone. I ment the combination of nine and eight. Aggression and Peacemaking coming together, hence the whole: "No free will, just my will. You live in peace, under me." Don't think too much of it however, since I spout a lot of nonsense. I agree with disregarding it. I think it is just my dominant urges jumping out overriding what I really do anyways.

Do you think this works for you? Don't rely totally on tests, read about types to see which one is more "you"...

Oh yes I think it very much works, but I am more than one of a lot of things, so anything is questionable.

OH! I get it now. Is your Wing strong? I don't think Wings are usually very significant modifiers. I think people tend to vary in their expression of thier primary type more than a strong Wing varies from a negligable one.

I think it depends on what phase of your life you are in. I have a theory on this, but I don't want to get into it right now. There are however moments when your wing (or even your "other" wing) may scream out louder than your type.

I seem to have a buttload of wing - I display a lot of both 5 and 6 tendencies. I've also seen this virtual half-type-ness in other people. Supposedly 3's, 6's, and 9's often show lines more clearly than wings, although some have wings at least as strong as one of their lines. (I know of a 6w5 with both a very heavy 5 wing and a very heavy 9 line.) I don't see much in the way of lines at all for myself.

By "lines," do you mean the directions of integration and disintegration? I don't care too much for that theory. It seems to me that the theory was developed without regard to its practical application or truth in the real world, simply because people like Riso and Hudson wanted it to work because it made such a neat little pattern.
By the way, being an 8w9 means you're the same type as Martin Luther King Jr. and Darth Vader.

Wow, Martin Luther King, yuck. However there isn't really a main type. really. Meow.
Don't worry, I only think MLK is yuck because he was, kind of, dumb. Then again isn't everybody. I just don't want to be at all associated with someone like that. His Idea's were pretty good though, I suppose.

Yeah, I meant integration/disintegration. It's supposed to give that funky star-like figure actual significance in the personality system. I can't see it to any degree that can't be chalked up to just having tendencies of all the types anyway; 7 is usually in the middle for me and 8 is at or near the bottom. So it looks unlikely that I have any "special connection" to these types. Even the type I claim is only a best-fit simplified function to a mass of complicated data.

His Idea's were pretty good though, I suppose. What was dumb about him? He started with his ideas, then turned to implementing them all over the country. His people skills were awesome, he knew how to motivate people, he included all the world (not just blacks) in his visions of equality, making his ideas more popular and effective with the rest of the country. That sounds pretty smart to me.
I am a balanced 5 (no wing leaning)... and luckily for the world, a relatively healthy one.
jittus rye, your scores may just reflect a evolved personality or maybe you are still finding yourself. Follow your instincts and find which one is most like you, and if you still don't fit just call yourself an original and leave it be. I believe multiple choice tests are inherently biased against true INTP's, who tend to question even the questions.
Remember personality does not equal IQ, it just affects how you use it.
MLK may not have been a genius, but his memory will live on longer than most. He is an example of how determination, spirit, and powerful convictions can go far in the real world. I would be honored to be lumped with such an inspirational human. I am sure no one meant to be insulting to MLK's legacy, since this board has so far proven to be a generally positive environment, right?.
