So which is it?

Canada is Canada.

Canada is a nation in its own right. Canada has its own history, its own culture.

Yes - like the US - Canada has been greatly influence by Britain. How could it not have been?

Even so, like any 2 daughters of the same mother, Canada and the US are quite distinct.

And which of the 2 daughters has turned out better is very much a matter of opinion. The richer daughter is not necessarily the happier daughter, after all.

Yea, Canadians are Canadians. They're definately are not Americans and don't want to be. They are not Brits either. Just....Canadians.

If you're talking about culture / beliefs, I'd say it's more American. If you're talking about demographics, it's still more American but with strong pockets of French. As in Montreal, etc.

mix of all 3 for this English Canadian.

my British side combines unexplainable Victorian/Edwardian traits from my grandparents.

It has retained a closer resemblance to the mother country than it's errant cousins to the south. Nether the less it is still quite distinct from Britain.

Personally I feel more at home in Canada (excluding the french bits) than the USA.

Our media (music, movies, television) is dominated by and large by the US, so there is a tremendous American influence here. On the other hand, we are politically more socialist (or capital L Liberal if you prefer) than the US with heavy emphasis on socialized education, health care and a myriad of other money-grabbing programs that tax the hard workers to give to everyone else.

Your from Alberta right?

Vote Libertarian if the throne speech is rejected (unlikely as it is)....
