I will be in Austin in mid-April. And I will be celebrating a significant birthday milestone.

Anyone want to join me?

Weekend of April 18 - 20.

Austin is billed as the the Live Music Capital of the World (http://www.austintexas.org/music/) and they've already got a few things on the calendar of events (http://do512.com/events/daily/2008/04/18).

As much as I would like to attend, I am going to be teaching a class next semester and I am not sure which day it will be held. If I can break away for a Monday or Tues...or a Thurs and Fri. I would love to come down. It has been years!

Uh, remind me sometime around the vernal equinox.

Excellent, quasi-commitments from a handful here and at least a couple who didn't post in this thread yet. We're off to a good start.

And the rest of you, what's keeping you? I know we're Ps and need to keep our options open and that it is six months away, but remember, this is THE ONLY TIME that I'm going to turn 40. You wouldn't want to miss that!

Besides, what's better than a roomful of INTPs?*

I guess it depends on how many dark lurking spots there are, if there is enough for everyone, I would guess it would be quiet and interesting, and that's pretty cool.

Sao Paulos Brasilian restaraunt off of San Jacinto, it's freakin' good! Plus, the wait staff is super hot, not that I have a chance :sadbanana: , but still! :P

I'm probably going to go an instructor course there on non-electronic use, lie detection and interrogation technique at that time, but I don't know you and I'm not an extrovert either, also I would probably just wind up interrogating you so it would be of no fun for either of us :) so, no.

Limey, you're a pleasure, we'll miss you. You might discover that my real name isn't Ponderous, and that I do frequently use "howdy" in casual conversation.

For those attending, we have two suggestions. Guero's and their Mojitos, and Sao Paulos.

Any other thoughts?

Only 3 months away.

How's this? Folks who are interested meet up at Guero's (http://guerostacobar.com/) on Friday the 18th around 6:00? The music starts at 6:30 so we'll have something to look at if no one has had enough to drink started talking yet.

Then we'll see where things go from there...

For anyone who won't be available until Saturday, we can suggest an alternate meet up location and appropriate time...

Hi-meh, I found mixed reviews for Sao Paulos on the web and also a suggestion that it tends to be upscaled prices. This might not appeal to everyone. Can you tell me if I'm misinformed?

I might go. Then again, I might just say I'm going and change my mind at the last minute :)
I expect nothing less from a P. ;)

Hi-meh

Pondy,
Def misinformed, and I consider myself cheap! I hadn't been to Sao Paulos in a while, but I figured they can't have just flipped their prices to be considered upscale. I just came back from eating there and thought to myself that it must be upscale if you can only afford the McDonald's Dollar Menu. I'd consider Carmelos Italian restaraunt in Austin upscale, Sao Paulo's is def not. The prices are comparable to Chilis or TGIF fridays, really almost any other restaraunt or buffet that you might go to. My plate, which was great, ended up costing me less then 9 dollars after tax. The most expensive plate they have is probably their fish and steak plates, which are over 10 but less than 14. Most of the food costs between 7 and 9 bucks. They also have tex-mex, burgers, vegetarian, and sandwhiches.

You can never be sure if the staff have washed their hands after U4IA in a low end establishment.

9 Jan 2008, 05:54 PM
I will be here if nothing prevents me. I suggest you be there as well.

Ponderous, it may also be worth checking out what the Alamo Drafthouse has going on. I know the drag fairly well (I live on it), so I can also point you to nice little cheap places. Few of them do groups well, though. It's a better small small group lunch place than anything else.

I can also point people in the general direction of hotels. A lot of the ones along Mopac or near the airport may as well be in Dallas. Ew. Go to a bed and breakfast, or optimally, the Austin Motel if you can snag a room there.

I am not familiar with 6th street very well, since I don't drink often. It will be a grand adventure.

For those meeting up on Friday, it's Guero's (http://guerostacobar.com/) around 6:00

Anyone who wants to meet up on Saturday, Sao Paulo's (http://austin.citysearch.com/profile/map/41746184/austin_tx/sao_paulo_s_restaurante.html) Restaurante around 6:30.

It WILL be a great time; I insist, it being my birthday and all.

"I love Austin in the springtime
I love Austin in the fall..."

You could quite possibly count me in for this thing. I'm new to intpcentral, but I'm (not surprisingly) an INTP, and I conveniently live in Austin, and I like Sao Paulo's (at least, I remember going there when it was Sampaio's at that location -- was never sure if they were connected or not or what), and Guero's ain't bad either, and it'd be interesting to meet some fellow INTPs.

Non-recent INTPc'ers: 1-2 Possible

Thanky!

We had a great time last night after getting off to a later start due to traffic. Six INTPcers were there, plus a handful of other friends I brought along.

Very proud of earwax for making the executive decision that his boss would have wanted him to come, and making his way down from Fort Worth.

Though I'm celebrating my birthday, it was a slow evening for me because the SPs I brought with me took me out Thursday night, and well, it took me about 24 hours to recover.

We'll see if the photo bunny can deliver any decent pics.

An open letter to Hi-Meh:

MY FAULT! Hi-Meh, I'm so sorry we left you looking for us two nights in a row!!!

You can see above what happened Friday; I blame my drunken self. I know you got my note too late about the change on Saturday; I blame the P in me.

Excuses won't do, apologies aren't enough. I've known you for 6 years, through two INTP message boards, and I stand you up the first time we're going to meet in person. And I did it two days in a row! I clearly suck as a hostess and have earned reprimand as a human being.

*Hangs head in shame*
*Overcome with ruefulness*
*Wallows in remorse*
*Falls prostrate in contrition*

Is there any way I could EVER make it up to you?

Don't worry too much. I've had stuff like this happen to me enough times that I'm almost getting used to it.

Send me a mailing addy. I was going to give you something Friday, but you know. If a mailing addy seems too fwd, then I'm a very patient person and I can give it to you then; because despite our states grand ballroom of a dancefloor, you do live in Texas as well.

And no, in case you were wondering, I'm not a professional photographer. That's not even a real camera - it was disposable!
